I just installed in my ubuntu laptop. Not seem to be too heavy to port to NIT. But I don't know.

Kate Alhola ported Google Gadgets to Maemo. Currently the port is in alpha stage though.

Why is the required space for installation so large?

Well, its quite a big package because it also contains a lot of software. Also, it depends on Python, Qt, WebKit, and a lot more.

for a long time my n800 has only 20M free memory. i had to remove gnumerics and a couple of applications to install the latest OS upgrade. This application is out of reach for me. I am desesperated looking for the n900... or any other device with more memory and processing power....

Usually boot from SD is faster if you use the faster kernel.

The class of the memory card also matters. (I always opt for class 6).

Re: Google Gadgets open-sourced for Linux

I have google-gadgets installed on my n810 right now... has only crashed my desktop once so far, (i had to kill he process after resetting my desktop, as the interface button in the status bar disappeared) but seems interesting. when running, and not visible, seems to use about 49megs memory. still testing

oh yeah, after installing, remember to disable repos not needed, (diablo-sdk, maemo extras-devel, etc.)
