Problems updating catalogs
Hi
I have done something to my Nokia N800 OS 2008. I can no longer refesh the catalogs. I have deleted all catalogs but still cannot bring them back. The log of the Application Manager says try apt-get update but this fails as there is a locked file. How can I unlock this file so I can update the catalogs? Thank you for your help. John :( |
Re: Problems updating catalogs
You need to be root to use apt-get update.

Re: Problems updating catalogs
I think that if you deleted the catalogs, there is nothing to update. You have to get them again. I think that if you used the built-in backup program, it can go get the ones you had. Otherwise, go here, install a few that you remember, and see where that leaves you. Good luck!

Hi
Thanks for replying. I seem to have 3 Catalogs installed. Nokia Update, FBreader, Mapper. But still I get "Downloading 1 KB " . How can I become ROOT so I can run apt-get update. Thanks |
Re: Problems updating catalogs
sudo gainroot
you may have to install the gainroot pkg. |

Re: Problems updating catalogs
Hi All
Easyroot installed. sudo apt-gwt update seems to work. But still get "downloading 1 KB" when I try to refresh the applications list from the application manager menu. Thanks for all your help John |

Re: Problems updating catalogs
I'm having the same problems.
Suddenly my N800 started doing this. Reflashed and still getting this problem. apt-get isn't working too. I'm looking for a good explanation, and not some random guesses. Thanks. |
Re: Problems updating catalogs
I have the same problem unless I disable the Claws catalogue.

(Probably the Claws catalogue which mfortner pointed out is acting up today, though I'm just guessing, as there's always some repo that can't be found or gives some error which makes the App Man slow and unhappy.) |
Re: Problems updating catalogs
I might want to, but that's not "a good explanation"...
