you only have to be online to get the map the first time.

Nice, very nice but it could be even better if:

1) If there were a show/hide feature for the GPS info pane.
2) You integrated this with the POI functionality in one binary.

would it be feesible to store the entire US in all zoom levels , i guess just cities to a memory card? if so what size card would be right for such a task? thanks

I know that you used sqlite for the POI. Don't you think will be easier (for the user) if you keep the poi coordinates in a folder structure just like the map tiles? you could make just a dumb text file (or xml) for each POI... easy to read, easy to edit... and will not require the sqlite to be installed.

I really like the gpsinfo, thanks.

That was the main thing I was wanting to add to his work, I love it when I can think of something and it is done :)

This version is better (some fixes; yes, next day, next patch).

something I've seen on handheld GPS units is an "accuracy" reading, where the longer you sit still and the more sats you are connected to the better your accuracy. for instance, when you first power on and have only 3 sats, you might only have 100Meter accuracy.

There is a lot of parameters: PDOP (dilution of precision), horizontal dilution of precision, vertical dilution of precision, magnetic variation etc. IMHO not for maemo-mapper, but for dedicated app like xgps.

When i remove the gargabe and upload the file to my 770 it works great. There seems to be a parsing error in your web service.

Thanks.

how did you remove the "garbage" & upload the "new" route? do you have to that every time? thanks -Derrick

thomashp 2006-09-11 04:19

the garbage appears to be gone. It works now.

Right button and save link as... (firefox) or simple tap on link (n770) and save binary.

Only in sources, recompling apps. How about "normal" maemo-mapper? This message still exists?

I didn't start seeing the message until I loaded your version on with the GPS Info. I'll load the normal maemo-mapper back on, maybe by concidence something went bad in my gps receiver.

Ok tried the new version same problem, but I think I know what is causing the message. On the way home from work I was using your previous version but notice I wasn't getting any SNR information, everything else was working fine. Then about half way home, my gps seem to start providing SNR information and the message went away.

By the way, the new version crashes within a minute or two everytime, not sure why.

Does your version support the swapping between two different URLs for maps and satellite imagery like the Armin version? I'd like to try it out but can't go without the satellite data, especially since Google just added high quality imagery for my neck of the woods...

Very strange. Way to/from my work - ap. one hour stable work. When did this happen? Did you have fix?

No, sorry.

Luna 2006-09-12 17:40

Mine is pretty stable with your build.

I still have the same problem of losing BT connection when sitting still after a period time, but that happens in the official build. The cool thing about having the magnet inside the leather case is I can close it and open it up really fast and the GPS is back in action. I think I might have an idea on this after studying the code. My guess is that the GPS is trying to save battery life by detecting change.

Yes, I'm wondering if it has to do with the version of sqlite I'm using. It seems the GPE PIM apps I'm using loads its own version of sqlite which is different then the version on your web page. I'm used to troubleshooting apps on PC based linux systems, but it's tough to do with the 770 since there doesn't seem to be any log files that get created to explain the crash.

On a side note though, I was still get the NEMA error with you're lastest version which I suspect has to do with the fact my GPS receiver doesn't send SNR data right away.

maxilogan 2006-09-13 21:28

What about wired GPS

see here: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=3052

is there any hope to let an USB gps receiver work? (standing all that you can see on the other thread)

Hi cjackiewicz,

I find your mod very usefull but why don't you use the gpe sqllite version ? Is there something special about sqllite3 that you need ?
Thanks
Fred

Not something special. Maemo-mapper working fine with sqlite v.2 (need only some changes in syntax). Why? Because v3 is better (IMHO).

Where does MM store its preferences?

I restarted MM after a while I wasn't using it, since I have scheduled a trip next Sunday, but couldn't manage to let it download the maps.

I must specify that I'm not using a GPS but only using the maps.

Uri is the usual found here, connection is there, furthermore it will show "Downloading maps" with the progress bar but at least, when it disappears, the detail is always the same (of course I'm not viewing the deepest zoom but more or less halfway)

Already tried:
- changing the connection (restarted)
- changing the "Zoom step" option
- reinstalling MM

Particularly regarding the last test, I saw that the options (no GPS, URI etc.) are the same as before and not the default ones, so I tried to check for a .maemo_mapper or so into /home/user/ dir in order to remove it and reinstall from scratch but couldn't find it.

Do anyone know where do MM store its preference files?

Thanks, Maxilogan

cjackiewicz 2006-09-15 12:24

In gconf.

Check google URI, because it changed.

Looks like '=' is missing between 'zoom' and '%d'. Currently I'm using 'v=w2.21'

My mistake in copying it, it was there. I tried changing 2.11 in 2.21 and check as soon as I have connection :)

I'm not able open or download routes with my Maemo Mapper (v1.1). I always get the 'error parsing gpx file'. It seems to me that gpx loading is working for everybody else now, except me... :(
I've tried every tip I've found from this forum, but nothing helps.(I've also tried with third party gpx files) So actually I'm pretty sure the file content is OK, there must be some other problem, but what could it be????

pehaa: PM me a sample GPX file that fails to load on your Nokia 770, and I'll see if I can tell you why it fails, and/or I'll try to load it on my Nokia 770.

Hi,

if I enter any 2 places into the form at www.gnuite.com/cgi-bin/gpx.cgi, the result contains a strange line at the end - -the very last trkpt line goes like this:

<trkpt lat="47.24001" lon="8.82999"><desc>openInfoWindow(\047end\047)\04 2>18.Arrive at Rapperswil, SwitzerlandThese directions are for planning purposes only. You may find that construction projects, traffic, or other events may cause road conditions to differ from the map results.Map data ©2006 TeleAtlas ', panelStyle: '', printheader: 'StartZurich, SwitzerlandEndRapperswil, SwitzerlandTravel33.0 km (about 34 mins)'},document.getElementById("state"));}//]]>.</desc></trkpt>
</trkseg>
</trk>

If I filter that ... "garbage" out it works fine.

Hope that helps... -- please see attachment for the complete file...

Cheers,
Wolf

any plans to make the description (desc) work for the poi table? I made a small windows app to import places from google earth to the poi database and is importing the description too.

If anyone wants to use the app, I will make it available to download (src + exe) later today.
