Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Does anyone with Diablo know if that version of flash supports MLB? I have chinook and that version of flash definitely does not work with the new mlb player. Anyone know if Adobe will release a new NIT version of flash?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
MLB tv on diablo does not appear to work either. I was able to launch the audio however, though not in the browser window (it launched the media player).
I see little chance that we will see an update that will allow this to work. There may be an update, but every time that the tablets have received an updated version of Flash, it has been a few revisions behind. Many sites check for the most recent version of Flash even if they don't need the most recent functionality. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I just need audio. Guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade to diablo. mlbviewer is not working on tonight's game.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
How isn't it working for you right now?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Error fetching URL: No stream available for selected game.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
crud, it isn't working on mine either. They must have changed something today, or there may be something funky with that game, cause I can play the replay of the LAD SFG game without issue. I'll see if the replay runs fine for the Braves game after it is done and try to ID what the issue is.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Error fetching URL: No stream available for selected game. (all games ! )
ditto here  |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I get the same error. I listened to the angel-padre game on saturday night but starting yesterday I started getting that error. I hope it can be fixed, it works on my computer.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I was able to tweak the mlbtv.py file to get the alternate audio working, but my High School Spanish no longer exists in my brain. Since everything else has moved to flash, the old code just isn't going to work. I got this from the mlbviewer svn - requirements for 2009. There is someone actively trying to get the base code working, but I'm not sure how much will work on the NIT.
1 REQUIREMENTS FOR MLBVIEWER 2009 SEASON 2 3 Quite a bit has changed for the 2009 season. mlbviewer is making a best 4 attempt to support the 2009 season but should be considered a very unstable 5 and incomplete solution for 2009 support. Additionally, while every attempt is 6 being made to preserve support for previous seasons, some of the new code may 7 have a destabilizing effect on existing code. 8 9 Expect bugs and don't expect many of last year's features to be working 10 with the early SVN revisions. Subscribe to the Linuxquestions.org thread for 11 tips and updates. 12 13 To get going for the 2009 season, you will need the following packages: 14 15 REQUIRED: 16 17 PyXML - http://pyxml.sourceforge.net/topics/download.html 18 19 suds - https://fedorahosted.org/suds/ 20 21 rtmpdump - http://sourceforge.net/projects/rtmpdump/ 22 23 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: 24 25 ffmpeg - http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/ 26 27 x264 - http://www.videolan.org/developers/x264.html 28 29 faad - http://www.audiocoding.com/faad2.html 30 31 You will likely need to compile the latest version of these from source as 32 many distributions include outdated versions. To test whether you will need 33 to recompile these, you can download a Flash sample clip (12MB) from here: 34 35 http://www.eds.org/~straycat/2009-03...t-usaint-1.mp4 36 37 You may also need to rebuild mplayer from latest source to be sure of 38 compatibility. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I just found that change log myself... I tried just copying the newer files anyways the lib checks for the requirements and then exits if they aren't present.
I'm going to look into getting the needed packages up and running, but I cannot make any promises. I program in python specifically to avoid the compilation headache that comes with so many other languages in python. I'll try to get an environment set up today/tomorrow to test compile rtmpdump (suds and pyxml look to both be strictly python, though I haven't tried to import them yet). From there though... Oh, and with the holiday week/weekend time will already be scarce (I do get to go to Milwaukee for Saturday's game in the middle of all of it though). I would not necessarily expect the fix quickly (unless some one else can compile rtmpdump and get it running before I can). |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I tried getting the latest mlbviewer running on my Linux setup, but could not get it to work. No point in me trying to make the NIT's mlbview_gui work if I can't get the Linux version working. At this point I think I'm going to try to install Diablo and see if that flash player will work, or at least launch the media player correctly.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I've upgraded to Diablo. It's still looking for a newer version of flash. How did you get it to launch in the media player?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Looks like MLB has a mobile service, for iPhones, Blackberrys and Windows Mobile
http://mlb.mlb.com/mobile/audio.jsp?c_id=mlb I tried this link: http://m.mlb.com/gda/index.jsp I logged in and clicked on a game. Nothing happened, I clicked the "nothing happens in 30 seconds" link and I logged in again. I then clicked a game link and the NIT's media player opened and I was listening to baseball!! The only problem is, I can no longer listen to games on the NIT. I got one chance to listen. Your PC game day audio subscription isn't valid for mobile access. I now get a message asking me to subscribe. You must subscribe to a separate mobile package for another 2.49 a month. The people running MLB are very greedy. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
That stinks. So if you do pay the extra $17.43 it will work on the NIT?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I've canceled my PC Gameday Audio subscription and subscribed to the Windows Mobile Gameday Audio package. We'll see if I get a refund from my original annual payment. I canceled by phone and subscribed through the web site. I don't need archived games (which you don't get with the mobile package) There was some buzz I read where the mobile package had archived games last year.
Bookmark this link: http://m.mlb.com/gda/index.jsp It's not the best solution. I have to log in twice to listen. Go to this link, click on the game you want, log in when prompted. (The first time may be free, but after that it will prompt you to subscribe for $2.49/month) Click on the "if nothing happens in 30 seconds" link. Log in again. The NIT's media player opens and plays the game. You must remember to log out if switching games, because otherwise you'll be locked out - logged in to too many locations, or some such error. The log out link is not in an obvious location. Go to any page other than the one you see after starting the audio stream. Click on "Account Settings". Click Logout. Then go back to the link above and pick a new game. Maybe you don't really need to do this between games, but I had to call MLB support to unlock my account, and don't feel like testing it again. Also, I couldn't find any page that directly links to the URL listed above, so bookmark it. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Thanks for all of the follow up ehovorka, I finally have 2 computers running linux (openSUSE) with scratchbox installed so I can start trying to mess with the mlbviewer stuff. I did get rtmpdump to compile for the armel processor but haven't had a chance to try things out. It looks like dafcat has the audio working on the computer for *most* games though some appear to glitch for him.
MLB really complicated things by changing the interface again. Really, for the greater linux community it works better, because it runs on the major desktop distros, but it still doesn't run on the less common distros. At this point the guy who writes mlbviewer seems content to try to get his app working, but when it fails to launch the flash player directly. Since we have a version of flash 10, I wish that they would let us use the full functionality. The mobile link seems like a compromise, but a decent one. If I were you I'd look to see if I could bookmark the logout link, so that you could just go to a bookmark for it. Also, could you post the address of one of your games here, I might be able to launch the browser directly to the mobile site, or adapt the app to find those streams instead. Summary: I have a lot to look at this weekend... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
This weekend I'm going to take a stab at having your front end work with a different backend: using the mlb mobile feeds instead of the flash feeds. The mobile streams are from an mms url, so I should be able to parse that out and launch mplayer (already tried it by hand on a PC and it works). There's a bunch of info available in xml files (not only game times, but in game stats) and the mobile web pages are small and easy to parse.
But, it's supposed to be nice outside this weekend in Seattle, so we'll see how motivated I am to work on a computer :-) Plus the Cubs are on ESPN Sunday, so there goes another 3-4 hours. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Looking forward for the MLBViewer working on my N810 . . . love listening as I house manage.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I've got an update to mlbviewer_gui.py and mlbtv.py that works with Windows Mobile Gameday Audio subscriptions. I'm so excited, I'm using my NIT again to listen to baseball!
I have added a config file entry "mobile=1" to indicate the mobile package. I am currently listening to the Mariners, but I've been switching between games without problems. I set my audio_player=mplayer. I'm not sure how we want to handle the code management here. My changes to mlbviewer_gui.py and mlbtv.py should be safe to merge with the main code base. I added code to read 'mobile' from the config file and if it is missing, I let the old code run. I should probably contact daftcat and see about getting mlbtv.py merged in the main mlbviewer tree. hvacengi owns mlbviewer_gui, so he can decide if he wants to keep these changes. I have put the two files and instructions for installing them on one of my websites (there is no .deb installer, you have to do it manually). http://www.bramblesoft.com Remember, the regular Gameday Audio package will not work with this package. You must subscribe to the Windows Mobile Gameday Audio package for $2.49/month. I canceled my regular audio subscriptoin and now just have the Mobile package. NOTE: You have to subscribe to the Windows Mobile package through your browser, not through mlbviewer. NOTE: The Windows Mobile Audio package only has live games. No archived games, no condensed games, no video, no highlights. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Thanks ehovorka for your info :)
I am still quietly hoping that hvacengi can get mlbviewer working again :D But it is nice to know that a backup solution is here  Thanks to both of you guys for your efforts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I put a new copy of mlbtv.py on bramblesoft.com. Looks like MLB removes the game start time when there is a rain out.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
just saw your update. I will grab it and include it. I'll try to modify my settings dialog box to allow choosing mobile, so if I ever get regular audio working we can swap.
ehovorka, I can give you upload permission and/or svn acess (which requires me to actually update the svn...). You're contributing plenty and I don't feel any need to keep this project to myself. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Hopefully MLB is done making changes so I won't have to fix much. I can work with whatever method you find easiest. I have a garage account (same user name). I am going to Chicago for a few days, so won't be participating here much.
At some point, it would be nice to add the game stats (at least score and inning). I found the XML files that have all that info and it would be pretty easy to add. Just a thought. There's a boat load of stats available, but I like the idea of keeping it simple. Using the NIT's browser, m.mlb.com is a much faster way (than the full www.mlb.com) to see the scores, standings, stats. No flash, just text. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I guess I should try to make a .deb for ease of install. It seemed simple to me, just copy the two files to their correct locations and add a line to the config. I have to wait to see how much time I have this week to put a .deb together for this. I agree it would be nice.
One thing to try is to open xterm and run: python /usr/lib//mlbviewer_gui/mlbviewer_gui.py In the xterm window you will see any errors that happen. Maybe you are missing the XML lib. I don't remember installing it, so either I did install it and just forgot or something else installed it. Running the python command above will give us a clue. Let me know what errors you see. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Like I said it seemed like I had done it right. I couldn't download the python file on your website, it would just download as an htm file. So I tried copy and paste but the tablet kept freezing up so I did it on my pc. Then I copied and overwrote the two python files. Anyway here's the error I get:
~ $ /usr/lib/mlbviewer_gui/mlbviewer_gui.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/mlbviewer_gui/mlbviewer_gui.py", line 2, in <module> from MLBviewer import MLBSchedule File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/MLBviewer/__init__.py", line 14, in <module> from mlbtv import MLBSchedule ImportError: cannot import name MLBSchedule ~ $ Thanks for your help. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I think I finally am going to be able to make the time tonight to update the package for the mobile changes and test it. I was going to just package it when I got to work this morning, but forgot my memory card at home, so I'll package it when I get home and upload it. The upload will be untested by me however, until games are on tonight.
The advantage that I see in mlbviewer vs. the mobile site is ease. I wrote the gui, so I'm a little biased, but it puts the information I need/want in an easy to navigate location. The one downside being that the first load time is a little longer than I like. Theoretically, if the other features get fixed for the desktop version, we should still be able to watch the highlights, and condensed games, and such. I'm going to be very curious to see if there is a video performance difference with the new media streams (don't know if they are still wmv). Oh yeah, the update today will probably include a means of displaying team icons next to the game. I have it implemented on my copy, but I still haven't decided how to get around the possible issues with distributing mlb images. I'll probably have to finally include an "about" dialog that references them. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Thanks, again, hvaceng, for working on this. If mlb could only leave this alone one year! I miss being able to get the audio streams on my N810.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
The update is live, and hopefully should work. I tested it by removing mlbviewer_gui, and python-mlbviewer, and removing the data directory "/home/user/.mlb". If you run into issues, the first thing I would try is removing that directory.
The only working form of media is the mobile audio (which I think is actually streaming better than the gameday audio last year, less feedback and fewer skips). This is unfortunately a few steps back from last year, but a step forward from opening day. Speaking of steps forward: you can now enable team icon's to be displayed to the left of the game listing. I find it very helpful in quickly finding the teams, as I had a tendency of scrolling up and down 10 times before I found the right team; I'm down to scrolling up and down 3 times now :-) . To do this does require "wget" to be installed. I don't remember where I got it, I'll look around and post a link. Not having "wget" shouldn't mess up the core program too much. You might error out with the first download, but the download should not be triggered when you re-open mlbviewer (I activate the download script if logos are enabled, and if "/home/user/.mlb/images/" doesn't exist). PLEASE RESTART THE APPLICATION IF YOU ENABLE ICONS ON AN ALREADY CONFIGURED SYSTEM. Otherwise, it will probably act funny until the UI is reloaded and configured to support the icons. Version 0.1.1-2 has this issue resolved. (speaking of which, apparently I made up a deb with a new version 0.1.1-1 and never did anything with it, so the release jumps). |

Sweet! Love the logos! I didn't get all of them though. Missing Texas, SD, Colo and LAA.
To install wget: login as root apt-get install wget |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Nevermind. All logos show after I restarted again.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Yeah, I just found it in the extras repository. I can add it as a dependency and it should automatically download when you install mlbviewer_gui. But that doesn't help for those who don't want the icons (they seem to cause some tearing issues when scrolling).
Glad they're working for you, let me know if you see anything that isn't working right, well other than the obvious "everything." I'll update the SVN tomorrow after I put SVN on my windows 7 box. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
logout is not working. I'm looking at why right now,
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
It looks to be intermittent to me, I get the login error on the jays-royals game, but not on the dodgers-giants, and I am sure that I tried switching between games earlier today and It worked. I'll give it another shot tomorrow when games restart so that I have more than two games to try swapping between.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
on_b_play_stop_clicked doesn't have the call to logout and self.game_stream is missing. I added self.game_stream and assigned it on all calls to GameStream. Now I think I'm in MLB login jail, where you can't login too many times.
Code:
def on_b_play_stop_clicked(self, widget):Code:
self.game_stream = g = GameStream(stream, username, password,Code:
self.game_stream = None |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
OK, I'll try to replicate the trick that they used in the base lib. From what I could tell in the original mlbviewer, I think that the logout function is called after getting the stream, so that you don't run into this issue. I'll look closer and double check to see if I read it right. If so I should be able to make it work.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
OK, I've updated mlbtv to logout after getting the media url. It loaded the dodgers-giants game for me after the change, but with only one game still accessible I couldn't test switching games. It does allow you to load the stream after having logged out though, which is how the original mlbviewer works, so hopefully we won't have an issue.
If you're account is locked out, hopefully that should clear the system by tomorrow, otherwise I think I've resolved the same issue in the past by logging in on mlb.com and then logging back out (definitely last season though, so it might not work). Let me know if you still have the same issue. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
I downloaded the latest updates but when I try to start mlbviewer on n810 I get "unable to create directory /.mlb". Any ideas? thanks

Re: [ANNOUNCE] mlbviewer_gui for maemo (Beta)
Are you missing the HOME environment variable? Or is it set to '/'? It should be '/home/user'
