Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

a. What do you mean half sized? Like the whole thing is scaled down? Make sure you have "64" selected for icon size in the settings window. If a partial icon is showing, try resizing the applet by grabbing the handle at the lower right hand corner.
b. What application are you clicking? How many times does it take to disappear?
c. Click the "Home" text at the top of the desktop screen, go to "Applet settings" and click "Personal Launcher"

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

How are we supposed to add/edit icons? I installed the .4 version then updated to the latest version, rebooted, clicked the icon on the desktop only to have it disappear. The icon itself is still there, and I can drag it around, but it's completely transparent and doesn't do anything when I click it. Help?

Click on the "Home" label at the top of the desktop, go to "Applet settings" and click on "Personal Launcher"

yes, it works fine now, thanks a lot.
the icon disappearing problem is a result of the icons's host panel become very small.

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

can anyone tell me how to.... im wanting to make icons to go along with the lcars theme.... just the same rounded rectangle drawn in MS paint with the proper label added inside... my problem is when i made the first one it was apparently too big , i do have my icon size set to 64 , which is where i want it. but when it loaded in it appeared as a square. so i went into paintshop and changed the icon size to 64pixels wide by 37 tall loaded it in and it still appeared as a square. can anyone help?

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

Currently PL doesn't honour aspect ratio. IF you make your icon 64x64 canvas size but make the image 64x37 it will load as a rectangle. I am going to change the code to honour aspect ratio but still make the large dimension the same as the selected size.

What do i put in the command line box to make my n800 shutdown? i'm looking to make a quicker shutdown button on the home screen. thanks :)

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

`/sbin/shutdown -h now`

be sure to check 'Run as root' and 'Run in terminal'

You'll probably need to set up SUDO first, though.

How to change programs icons?

Hi, I'm a new n800 user and I really like Personal Launcher... just a question, I have a nice set of icons and would like to use them instead of the default, where should I put the icons to use them with PL?

Sorry for bad english! ;)

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

I just got my new n810 today (and am loving it), but I know little about linux and nothing about maemo. I installed the nifty-looking Personal Launcher (after updating to Diablo), but I have no idea how to run it. The application manager says it's installed, but I can't find an icon to run it or anything similar. Any suggestions?

Hi,

heron61, go up to the menu, on your desktop screen, you will see A line that says 'applet settings' click on it and you will see A line for 'Persona Launcher' click on it and you should be good from there.

I am A noob as for Linux too but the challenge is worth it.

Thanks muchly!!! I now have my favorite icons on my desktop, which is vastly more useful than having to scroll down through multiple menus for them.

Also, many thanks to the person who created this app, it is wonderful!

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

Hi,

I tried to use the personal launcher. When I added applications via the interface found in control panel but I only managed to change the "circular wheel icon which represents the personal launcher" into the media player (the 1st application I selected). I then tried to add other applications and they do not appear.

I have tried to uninstall and down load the launcher from the maemo but nothing changes. I still get the media player as the icon and still unable to successfully add applications.

Any idea what I did wrong?

Thanks
Lawrence

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

I have installed PL and configured everything and it's working well. Thanks!

Question: Can its location be moved? I would like to place it at the lower edge of the screen. Currently it's right over the Google search bar which I would prefer to leave in its location. Thanks.

Just use your finger to drag nd drop. There is also a smal grey rightsngle at the bottom right for resizing.

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

Wow, It's really tricky. I must have started 15 applications before I actually saw the black background and was able to move it. About as tricky as moving GPE summary or the RSS feed reader. But I got there eventually. Thanks.

I presume there is no way to enter coordinates for positions and size anywhere is there?

Excellent new version! Just updated and already loving it (as usual).

Thanks.

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

how come when you have the background locked does the corner radius changer not work?

fiferboy 2008-10-09 00:05

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

Locked size is a mode you can select. To go back to the other way check 'Use resizable mode'

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

my icons arent going transparent when i adjust the slider....i just have black text on a clear background

fiferboy 2008-10-09 01:07

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

There are two opacity sliders. Make sure you are adjusting the icon one (lower is more transparent)

munky261 2008-10-09 01:19

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

i am adjusting the correct one...i turned it all the way down and they arent going transparent at all

alephito 2008-10-09 01:26

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

I have 12 icons in two rows of six. The last one in the second row does not start the application. I rotated the icons and always the last one does not work.

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

hmmm, looks like I broke the icon transparency. Oops. I'll try to fix that soon.

There is a problem with desktop applets where a click in the lower right sometimes registers as a resize event and not an activation event. Try clicking more to the upper left of the icon and see if that works

yes there has been some difficulty resizing so a fix will be nice thanks for this useful app.

tried yo use blank entries in the layout so as to sort the icons into groups, end result, desktop crash/reset.

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

I'm having icon corruption on app launch while animation is active even if the program was updated to the last release which is supposed to fix this behaviour (N800 with latest Diablo SSU, booting from SD, OMWeather and GPE Summary applets actives, no wifi, no bluetooth, using large statusbar clock, advanced backlight and load applet)

fiferboy 2008-10-11 13:47

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

tso, to be honest I never anticipated or tested blank spots. I can see why it would fail. I guess you want an irregular layout, so can't just use the padding? I will look into this.

I have seen the corruption on animation. Clearly graphic effects are not my strong point. Scratchbox doesn't show the corruption, so I think it is something to do with the amount of processor time it takes. At least it is an option you can turn off if it bother you, but I will see what I can do about it.

yep, what im looking for is 2 or more irregular groups of icons, visually seperated from the other groups.

like say having one group of system apps and one of games.

the simplest, and most fiddly is basically to allow empty entries (funny enough they mostly work already as manually adding something with just a name will produce a blank spot, no icon or similar, just like adding titles in personal menu).

the more complex one is to give the user the ability to put each icon into a numbered group, and have the software figure out how to do the spacing so that each icon of the same group are next to another of the same number, but no next to any of another number, based on the shape and size of the launcher area.

but that latter solution could be highly cpu intense i suspect.

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

What about somehow being able to run two instances of personal launcher at the same time...would that be possible?

tso 2008-10-11 20:09

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

while not knowing the first thing about maemo desktop applets, i find it highly unlikely.

the maemo system do not seem to be designed to handle something like that (this guessed by looking at the current gui for selecting applets to show and so on), unless a single applet can have multiple "windows" open...

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

on a separate issue....i just installed todays update of the launcher and icon transparency still isnt working.

Re: [Announce] OS2008 Personal Launcher

Yes, the latest update was just to fix a packaging error.

Regarding two instances, you could copy the .so file and desktop file, but they would still read from the same configuration file, so you would have two identical applets running.
