It's the same CPU-wise, and most internals. The most important differences: (OK, really all the differences that I can remember...)

Additions:
  • GPS
  • Slide-out keyboard
  • Light sensor (to control backlight)

Removals:
  • FM Radio

Changes (for better):
  • Screen is now transflective, otherwise similar.
  • Smaller size

Changes (for worse):
  • D-pad is now on slide, thus inaccessible when closed.
  • Internal SD slot is now a 2GB chip, soldered on the board.
  • External SD slot is now a miniSD.
  • Camera is now fixed, forward-facing.

Changes (unclear):
  • Speakers are side-facing; probably better stereo separation, worse directionality.
  • USB port went from Mini-B to Micro-B

Edit: Added radio and size... Thanks, geneven!

The 810 is a smidgen smaller, and the 800 has an fm radio.

Man, I want to buy another N800. None on the shelves. Too late. I really don't want an 810. Neil

I just got one from the Buy an Sell. In 90 min, I cloned the useless NIB into something just like the one I am using, the cloning saved all the work in collecting repo, settings, config...OMG, thank you Fanoush, Milhouse for the cloning script.

Well, the message: pay attention to the Buy and Sell, there is usually one unload per day with a going price like $150 + any niceties.

good to see you back, Neil

Thanks Bun for the kind words.

I had some good luck. I found a lightly used N800 in the local Seattle craigslist.org. This was just a lot easier than it would have been to fix the various things that need repair on my old N800.

So, I got it for $150. I'm thinking that sort of seems high for an obsolete electonic devise. These things seem to be really holding their value.

After a reflash and an evening spent putting my faves on it I'm back in business.

Hardware problems? Seems you are able to take care of software problems. Want to tell us your story? Poke a hole on the screen instead of a buggy program :)?

Ya Bun,

Hardware problems. Several months ago I booted my tablet to the floor while I was charging it by tripping on the power cord.

The only damage that was immediately apparent was that the kick stand had broken. I was really missing the kickstand, but of course I could get along without it.

Then gradually over time the power jack failed until I couldn't charge my tablet while in use or just charge a battery using the devise at all. Fortunately I had one of those desk top chargers and was getting by with using that.

The other thing going on is that my battery assortment kind of sucks. I either have old Nokia brand batteries or those cheap ebay batteries that don't hold a charge very long. Fortunately this lightly used Tablet I picked up has a decent Nokia battery in it.

Anyway, I dropped my Tablet and ultimately that ended up costing me. I saw that you got a good deal in the Buy and Sell section. I think you have to just about be camping out in that forum to be fast enough to buy from there.
