[Announcement]: Mobile Tablets Blog
Hello all,
I have started a blog entitled Mobile Tablets. The focus of this blog is to document my experiences in real world tabletting. I'm working on my first feature, related to my newly started WiMAX experiment. I have a plan to interview a few ITT members about their tablet usage, with the aim of showing the tablet community and newbies in particular 'what can be done with these things'. The inspiration for this blog comes from the 'personal accounts' portion of our wiki. I have applied to have the blog aggregated on Planet Maemo. Hopefully they deem it worthy enough! http://mobiletablets.blogspot.com __________________ Mobile Tablets Blog: http://mobiletablets.blogspot.com |

Part 2 of my WiMAX experiment is now posted on my blog. It relates to the few teething problems I had on the first day, as well as a few pictures of the modem/router setup.
I still have not heard from Planet Maemo, so if you wish, you can add the RSS feed from the blog directly for now. Post any comments, if you wish, on the blog itself. http://mobiletablets.blogspot.com |
Re: [Announcement]: Mobile Tablets Blog
Is there any chance that the Bell/Rogers WiMax service will work with the N810WE?
Regarding your blog, I find the column is too narrow. It only fills a small vertical strip of my screen. |
Re: [Announcement]: Mobile Tablets Blog
Naah, your screen is too big. :)

Re: [Announcement]: Mobile Tablets Blog
Part 3 of my WiMAX Experiment is now on my blog. I gave some details on the connection speed that I get through the WiMAX modem. The numbers may not appear impressive, and they aren't compared to DSL/Cable, but for many sites, it's just fine.

I'll be interested to see how your VoIP tests go, but given the latency numbers that you've been getting I'm not optimistic.
We have to remember that Bell/Rogers don't want their network to be good for VoIP. Perhaps the Wimax network that Sprint is running in Hamilton would be better for VoIP? |
Re: [Announcement]: Mobile Tablets Blog
Isn't that one run by Primus? They are said to have one trial in Toronto also, but I couldn't find further details.

I don't know about that; I think we just need to wait till a hacker who knows WiMAX, or at least very knowledgable about networking in general, has enough cash to buy one of the Nokia beta-testers (and himself, if he's not Canadian) a round-trip ticket to Canada. ;)
It's not clear to me that the N810W is not compatible (in some limited, definitely non-roaming way) with the existing Bell/Rogers network. It might be, it might not. With no N810Ws for Canucks to test with, nobody'll know... As for that latency and VoIP, it's not killer bad, as long as the 1 second spikes are sufficiently rare; it looks about like a transatlantic connection. |
