Re-install ALL your progs in 45 min without using restore/backup
5 Attachment(s)
If you prefer to use restore/backup to re-install your progs after flashing, you do not read no further. Have a good day.
The backup/restore menu also allows one to choose only backup/restore Application lists, I have NOT tried that one. In general, I do NOT use restore upon upgrade. I prefer to copy ALL the repos and re-install progs by going thru App Manager>Browse installable applications, and click my favorite progs and install them one by one. This way, I re-install ALL my progs in 45 min without even one hiccup - no dependency problems for ALL my installations. In general, I always add repos and choose progs from app manager, that may avoid problems like this, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=21437, almost one post said it does not work, immediately counter balance by another one said it is working. If you are careful, I believe you can copy /var/lib/apt/lists to your SD before flashing and put it back after flashing, and then change whatever repo needs to be change. I did not do in that way, I did it the old fashion way, I typed it out in a text file, and typed it back after flash. It took only 5 mins. Here is a list of ALL my repos, only seven, that has almost ALL my progs, ________________________________________ maemo Extra Diablo http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ chinook diablo free non-free Eko one http://eko.one.pl/maemo bora user maemo chinook http://repository.maemo.org/ chinook free non-free Testing maemo Extras http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/ chinook free debfarm http://quinput.org/debfarm chinook user maemo Extras http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ (leave this empty) free non-free Wardenclyffe http://wardenclyffetower.com/maemo chinook user _____________________________________________ and here are the progs that I installed, one by one, took ~45 min, with absolutely no dependency problems. And I also believe these are the most common progs that are used by average users. bun |

Re: Re-install ALL your progs in 45 min without using restore/backup
The only thing I restore is my bookmarks. The others I install when I think about them. In a way, I welcome these times, because I reassess which programs I really want and really use and which I don't.

Another point I tried to stress, is go with repos, not progs. Add repos 1st then the progs, usually will avoid dependency problems as well as, not working right etc. On this Diablo update, dont forget the magic commands if you encounter problems, apt-get -f install bun |

i also agree with geneven. Some apps i download just to try out, and some apps i download just become useless.

Is there anything I can do for you, Scarflash :p ?
Your addition "I love Bunanson" made me feels like I finally did something right, for a change.....:) bun |

1: what is the path to the external mmc? 2: chmod -x lock didn't seem to help. I copied the rest of the files, and it didn't recognise the catalogues. Perhaps, this won't work or is too risky, guessing that lock file is important. |
Re: Re-install ALL your progs in 45 min without using restore/backup
WOW.....thank you! I also added:
Ricky Bent Web address: http://rickybrent.com/maemo/debs Distribution: chinook Components: free non-free for abiword... the only unresolved issue (currently......) is Maemo-recorder keeps asking to be updated yet when I run it it will not update...however, it works so it has been a very low priority.... |
Re: Re-install ALL your progs in 45 min without using restore/backup
I haven't tried this with the tablets, only my Ubuntu notebook, but with dpkg you can make a list of installed packages manually and import it again in one go. I think application manager does something similar.
Backup (assuming /media/mmc1 is a memory card): Code:
sudo gainrootCode:
sudo gainroot/etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list . |
Re: Re-install ALL your progs in 45 min without using restore/backup
We have dpkg here; that looks like it should work.

Re: Re-install ALL your progs in 45 min without using restore/backup
I just did a fresh Diablo reflash with R&D mode of my N800, added all repositories in the 1st post of this thread + rickybrent to the default repositories in application manager and did:
Code:
sudo gainrootCode:
Failed to fetch http://rickybrent.com/maemo/debs/dists/chinook/non-free/binary-armel/Packages.gz 301 Moved Permanently |

Re: Re-install ALL your progs in 45 min without using restore/backup
apt-get update just gets the new lists; it's the same as a "refresh catalog" or whatever in app manager.
That error's indicating that the URL given for the rickybrent repo is wrong; you'd get the same thing in the app manager. |
