Any tried any Fricition Car Mount for N800?
I am thinking about getting Fricition Car mount for Nokia N800. There are quite few of them in Amazon. Was wondering if anything actually tried them out yet. Not sure if they can handle Nokia N800.
There are 2 main reason I want a Friction mount. First for mobility. I drive regularly (one to work and other on weekends). Would like to easily move them mount and my N800 to them. Another reason is theft prevention. It will easy move it and hide if needed when I go areas were my car is likely to be broken into. Any suggestions any would helpful! |

This is self made mount, it's using velcro instead of friction and it's easy to put in place and remove, however it needs a surface in your car with the right inclination, so it's not suitable for all cars.

never done it. I have one of those rubber clingy things in my Z3 that I put the tablet on when I'm in that car. Daytime visiblity sucks so I end up having to pick it up for quick glances, but at night I can either look at the reflection in the windshield, but often it's bright enough and I have the zoom set high enough that I can see the screen fine.

But that friction mount looks horrible and I wouldn't put it on my dash.

Hey, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder ;), anyway, with the n800 in place you barely see it so it doesn't matter if it is horrible. I prefer it to the ugly suction-cup standard telephone holders.

At a local TA truckstop they had one of the cellphone sticky pads, but in a larger size - about 8 inches by 6 inches. It was about $10 but it does work well for me but I lay the Nokia or other things flat on it (And I don't know about panic stops, just some tight turns and normal driving gave no signs of moving).

Had a sticky pad for my cell. It came off two days ago. Worked well for my bar phone , but it won't work forever. It attracts dust and then it will not stick anymore.
Cheap and ok. But nut great. johenkel |
Re: Any tried any Fricition Car Mount for N800?
I was looking around for a friction mount and a way to modify it to work with the car holder kit supplied with the N810.
I ended up purchasing the Garmin Portable Friction Mount https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/as...0/en/cf-lg.jpg My plan was to try and mount the N810 holder to the vertical plastic piece with some screws through it. After purchasing it and looking at it, I noticed it had 4 exposed bolts heads on the bottom. I was curious so I removed those bolts and it removed the entire plastic piece on the friction mount. And just my luck, those 4 bolt holes line up perfectly with the 4 holes on the included car mount from Nokia. After getting bolts that were a little longer and some nuts to attach to them, this is what I ended up with. http://i39.tinypic.com/2lnak7.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/52hppj.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/14dew6s.jpg Now I just need to grind the bolts a little so they aren't sticking up so high, but that's more aesthetics than anything. The mount works pretty good too (on my car's dash at least). In the past few days I've tried various hard turns in different intersections or roundabouts, haven't noticed the mount sliding yet. |

Radio Shack has a friction mount that has a little velcro strap for holding down cables. If I pull out the kickstand for the n810 and attach it to the velcro strap it stays put.
I've had one panic stop with it in place and the n810 did move and had to be repositioned, but the friction mount didn't. I'm saving the car-mount hardware to make a mount for my forearm to use while geocaching. Yes, I realize how uber-geek it will look. |

Re: Any tried any Fricition Car Mount for N800?
I bought a beanbag-style Bracketron friction car mount on eBay, like this one. I'm satisfied with it. It stays where you put it on the dashboard and it holds my N800 securely but gently. It's easy to get the N800 into and out of it. It can hold the unit horizontally or vertically, and it doesn't press the buttons along the top edge -- in fact, the user still can access them. It might be a problem if you sat very low in the seat as it is hard to tilt the screen downward.
