I'm wondering if I should just try to get back an earlier version. But the rub seems to be that there are multiple versions in multiple places :( Quote:
Question: what's the difference in streaming the highlights and the live games? They both coming at the ITs at the same bit rate? Or from different sources? Or... ? Quote:

Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Great... now that mplayer version I have gets me "unable to uninstall mplayer. Some application packages are needed by other applications."
This Linux stuff's not easy, is it. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Just to give my two cents, I don't think the problem is with mplayer. Now I have paid (the five day deal so far) for the premium video service and I get the highlights, the condensed games and audio with no problem. I haven't tinkered with Mplayer too much but I think the issue is a different codec in the 'live' games.
Something about the way they 'package' the feeds is different. When I noticed that there was a 'condensed game' feed and hvancengi put it into the view, I had no trouble seeing them, so I think it's the way that mlb.com handles them that's the trouble, not the bitrate nor any settings on myplayer (or even a different version) BW desole de la neige:( |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
OK... let me ask another way... .
For those people who can get a nice, clear archive or highlight feed, what version of mplayer are you using? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I am running mplayer rc1 .27 for the n8x0 and it works for me.
If I had to guess (which is all I really can do) the mlb live video probably uses a more recent and/or more complex version of the wmv9 codec. Whatever it is, the source of the issue is most likely for the sake of copy protection. As the link from k-dog here said at the bottom, the issue seems to be linked to a buggy codec. The rc2 version of mplayer may or may not fix this. It is suposed to have better wmv9 support, but I don't know if it solves this specific issue. I'd have to do more looking to confim it, and I don't know that I really could without sorting out the maemo specific port. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
So. They're working on Silverlight for Linux and the MLB.
Great (I guess). Um. How long and hard is it to port over to whatever the hell runs on the N8xx's? Really. I have no idea about these things. Also - anyone really tempted to keep the premium package after the initial 5 days? :D |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I'm not sure how much help silverlight will be. My understanding of silverlight is that it is very much like flash, but with MS catches. At least on the mlb page I think that silverlight serves up a version of windows media player to decode the same stream that we are working with. If the version of silverlight is optimized for the low cpu speed of the n8x0, and for the arm architecture, then it may very well help us. Otherwise, we'll just run into the same problem I've got now that I have mplayer rc2 installed.
I now get the video stream without all of the static and messy blocks. Instead I get an aweful frame rate, and sky rocketed cpu usage (significantly worse than the top plays). I tweaked the settings of mplayer significantly, and the best I got was about a frame every 3 to 5 seconds. I really like having the full package. Oddly, my favorite use is the condensed games. I guess mostly cause I can watch them on the tablet without issue. Over the weekend I used the Mosaic app on my laptop to watch games, but that app has issue running itself. I've become just as frustrated with silverlight apps as I am with most flash apps - they run like crud. Cpu and memory spikes, and unpredictable slow downs. But I do like being able to watch my games. I've only had a night or two to really experiment, thanks to Father's day weekend and a major design job being due tomorow morning. I will definatly play with it this weekend though. I have to admit, you may have hooked my Mom more than me, she loved being able to watch the game on Saturday. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I still can't even watch the game highlights without a lot of fuzz.
I've go the 1.0cr2-maemo.27.n8x0 version of mplayer. Strangely, this issue has sealed my decision to get a cheap ultraportable to be able to handle tasks like these (I'm waiting to see how the Gigabyte M912 does when it comes out. I'd love to get a tablet-like laptop with a touchscreen so I could lay it on my lap properly and not have to angle the keyboard and screen). Not, you know, like mlbviewer for the N8x0's should be stopped or anything :) |

I'm still hoping that I'll figure something out with this mplayer issue. If I really felt strongly about it, I could probably set up my home server to transcode the video on the fly, but I'm not exactly sure how I'd do it, and it definatly wouldn't help any one else... My mom has a full blown tablet PC (HP something or other, I could check my amazon history to find it). She really likes it, but the touch screen is no where as easy or sensitive as the n810's. It has seems to stick, like my handspring visor used to when I had a screen protector on it. The HP's screen is much better than that 7 year old handspring though ;) |

2. Now... that's weird. emelFM2 is showing my /home/user/.mplayer/config file and all it has is "# Write your default config options here!" and yet the application is playing (fuzzily) the live game feeds. Now that's really confusing. When I originally set up the configuration (.4? .5?) I submitted my login info. But why it's not showing up in the config file is beyond me. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I'm still having problems with the config file showing "# Write your default config optoins here!" and not showing either my signin or password (or preferred audio feed).
For example: I'm trying to listen to the post-game Mariners/Braves show on the Seattle feed (I'm assuming it's KOMO). I need to hear it. I *n*e*e*d* to hear what a post-win show is like since it's been so freakin' long... . However, even if I open the config file and replace the "#..." with "audio_follow=sea" or add "audio_follow=sea" below the "#..." and reboot, I'm not getting the Seattle feed. And, while I'm on a whine, the I still can't get any videos to be clear. Any. All of them are pixilated. Finally... I'm not understanding how I even get access to the audio/video feeds if my password and login aren't in the config file... . But I'd be happy with at least getting the audio feed from the Seattle side, if someone could help me out here. 'Cause there's hope and I want to feed off it for at least the next 20 hours before the Mariners face the Braves again :) |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
OK, you've got two seperate issue here, it sounds like.
First: You're in the wrong config file. You want /home/user/.mlb/config not /home/user/.mplayer/config. The Latter is for mplayer itself, and hosts all of the default player settings for when you use mplayer to open a video or audio file. So if you go to the former file name, you should be able to add the audio_follow=sea and have it work. You'll also see your other info stored there (since thats why you can get the audio). Second: I didn't know that people couldn't open the config dialog in this iteration. In previous iterations, it would hang for me if I opened it twice per launch, but I fixed that error and the config works fine for me. So what I need you to do is open mlbviewer, select the configure option of the menu, and when it doesn't load, quit. Then find the log file ("/home/user/.mlb/outputlog.txt") and either send it to me, or post the text after "setup_cfg" or anything else that isn't either a dictionary of the default settings or a 2 to 3 word line that looks like a function call. That error should help me figure out whats wrong for you. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Oh... ah... that was embarrassing. Should have figured that one :-P
OK. Another question/curiousity. I'm watching the Mariners/Braves game that started at 4. it's now 4:17, I've just reopened the application and the game is still greyed out (though it's showing it's suppose to start at 4PM). How does that work? Fascinatin', fascinatin'... . |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
From what I can tell, that is the fault of the way mlb.com changes over between "pregame" status and "in progress" status. As a result, the program thinks that the game is in limbo, much like a game that's hours away. I considered enabling the buttons according to the actual time, but decided I might run into complications with time zones. I am also not sure that I can even get the stream information at that point to let you play the audio.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
You know how much I like this app? I'm listening to the post-show autopsy (that was some one-game winning streak, huh?) and I've got the ol' Labtec speakers hooked up and I'm just tickled pink about the whole thing. Figures the best part of the season may just be the ability to listen to KOMO radio for just this part :)
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Just had to chime in to THANK you for your hard work creating this app. MLB on my n800, what a day!
Please keep us posted on how to improve the video image should you learn anything, until then it's old school radio baseball. thanks |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Anyone got this up and running on Diablo ?
I´m not going to upgrade till i know if my favorite app is working 100%. ;) Thnx again hvacengi |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I can now confirm that mlbviewer works in diablo. I just flashed, installed most of my junk (including mplayer) and then installed right off of page one of this thread. Game recap worked fine, as did live audio. Let me know if you have any issues.
I was hoping to release a more streamlined version this week, but with Diablo I think I'll wait until I can check for python compatibility issues. And I'm spending more time than I should debuging some code on my arduino randomly filling the RAM. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Um... it's a microcontroller with limited memory (1kB) that I can use for input and output in various ways.
Thats the easy answer, trust me. All I really meant was that I am trying to solve a problem that is not easily found, and it takes way too long. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Ah. OK.
Will this help the Mariners in any way, shape or form?? 'Cause, you know, they really need any help they can get at this point... . |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Anyone having a login problem? Tonight I was listening to the game on my Windows PC, then decided to switch to the MLBViewer. I have done this before, where I close the window on Windows and start up MLBViewer, and tonight for some reason, I get and error starting the Audio from the NIT. I tried logging into mlb.com and logging out, but that didn't fix anything. Here's the portion of the log:
I Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants gamebutton_clicked Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants 7:15 PM 2008/07/01/chnmlb-sfnmlb-1 top plays: on_cg_audio_clicked {u'fid': u'a12', u'url': u'http://web.servicebureau.net/conf/meta?i=1113001535&c=1234&m=wa Error at 2008-07-01 20:08:37.841033 Login was unsuccessful. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I actually just noticed it myself. I'm sure that it was working this weekend. I'll have to check out the normal mlb viewer's pae and see if they've come up with anything. Could just be a change in way mlb authenticates (hopefully not specifically because of mlbviewer...). I'll take a look when I finish up the dbus-switchboard gui (tonight or tomorrow, depending).
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Looks like mlbviewer on Linux has this problem too - I looked at the message board on linuxquestions.org for mlb.tv.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Well, thats good and bad...
It means that the very smart people over there will probably fix it. But it also means I'll have to re-code a little bit, because they changed the condensed game portion of the library. I'll try to keep tabs on what's going on on linuxquestions.org and get my version updated as soon as they get it figured out. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Hmmmmm, i thought it wasn´t working because i signed up for the 5 day free trial and that then screwed up some kind of setting/login.
I just keep getting "error fetching URL". But i am able to watch the recaps  |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I can report that it was working yesterday and is working for me now.
By working, please understand that I have subscribed to the premium service at mlb.com. In spite of the subscription, the live feed from mlb.com has always been garbled (no fault to hvacengi... it seems to be a codec issue) but the condensed game, recap and replays have all worked without a major glitch since I started paying. @ blade2002: Perhaps you got more than the five day trial. mlb.com automagically 'renewed' my subscription after the five days. I know, it's not worth it for the actual amount of time I spend watching, but I love playing with it so I'll keep the subscription for a month or two...at least till the Astros are in the cellar.:p Edit: Well, I have tinkered a bit more and do get the occasional "Error Fetching URL" but for the most part they work. My broswing this morning did raise a question. Some of the games for yesterday, for example, have both a reacp and a condensed game (CWS 4, CLE 3) but no replays. Some have a recap and replays but no condensed game (NYM 7, STL 4) and some just have the recap (DET 4, MIN 6). I have a suspicion that this is just the way the feed is packaged by mlb.com, but wonder if other users are experiencing the same variances. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I blame everything on MLB.tv.
I have *never* seen such a badly run website or major commercial enterprise so completely subservient to Microsoft. It is pathetic. Just wanted to whine a bit about that :-) |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
For those brave souls with an editor, here's the fix to get you by until we get a new official build:
edit /usr/lib/mlbviewer_gui/MLBviewer/mlbtv.py go to line 414 add ", re.I" as a new argument to the function call. Here's what the line looks like when done: pattern = re.compile(r'Welcome to your personal mlb.com account.', re.I) It's Python, so don't mess up the leading indentation. Save and close mlbtv.py Start MLBViewer and you should be good to go. I am. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Works like a charm. Thnx a million :D :D :D
BTW i was not a brave soul, just plain old desperate !! |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Sorry every one for not getting back on this very quickly, last week was pure chaos at work and at home, and when this issue came up I was in the middle of trying to get threading working so that the window didn't become unresponsive for any significant amount of time. That ended up being the big delay, and I still don't have it working. It is better... but not right.*
So I've uploaded 2 new files. Because of the issue we had with the base mlbviewer code, I decided to make that its own package that I can update without needing to revert my development code to a working copy (my full version is almost always broken within a day or release thanks to tinkering). So now you'll need to download python-mlbviewer, and the mlbviewer_gui package. I am also including a copy of the mlbviewer lib in the folder "OldMLBviewer" so if a mlbviewer update breaks the program, you can rename that folder and run that version. More when I get home from work, but I wanted this up for any one who wants it. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
It's probably just my ineptness, but I downloaded the new files and I still get the "problem fetching url" when I try to access mlb audio.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Got your message, looks like when I added the better error handling, I skiped the audio section. What you can do is open the log file (/home/user/.mlb/outputlog.txt) and look for "Error at [time]" followed by a line of detail. If it says its a login error, the problem is most likely with your login. If it's something else, post that detail line here and I'll see what I can find when I get home.
I'll update the packages tonight when I get off work, to include the proper error handling. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Thanks for reply. I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm a complete novice and don't know how to get into the bowels of my n810 to check login as you advised, but I'm pretty sure login data is ok since it is correctly entered in the configuration set up.
In a way, I'm glad I have this current problem because it gives me a chance to thank you for making it possible for us to listen to the games on our n810 when not at our desktops. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
So, I was gonna upload a deb today. But then I was running through a test of all the features and found that highlights and such are no longer playing for me. Can any one else confirm this (I seem to have the problem in both new and old versions), and if so tell me what version of mplayer your using?
Once I figure out this issue I'll release the new file with an updated gui. jldcon - the quickest way for our purposes would be to run mlbviewer, try to open a stream, and then exit right after the error. Open xterm, and enter the command "cat /home/user/.mlb/outputlog.txt" whitch will print the contents of the file. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I've got your latest deb from 7/9 and everything is working fine. I'm able to watch the highlights.
MPlayer 1.0rc1-maemo.27.n8x0 I did notice that the Game Viewer box now stays up when playing the highlights, so the pause (spacebar) is going to the Game Viewer and not mplayer, causing the video to start over. But I rarely pause, hardly worth spending time fixing. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
hvacengi: I just fired up my mlb viewer and it is working. I can watch highlights, recaps and condensed games. I'm a subscriber to mlb.com so this may have something to do with it.
My Mplayer version: MPlayer 1.0rc1-maemo.29.n8x0 Looks like I have ver 0.0.7 of mlb viewer. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I logged on to mlbviewer, selected audio of tofay's tiger game, got the error fetching url, closed mlbviewer, opened osso-xterm and entered command iin your post and got "not found".
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
So... my video error had nothing to do with mlbviewer, mlb.com, or mplayer. I had the custom android kernel installed which apparently messes with mplayer (I found that no video worked at all). So since my bug was all in my head, I have a release ready and available on my garage page. This package should also help jldcon, as it will now show the full error detail in the system note popup. (Have you tried logging in on the website and then specificly pressing logout?)
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=725 I also changed the window settings, the game viewer is no longer is a dialog window, just the same main window. Which should help with the problem the ehovorka pointed out (I had noticed it my self as well, but setting the modal value to false didn't fix it so I just eliminated the conflict). Thanks to all of you for checking out the mplayer thing, sorry it delayed the release. Change log: "Changed game viewer to show in the main window instead of a dialog box. Mirrored error system note changes from video in the last release to the audio in this release. Added calendar browse button (open folder icon) to select date. Added refresh button to refresh current day's listtings." |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
The new screen is great, and I was able to see a longer error message: "error fetching URL:Login was unsuccessful. I then logged in on mlb site and logged out. Could the problem be that I have only an audio subscription - I only listen - never watch the games? When I go to my Dell PC and login at mlb site I get the audio feed.
