Re: mCalendar
I've been trying mCalendar over the past few days, and updated to 0.5.4.1 this morning.
I've unchecked all the options on the "Google Prefs" page, i.e.: _ No alarm on google popup reminder _ Use google colors _ Auto sync and entered my google username / password. The "Google Calendar" page lists my gmail ID and has the Sync and Default boxes active. (How do the settings on the "Google Prefs" and "Google Calendar" pages interact - I don't understand the distinction?) Launching mCalendar from the desktop causes it to crash after a few minutes, whether sync-ing or not. However I have much more success launching it from an SSH terminal. I ssh into my internet tablet (as root), do an 'su - user' to become the normal non-root user, and then run: mcalendar.launch After this I can select "Launch Google Sync" (from the GUI menu). Trace messages appear on the terminal. There seem to be a lot of error messages listed and unexpected responses from the Google server, but the sync carries on. I have a very large Google calendar (several thousand entries, inherited from Outlook and many of them dating back to by days of using Agenda on my Psion Series 3!) - and the sync has never yet run to completion. My latest attempt started at about 10:30 this morning, and has nw been running for over 3 hours. mCalendar is slowly populating itself! I have good hopes for mCalendar - it looks very promising and will suit my calendaring use very well. This is: o Appointments / birthdays / etc maintained using a mixture of Outlook on my laptop and the Calendar app in my Nokia E71 - the Nokia tools sync these two very well; o Outlook contents are pushed to Google Calendar every few hours by Google Calendar Sync; o mCalendar can then sync with Google Calendar; (I'm basically maintaining a read-only view of my appointments on Google Calendar and mCalendar) Simon. |
Re: mCalendar
Updated to 5.5.2 using the app manager. I have not been able to synch and it crashes a great deal. I uninstalled it and went back to the 4.5 build on Khertan.net. The app then crashed before fully loading...during the mcalendar loading message. Rebooting helped.

Re: mCalendar
hmm, homecalendar is showing a manually entered appointment as being one hour off...

Re: mCalendar
Hello, I am using mCalendar (extra devel) on my N810 since a long time. Very useful and great software, thanks for that Khertan!
However, I have the last version of extra devel, mCalendar works well, but cannot display homecalendar, it cannot be launched. How I can see some traces (for mCalendar, I launch it from terminal but I do not know how to get trace for the applet)? Thanks. |
Re: mCalendar
Ok, with the last version in devel (1.0.0-3), home calendar has started correctly...
Do not know what is the difference that cause this behaviour :) |
Re: mCalendar
I just started using mCalendar today and I have to say I am very impressed.
Khertan, congratulations! You did an excellent job in creating the first calendar app really worthy of a Nokia Tablet. It is actually quite superior to the GPE Calendar and Todos, which combined with GPE Summary have been two of the most important app in my tablet. The user interface is great and the home applets are amazing and highly customizable which is something I am VERY grateful for. Not many developers pay attention to all the details you have included in your apps. Actually I am a couple of bugfixes away of switching completely to your apps, however there are some problems I would like to mention, although I'm pretty sure it's not the first time they have been indicated in this thread. I am running version 5.5 on a N800 with Diablo (5.2008.43-7). Homecalendar applet is version 1.0.0-1 The most serious: mCalendar crashes VERY often. I have not been able to run it for more than 5 minutes at the most. Even if I'm offline, not syncing, just idle, it simply crashes. Another curious thing is that the Home applet shows all my events 6 hours in the future (!!) I thought I had some problem in my tablet setup but everything was just fine. Some events are shown in a different day (i.e. an event on thursday is shown on friday) in the day/week/ month view, although if you edit the event it shows the correct information. Events that span several days or weeks only appear once in the week/month view. Particularly in the weekly view, only the starting day is shown during all the weeks the event lasts (i.e if an event last for 3 weeks, say on Week 15, starting on a saturday, seeing weeks 16 and 17 will only show the event on saturdays with the starting date of week 15). In the monthly view only the start date is shown. There are some other problems regarding syncing with multiple Google calendars. Right now you can only sync with your default calendar, but I would not consider this problem a showstopper right now. I loved the app and respectfully submit this comments as a way to make a great app better and more usable. I am really looking forward to use it as my standard calendar app, but for the time being unfortunately it is not stable enough. Hope you can read this. Regards Angel B Mexico City |
Re: mCalendar
seems there is a post install script issue with the 0.5.7-2 package.

Thanks for the comment. Would there be a way to work around this? maybe installing a new version? Or just to exercise the virtue of patience and wait until it is fixed? ;) Regards Angelb |

my guess is to just wait it out...

Re: mCalendar
hm.. after yesterdays update I get an Permission denied when I try to launch mcalender.launch from the commandline..
/usr/lib/mcalendar/mcalendar_ui.py: Permission denied anyone else got that one to work? |
Re: mCalendar
Just upgraded to homecalendar 1.0.0-3...
Anyone notice that cpu / memory usage are abnormally high? And/Or that the tablet reboots randomly? (reboots seem to be gone after turning homecalendar off) Otherwise, the latest version is VERY nice. I really like the ability to edit the applet settings.:) FWIW: after the upgrade to 0.5.9 (mCalendar) I had all kinds of problems syncing with Google. I finally resolved 90% of the errors by purging "old" entries directly from GCal in an effort to lessen the amount of entries mCalendar had to deal with: SUCCESS! :D @Khertan: Keep up the great work! (any word on mContacts?) |
Re: mCalendar
lately i had noticed a whole lot of python processes running now and then that made no sense. today i finally figured it out. its mcalendar_sync.py...
funny thing is that i have unchecked auto sync in the google prefs tab... |
Re: mCalendar
Maybe I overread that here, but I think I have a problem not mentioned yet:
I finally got mcalendar to sync with google (had to deinstall ermine/calendar and mcalendar for that and reinstall mcalendar), but after syncing nothing appeared in mcalendar. Might this be due to my many gcals? How do I choose the calendar synced by mcal? Or would it sync all (I read sth. to the contrary in this thread)? Thanks for any helpful reply. |
Re: mCalendar
Mine syncs fine but I no longer have any "All Day" events listed anywhere. I also no longer see the date in Home Calendars display. Am I missing something?
|
Re: mCalendar
I am glad to report that my synchronization now miracolously works.
However, now I've got that problem, too, that recurring events are not synced. Moreover I am wondering why, if I sink my work calendar (which I did not choose, by the way), entries I made in mCalendar are entered into my Google Calendar as my private calendar after syncing. Are there any solutions to that issue? By now I am even pondering the idea of rsyncing a sunbird-calendar file just so I can use my Google Calendar on my N810. You see: I am desperate for answers to these issues. |
Re: mCalendar
Hey, I seem to be having some trouble with mcalendar. I just installed it and it worked fine at first. But the next day when I opened the application it just froze. I got the message saying that mcalendar was not responding and I was prompted to close it. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling with no success. It just freezes up right away now. Anyone having or had the same issue? Any suggestions?

Re: mCalendar
verumgero,
I've found that uninstalling via Application Manager does not remove the mcalendar data files. You may need to do this manually. I'm not a very experienced hand at Linux, but I was able to do this using Midnight Commander. I usually use emelfm2, but the icons are pretty cryptic in emelfm2 and I couldn't figure out how to do a search for "mcalendar*.*" in emelfm2. Also, when I tried the "find" command in X-Terminal, I kept getting the "too many files/folders opened error". In Midnight Commander (aka MC), I was able to find the mcalendar pref file and database file (after running find "mcalendar" and then stumbling around a bit) and delete them. After that, a reinstallation of mcalendar worked fine. As an aside, I had to uninstall Midnight Commander because my n810 was rebooting shortly after anytime I connected to the internet. I had installed the mileage app and Midori at the same time as MC, so I'm not sure if those were problems too. Before I uninstalled MC, I ran the hometools applet to see what happened to cause the reboots. I noticed that, whenever I connected wirelessly, my Total Memory would drop quickly from about 70000 k to 17000 k before the tablet rebooted. I've not had this problem since I uninstalled MC and the mileage app. (I had previously uninstalled Midori by itself, but still had the problem until I also uninstalled mileage and Midnight Commander). |
Re: mCalendar
As mentioned above, uninstalling leaves your database. It needs to be removed manualy. From xterm that is:
rm ./.mPIM/mcalendar.db That will remove all apointments and user preferences. I'm using the one in http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ diablo | free non-free mCalendar 0.4.5 The first sync only gets to 60%, then finally completed after 15 min. Future sync attemps [edit: Now work after deleting my database] |
Re: mCalendar
I'm running 0.5.9. It gets my list of calendars, but doesn't fetch any appointments, or upload any. The log just shows:
Connected to google GCal list refreshed Try to connect... Connected to google Sync finished I just tried removing the database, but that made no difference. |

Silly question...Have you selected (check box) your GCal in the mCalendar Preferences? Then Sync. IIRC from when I installed / deleted db / re-Synced... the first sync only retrieves the GCal list. Subsequent Syncs(after selecting the Cal) pull in your Cal entries. @All What is the difference between selecting the GCal, Marking it Default, or Checking both? Thanks |

Re: mCalendar: Reboot problem
mcalendar worked fine for me initially, but I've now had to remove it from my n810. The problem is that, after I sync it to my Google calendar, mcalendar causes my tablet to spike in cpu/memory usage and then, eventually, to reboot.
When I first started sync-ing mcalendar, I made the mistake of trying to sync it with six preset Google calendars (US holidays, China holidays, Singapore holidays, etc.). The sync took all night (mcalendar had to sync each event individually) and finished with an error. Soon afterwards, I noticed that my tablet would start freezing soon after I connected to any wireless signal. I put the hometools applet to use and found that my average cpu load spiked from < 1.0 to > 20.0 soon after any Wifi connection. Memory also dropped from about 70000 k to < 20000 k in that same time period before the tablet rebooted itself. (At first I blamed Midori, Midnight Commander or the mileage app because this problem happened soon after I installed these apps, but I now know that mcalendar was the main cause). I used the "top" and "ps" commands in Terminal to identify the process that spiked after connecting to the internet. After I uninstalled mcalendar (and manually uninstalled the database file and prefs), I reinstalled mcalendar and everything seemed fine again. However, after another sync with Google calendar (this time successful with only three holiday calendars synced), I started having the same problem again. I am thinking of submitting this to Bugzilla. According to tso, the specific culprit is mcalendar_sync.python. Like tso, Autosync was unchecked in my mcalendar preferences. |
Re: mCalendar
what i did to fix that was this:
apt-get install alarmtool open up /var/lib/alarmd/alarm_queue.xml in some way to that it can be read find the cookie code for each entry of mcalendar_sync.python, and use alarmtool -r to remove said entry from alarmd. |
Re: mCalendar
Ugh, just had to dig out all entries of mcalendar_sync.py again...
And the only thing i did was run mcalendar for a couple of seconds, with the result that i had multiple sync processes going, eating its way thru ram and maxing out the cpu. And it continued after it forced the tablet to reboot... Either i'm extreamly unlucky, or there is some kind of interaction issue between mclaendar and python-launcher... |
Re: mCalendar
Happens to me too and made my N800 unuseable..
Got so bad I have had to uninstall mCalendar until the problem is solved. Pity as it was very usefull. |
Re: mCalendar
I'm using the latest version on mCalendar and I love the look and feel of how it displays events...but;
a) I can't find any option anywhere to create an all-day event, b) The actual creation of a calendar event is a bit awkward (how the start time is defaulted to current time, how you pick the start- and end-time, etc), c) People are mentioning that they show the events through an applet on the home screen - are you guys using the mgCal applet? Is this application still in development? I'm basically looking for an easy-to-use calendar that can sync to google-calendar and an applet to show upcoming events on the home-screen :) Thanks! |

:( Has anyone heard from Khertan recently? :(
His website seems to not have changed / been updated in while either.... |
Re: mCalendar
I've installed this, but the month button and the week button look like a list, just like the day button. The web page showed a grid view for week and month, does that actually exist?

Make sure that in the Preference settings you got 'use grid for week' and 'use grid for month' selected :) |

Anyway, for the version: I'm pretty sure I installed it directly from the Applications Manager on the tablet. If you check there, what version do you see? EDIT: Or I installed it from the link at the bottom of this page: http://khertan.net/software_info.php?soft=mCalendar |

The only answer I can think of is that the later version is available in a repository that you haven't added to Applications Manager yet. I have these catalogs: Nokia Catalog Nokia Catalog (3rd party software) Nokia System Software Updates Maemo Extras Chinook Extras Extras-Devel (<-- this MAY be the one...) Kawseq Consulting Qole |
Re: mCalendar
be careful w/ Extras-Devel. disable it after you've installed the one specific app you're concerned w/.

Re: mCalendar

I went browsing through the Extras-Devel for unstable apps and found the version your using. Next question, can I just install the .deb files directly, rather than the whole catalog? lm2 suggests that catalog can be dangerous. If so, do I install both the areml.deb and the i386.deb or just one of them? Thanks! |
