Mobile OS to do PIM work.
I noticed several people asking about Glideos and if it would work on Tablets for PIM. The mobile version should work but the main version is flash and its a huge flash site so it wouldn't work. I have been looking into other WebOSes and found EyeOS its open source and you run it on your webserver. I set a copy of it up on my webserver address is http://www.maemobox.org/os I was wondering if someone can test it on the tablet to see if it would work it works fine on my desktop at work but dont have cell phone service or network to test on my Tablet. I was almost wondering if you could run this locally on the tablet I think there is a webserver for the tablet but I'm not sure if there is php for the tablet and that is what this site uses. Only reason I was wondering about the on tablet running of it is so it might run faster, but to keep everything in sync you would have to use a web version of it.

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
i get on my n800 syntax error missing after property id then type error xget element by if(father)has no properties so no joy here actually after all those errors it did open...course i accidentally closed it ...reattempting...works ...sorta ok...very jumbled nothing is clickable...

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
According to there site it should work. This is what there site had to say about it
Nokia n800 - Flawless Nokia 770 - Flawless with Minimo/Mozilla Web Browser, Opera browser is not working |
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
well i have alot of css and browser tweaks...so that might be why..
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
Might be I'm going to try it when I get home. I could be my host also.

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
Don't know if lots of folks are hitting your server right now or not, but even on desktop, server response time is huge. On my n810, at the load screen, I get SyntaxError: missing } after property list... still testing.

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
Also, it does not seem to be configured to resize to my screen... even at 80%, the default screen does not show on my n810, and no scrollbars. Two more property errors once I get into the main screen, but icons show left and right. eyedocs opens when I click on new document, and is draggable. Toolbar at top of screen shows maybe 10% of the bottom of the toolbar, but is clickable, and briefly shows the submenus. Overall, a very promising (for those of us online all the time) approach to doing some work. I'll have to look at this more.
thanks for your efforts!! |
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
ok you guys try http://www.tabletos.org its running on another of my servers
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
Its open source so I was thinking we might be able to play around with it and get it to fit better on tablets.

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
I can figure it out just wish I could get my tablet ot work on my work wireless network so I could test it.

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
Switched themes, and now find that the desktop is unresponsive once I am logged in. Cannot move icons, only got a single unspecified syntax error. will switch themes back from desktop and try again. After reloading theme to original, everything loads fine on my n810!! Looks great!

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
still using maemobox.org, have not tried the new server yet.
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
says there is a mobile version that works on your cell phone also
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
on tabletos.org the top bar of icons is 3/4 hidden off screen, even if i zoom in or out but seems to be more responsive than the one at maemobox.org
when trying to setup a new account on maemobox.org the verify password box doesn't come up when accessing on my n810. otherwise an interesting start |
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
I think I am going to have to make a templete for the tablets to use with it.
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
to fix the problem with missing icons at top of screen:
use desktop to change theme (there are only 2 themes) log in with n8x0 change back to original theme with desktop log in with n8x0 again.... Icons came up fine after I did this. |
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
I found a version of this that runs on your computer that doens't require webserver. It might be an idea if it will run on tablet.

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
wonder if anyone could use this with google gears...
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
Can it sync its contacts down to the tablet's default contacts app?
Or sync its contacts and calendar with Thunderbird/Lightning/Sunbird on my desktop? If it can, I'm all for it. Especially if it can also export some form of calendar/todo/tasks information to something I can used directly on my tablet (doesn't need to be read-write, just something I can read when I'm not connected, so I know what my tasks and appointments are for the day). |
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
well later after evertone has gone to bed ill try installing google gears and give it a shot...
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
I know it will sync with your desktop I don't know if you can get it to sync tablet or not

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
ok I have added alot more themes you have to have root access to the web os to install themes and apps but If we end up doing something like this i will see if we can't change that. I am still kinda interested in getting this to run off line either using something like google gears or just running it from your local system all you need is php and webserver which we have both if I'm not mistaken.
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
never got to tinker with google gears last night...i think overall this would be a better option than running a palm emulator for pim...and it could be accessed from any computer to upload anything...
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
yeah if we keep it running online you can sync your desktok computer to this and be good to go. I would also like to look into an offline version for people who don't have internet most of the time. Maybe a better theme also. BTW joepagiii what browser are you using on your tablet I had a couple of errors using default one.

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
default...with bunyos or benson css...one off the b guys
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
ok might just be my n810 its been action screwy last few days. I think to get the full potental of this I need to get a fully dedicated server to run it on so I can install open office on it then you can open office and open office files using it.
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
let me know what i can try on my end...if anything
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
just feel free to test anything out if you want to install some programs I'll PM you the root password

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
found out its really a copy of Linux that uses eyeos for there desktop I tried it on my desktop this morning. Best way for running it locally might be using web server not sure. Here is the link. http://www.eyeos-apps.org/content/sh...?content=70449

Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
Ok for anyone testing this I just installed well just about every app they have for this web os. Including a program that caches the images to your computer it made it alot faster on my work computer maybe it will help the tablet also.
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
Ok my host killed my webos but I have moved it to a host that doens't mind it. Its fast now anyways same address just need to reregister
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
I got his to run locally on my n810 but it runs real slow not real sure if it because of the php/web server or if its the n810 its self could even be the browser. I noticed on load applet the load on the system looks maxed out but I can't see any processes that are high % usage
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
same here...thats why i sorta gave up...i have a palm for pim...
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
I think its the php server I tried to access it from my desktop running on n810 and it worked just worked real slow
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
Those browser OS things are pretty JavaScript-heavy. It'll eat up your CPU if you only have the microb that came with OS2008.
|
Re: Mobile OS to do PIM work.
I tried fennic or what ever its called it seemed alittle better
