For each one you want to see on the Speed Contact menu, just tick the checkbox on the right.

Or did I misunderstand your problem?

Brad.

I agree with hedgecore, the contacts should at least have an option to hide offline contacts in the chat application.

Yes, I'd say they are working on this, it seems to obvious not too, and too tedious to check "online contacts" in the contacts menu. My first impression of Gtalk integration is that it is definately the way to go, coolest feature as of yet. Call quality for me is always top notch and now I am hoping they introduce Gtalk client for Linux PC's, so I am always "callable".

Thanks

I am using jabber accounts and have no problems with voip 770<->770 (router, firewall).
Quality is of course not like skype but ok (A server near me could raise quality a bit I guess).
Googletalk is still beta, so they might have problems with their Server.

Btw. I would not use gmail accounts, but I know, I am here alone with that opinion...;-)

duey: I didn't even play with the contacts app yet. It's easy to sort the online ones and initiate a chat/call from there.

you're right. anyone on gtalk whos online appears in the contacts app.

770 to 770 google talk worked

I just tried a 770 to 770 Google Talk session and it worked. The call was a bit choppy, but not bad considering this is Beta and the call was from Berlin to Toronto. (so internet latency and lag may have played an issue)

I had tried previously with someone on a dial-up connection and it did not work. Perhaps it will not initiate the call if both parties do not have a decent amount of bandwidth?

Just a thought...

Im getting frustrated...how come google talk and chat work for some people and not other people (including me). I've tried to connect to different access point even. Still no joy.

Quick question who has it working. When you are in chat or talk, and you click "start chat" or "select contact" does it tell you by the contact name if that person is online or not? Or does it only tell you when you are in "contacts" only? And I see you can only have 4 "speed contacts". It would be cool if you can have more than 4 and be able to arrange it the way you want and it's scrollable. And on top of that, it will have a status by the name if they are online or not.

sandstorm 2006-06-12 20:25

Yes, it tells you the persons online status on the "Select Contacts" page.

Let me know if you would like me to test it with you, as I have had it work with at least one other person.

Take Care

To view the online status for a contact you have to obtain authorisation from the contact - there's a menu option to send a request for authorisation. People who have imported pre-existing contacts may have imported the "authorised" attribute and so it's already working for them, but contacts created "new" in the 770 will require authorisation before your 770 can determine the online status of each contact.

One "bug" I've found is that the 770 sometimes disconnects from the Jabber/Google network (possibly due to the auto-away/10-minute timeout function) and once this has happened it's not possible to reconnect to Jabber/Google until I disconnect and reconnect the WLAN.
