I've got Fluxbox running now. If people are interested, I can post a screenshot and a how-to.

A warning: the latest round of updates seems to have messed up the X server. "the program xyz received an X Window System Error" is the error many, but not all X apps give (mrxvt is fine, epiphany is not).

Ideas?

Latest round of updates also makes OpenOffice impossible to install. Bit of a mess.

I'll have to look at it, and see if it can be remapped to something I've got... I had thought about the camera (In = left, Out = right, Out and flipped = middle), but hadn't got to do anything yet.

Benson, did you have any luck? What about doing what VNC does, use the "+" HW key for right click?

Actually, I've been messing with Debian surprisingly (and disappointingly) little lately. Haven't done anything, but my plan was (given something that works already) to abandon the camera notion and use some keys or other... VNC mappings would certainly be workable, and nicely consistent, but I hadn't made any decisions yet.

Hi and bravo for you work John,

So i would like to know :
-how to install easyli a kernel with rotation support ? (i 've gone to http://sse2.net/rotate/ but after ?)
-Or Is there a way to use virtual screen ? (i don't see any xorg.conf)
Thank's

Re: New Debian (beta3) for the N8x0 w/ XFCE

OK... this may help the WEP crowd; I don't use WEP here, but I was experiencing more-or-less the same troubles as Cap'n Fish. University registers MACs, but there's no encryption or authentication. (Well, strange MACs get redirected to the registration page, and that's got authentication, of course...)

Solution: after copying OS2008 firmware (which I'm not sure was necessary; it worked manually muddling through stuff before that, just not with ifupdown), I wound up putting this stanza in:
Code:

iface wlan0 inet dhcp
        pre-up ifconfig wlan0 hw ether 00:DE:AD:BE:EF:00 up || true
        wireless-essid school-ssid

By bringing the network up first, it's then able to change the SSID. I had been getting failure to associate, caused by a:
Code:

Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; No such device.

I guess your failures were silent, so it may not be the same, but perhaps it will help.
