You haven't answered what is your mplayer version.
From Xterminal
mplayer --version
prints your version. I have MPlayer 1.0rc1-maemo.27.n8x0

Try to install that version or newer. Mplayer .27 plays
RT much better (less stutter) than Media Player.

There are also many mplayer command line options. Try
to increase your cache (300 is default for RT?)

mplayer -cache 512 -framedrop mms://wms.visionip.tv/RT

Best of Luck or eBay :D!

Re: Stuttery video streaming

The mplayer version is the same as you describe as I downloaded it fresh.

I typed the command and it seemed to be a whole lot better. Some jerkyness but no longer pausing every short while.

Two further questions therefore, a) why is the drop down menu option in mplayer unavailable when I run the stream this way? and b) how can I create a shortcut to select with my finger or stylus to save typing this command in each time?

Don't forget one of the most important options: -quiet

Re: Stuttery video streaming

Well that seems to work too.

I tried with RTR Planeta (mms://live.rfn.ru/rtr-planeta_128) and it worked with that one as well. However does anyone know how I can turn these command line entries into a shortcut to simply select?

Re: Stuttery video streaming

You can use Personal Menu and set individual items with each stream.

There are at least 11 different ways to do it, which one suit you? http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=20997, thread #9

The stream for Russia Today seems to have changed and I cannot see how to make this work anymore. Can anyone help?

Also the TV5 stream from Latvia only plays the intro. Can anyone help me?

Russia Today seems to play. You had problems with stutter, try this
(increase cache, -quiet suppresses some console output which
reduces processor load)

mplayer -quiet -cache 800 -framedrop mms://wms.visionip.tv/RT

TV5 is mms://stream.grafton.lv/live_tv5
With my Windows XP Media player it plays fine (not just intro).

With Internet Tablet it plays only the intro because Internet
Tablet doesn't support internal mms playlist format (I don't remember
where I heard this: mms stream is proprietary format and
Linux programmers don't know how to interpret that stream
fully) so it plays just the first stream entry, in this case, the intro.

Re: Stuttery video streaming

Similar question. I'm trying to play The Colbert Report using the stream on Hulu.com. It plays in Adobe Flash. It doesn't seem I can download it. So I get a very choppy, frame-dropping, out-of-synch audio/video stream. Is there a way for this to play through MPlayer or anything else to improve the experience? (It plays much more smoothly on my laptop using the same connection. On the laptop, there are periods where the stream just stops and the buffer loads, whereas on the N800 it just stutters along without taking these buffering time-outs.) Thanks in advance.

(Been gone awhile, so I'm sort of rusty. Too shy under these circumstances to include my old signature with the advice to Newbies. :o )
