was that extra "garbage" recently added? Routes were working fine 2 days ago and i noticed yesterday i was getting parsing errors. Is there a way for the server to filter that out for us?
I'm curious why there isn't an "onboard" routing generator. Mapopolis on my old palm did it with hardware specs way way way below that of the N770. cheers |

The GPX Driving Directions web service is working again (i.e. not spewing invalid XML). Let me know if you have any further issues with the service.
Now is a good time to mention that, although I would like to roll the functionality of the web service into Maemo Mapper itself, there is a downside: future breakage caused when Google changes their HTML output would require me to release a new version of Maemo Mapper, instead of me just changing the web service. This would be less desirable, in my opinion. So I might keep the web service available for use by Maemo Mapper even after its functionality gets moved into Maemo Mapper, to give people a "fallback" that would allow them to revert to using the web service rather than upgrade their version of Maemo Mapper. |
thank you!
wonderful app. works great again.
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but what would be nice: - a small box in the lower corner stating distance left until final desintation. - zoom presets, For example to go from level 4 to level 0 rather than all the subsequent zoom levels. - a "reverse directions" checkbox to download the way back. - a way to make a great cup of coffee...hehe I'm sure people like me love this app so much that they would have no problems upgrading to a newer version. btw, all those patches I see in the forum, like to add other gps data info onscreen, are they patches to the source or are they more like plugins? Plugins would be really cool. |
gnuite,
have you seen this app? http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=33068 can it generate usefull files for maemo mapper? I think it was made for te PSP GPS app but maybe it can still be useful to us. I especially like the POI db generation. And maybe a way to use hybrid maps. |
Sound! I need Sound!
Is there any intelligence on when Flite will be available for OS2006?
Mapper on a car journey is only an option at the moment when I have a passenger. Voice prompts would be soooo nice! I am a regular visitor to Moimart's site to see whether there is any progress, but I am begining to think that it may be quicker doing it myself. I assume the source is available. Any idea how much code is involved? I assume that all the text to sound code will not need tweaking, it will just be the OS/Hardware interworking? Jon |
Hey
Great application. Would it be possible to include an option to display some debug information ? I.e. show your lat/long/elevation/speed/no. of satellites My Holux GPSlim device is a bit wonky sometimes, it would be handy to know if it's some problem with the device itself or it's just a lack of satellites. Cheers |

Is it possible to add to The GPX Driving Directions web service selection of miles and km:s. I have been editing my routes manually to make that conversion, but the selection of miles/km is allready awailable in maemo mapper and I Ithink (I do not know), that you can get km out of google too!

When querying google maps, you can add a parameter for locale &hl=<locale> . &hl=uk will give you english directions and km, &hl=de german directions, &hl=fr french directions .... |
Uri
hello
the news URI?? |
I have two questions for you:
- first: how could I manage to download and install the POI patch? I download it but the donwload manager does not give a savename because the file has no extension. Give one as I like, adding .armel.deb at the end, but I'm not able to install. When the file is selected through the application manager and the "Install" window appears, I have a 0 kb dimension, tough it is some 100kbs on the card. - second: I read somewhere on these threads (I'd bet it was on this one but couldn't find it  ) that someone was planning to release a software to automatically download them from the Google Maps page once specified the type. Did I dream about it or is it real? Or do we have to input each POI manually? This is ok for *personal* POIs, but would prefer an automatic procedure for, i.e., restaurants, gasoline, etc. Last but not least: in a short time I'll receive a Belkin bluetooth GPS with a Sirf II chipset. Is there anyone using something similar? Is it working with Maemo Mapper? Bye, Omar |

I have been having the same problems that a lot of people talk about, and the '/etc/sudoers' trick didn't help me either. I have been reading that there is a '/dev/rfcomm' trick out there, but I can't find any info
Can anyone help? |

you have to modify the /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf file (root access needed). Replace the values in the file with your own values (your gps MAC address) and change the value of BIND to yes. In maemo-mapper, in the place where the MAC address should be, put /dev/rfcomm0 reboot and enjoy -ioan |
I kept looking after my post this morning, and I found a Bluetooth plugin for the status bar. Using the same string '/dev/rfcomm0' in the MAC field worked. (After connectiong the BT plugin). If that gives me any trouble, I'll try your suggestion.
Thanks for the tip -RichieP |

But not in the folder maemo-mapper. Is that the correct file? Can not open it with my 770 to see if its the right one. EDIT Ah. I have /var/lib/gconf/apps/maemo/maemo-mapper/%gconf.xml I guess thats the right one. Thanks! |
I removed
/var/lib/gconf/apps/maemo/maemo-mapper/%gconf.xml and /home/user/apps/meamo-mapper (including all mapps) After a reinstall it worked again! Thanks! |

feature request
I don't have internet access from my cell phone, so I wish I had this:
an option where you send the coordinates of two points from the map using sms (gnokii lib) and receive the route (driving directions) in a sms. my prepaid t-mobile phone can send a sms to an email address. a small application will sit on the home desktop reading the emails (sms), then will query gnuite's gpx cgi and then send back the xml file as an attachment to a sms. I will build the "server" which will sit on the home computer if somebody makes the modifications for the maemo-mapper. -ioan |

I just received my Holux GPSlim236 bt gps receiver.
Meamo Mapper detects it fine, but when I opt 'Enable GPS' it doesn't work, it pops up the message "Searching for GPS receiver" and stays there. Note: the MAC address is correct, I checked with hcitool scan and tried to pair with btpair; no popup for any key though, should be 0000 .... I don't see the device in /var/lib/bluetooth/[MAC]/linkkeys, it does show up in /var/lib/bluetooth/[MAC]/names and I have no clue whether that's ok or not.... Any hints? |

Same result: popup saying: Searching for GPS receiver
:( any other hints? [edit] tried also to do rfcomm connect /dev/ttyS3 [BT-MAC] 1 as I read here: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...0&page=4&pp=10 but I get: Can't connect RFCOMM socket: Host is down and upon trying again: Can't connect RFCOMM socket: Resource temporarily unavailable Oh yeah, I tried to cat /dev/rfcomm0 but that too told me 'Host is down'... |

Thanks again, ioan!
Couldn't bind to rfcomm0 - address already in use; binding to rfcomm1 works ok. Then, cat /dev/rfcomm1 results in the 'host is down' reply. hcitool scan shows the device fine, including name....! :( Took out the /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf bind yes instruction, rebooted, tried with rfcomm0 - same result: host is down. BTW somewhere along the line I also changed the /etc/bluetooth/pin to have 0000 as default pin - which is what the Holux GPSlim 236 should have as well... |
I have the same receiver and it works perfectly. The only problems I ever had were related to it losing connection occasionally. That, and goofing with the SIRF utility completely hosed it, requiring the internal backup battery to be shorted out to reset it to factory defaults. I would suggest trying it with a PC to make sure it works.

lbattraw, thanks for your response. I knew from another topic here that people used the Holux 236 with the 770, which is why I got that one. Well, that and the strong recommendation that it's a fine product.
I was thinking it could be set to sirf protocol (as I read on the net that some people had trouble getting it going), but then it should at least have given some response to the cat /dev/rfcomm0 command, or shouldn't it have? And I was thinking it might be using a different channel... In any case, I needed to check that Sirf vs NMEA setting, so I tried with a windows machine at work today - for lack of one at home, I have only Linux machines, including the N770 - and both with gpstool (I think that's the name) and sirfdemo from holux uk website, no data ever came out. I couldn't even connect to it, it seems. That was whilst connected via usb. Is it easy/straightforward to open it to short the internal battery, and would that void the warranty? I passed the holux 236 to a colleague who has a bluetooth numerix device, and asked him if he could have a look if it would work for him; he might not be in tomorrow, so maybe I only get it back after the weekend, not sure. In any case, I'm strongly thinking of sending it back..... |
