Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
Yer, we have one with the OS2008. osso-xterm, I felt like compiling another one so there.
Update 14/11/08: http://maemo.org/static/c/c08b0de4b2...reenshot01.png http://maemo.org/static/d/da442d42b2...reenshot03.png multi-tabbed GTK+2 terminal emulator application ROXTerm is a terminal emulator intended to provide similar features to gnome-terminal, based on the same VTE library, but with a smaller footprint and quicker start-up time. It achieves this by not using the GNOME libraries and by using a separate applet to provide the configuration GUI. It can be used as a ROX application, as the name implies, or in any other X environment. I hildonised this and shoved this into Extras (mainly for the sake of the deblet installer :P) : http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/roxterm/ |
Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
From the screenie, it looks like it's just a straight compile without even including the hildon headers :/
|
Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
Well, that is what I do.
All I'm gonna do is sort out the button maps tommorow. The only thing unhildonised in that screenshot is the menus showing which I'm not really bothered about because the gtk way is more convienent for me (although no denying that would save space which is always good in a term app),and I don't plan on hildonising that. |

Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
I think the packages in my scratchbox are newer :/
There is a newer libglade in maemo extras, just update it to the one from there and reinstall this again. |
Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
If I upgrade libglade2-0, osso-software-version will be removed. Is this a problem? I've read that this will prevent future software upgrade.
|
Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
i think that somewhere on your device, there is a file that contains the osso-software-version data that you might be abele to backup. too bad i forgot ware the file was :(.

Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
Just modify /var/lib/dpkg/status (or something like that) with a text editor, and change the dependency of osso-software-version on libglade2 to >= instead of =...
|
Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
Hey, anyone willing to post up the libglade2-0 (>= 1:2.6.1) .deb file.
I've search high and low for the past 3 hours trying to find this slippery little bugger. The best I can find online is version 1:2.4.0 Thanks! |
Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
It would be much better to have it in standard in diablo. Is there any chance?

Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
Under Configuration Manager, I added "CP 437" as a new character encoding.
However, going back to read what it says in Xterm, since that's what I'm using to get to Roxterm, I get this following error... GLIB WARNING ** default - Unable to convert characters from UTF-8 to CP 437. I've tried using lowercase "cp 437" and I receive the same error. Is it not possible to add a new character encoding or am I doing something wrong on this? Someone please write a response. :) Thanks! |
Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
Bump. I hildonised it.

Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
Just intalled Roxterm. I guess I was expecting a Hyperterminal replacement. Can I use to upload bin files to a device?

Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
Hi! I'm using version 1.13.5 and there is little trouble: when I push button that switches running programs, garbage simbols outputs, ~ or 'F5' when typing in Vim.
Thanks |

It didn't behave like this initially so something along the way as reconfigured the system. I should reboot to see if that fixes the problem but I hate doing that... For me, it's not a big deal as I tend to stay in roxterm the whole time (running emacs). |
Re: Roxterm: Another terminal emulator.
On a different note, I switched to roxterm from osso-xterm primarily because it takes up less screen space (the line with "Tab Esc ..." that osso-xterm displays). On the N810, there is still the line at the bottom of the screen that appears whenever the slider keyboard is used, the line that displays the current state (abc, Abc, Fn, etc.). Can this be disabled in any way? I would like to have the full screen devoted to roxterm.
Thanks, eric |
