Grandcentral Dialer help
 

i read through the grandcentral dialer thread, installed it, routed my sippnumber through grandcentral. I can't seem to find the grandcentral app to launch it. it has it in the installed application list, but i can't launch it to make out going calls. Can some one help me understand how to do this? It seems like im missing something.

Normally it's installed under extras, you may have to scroll down to find it.

What version did you install? ( where did you install it from? )

i installed an old build. i installed 0.7.2, all works now. Is there any word contact information integration?

I am really really sorry if I ask a dumb question. I dl and installed and it ring up the other phone. But we cannot talk. The other phone has to call back. Is that the way it is or we suppose to be able to talk? If so, how?

You have to go to GC and have your gizmo number as the callback number.

I have that done and it is working to receive call GC+Gizmo. My question is by using this GCDialer, does that enable me to talk? So far, I can only dial and make the other phone ring. The other phone sees my number and call me back. Is that all it is? Or is it suppose to be able to talk after ring or the other phone has to call back and then talk?

Of course!

you call; the other person picks up the call; GC calls the IT; you pick up the call; then you two talk. That's the idea. :)

So the GC Dialer actually allows you to call and pick up the call back at the same time.

Note: You will hear the ring; just wait for the other person to pick up the call. When he has done that the GC will call your IT; at this time, you accept the call then you two will be connected.

The grandcentral dialer is not a Voice application. It merely enables the callback dialing that grandcentral provides.

If you go to the account tab on grandcentral dialer there should be a callback number. If it's blank you have a problem. That is the number where YOU are. The number you dial is who you want to talk to. When you hit dial GC will call you on YOUR number and then connects you with the number you dialed, you will hear ringing until the other end picks up the phone.

Here are a few things that show a problem.

1. The phone listed on the account page doesn't ring
2. When you pick up the callback phone you don't hear ringing
3. You are not connected to the number dialed.

If you wish to use the Nokia as a "phone" you also have to create a Gizmo project account and configure the a SIP account on the Nokia. This enables the VoIP functionality that is compatible with GC. You can then go to GC and setup another phone and set it to the Gizmo "1 (747) xxx-xxxx" account number.

Once that is done you can then go to the account tab under the dialer and pick the "1 (747) xxx-xxxx" number and the dialer will "call" the tablet.

There is more discussion in one of the older thread here. The dialer application will make the whole process easier once you are setup since you will be able to call ANY number, not just those in your phone book.

How to do that?

Right now, I have set the GC+Gizmo to call me whenever my GC number is being called. That works fine.

Using the GCD, I am able to make the other phone ring and that is it. The other phone picks up but there is no action on my phone. So how do I config so that the GC will call me when the other phone picks up?

I am not good at setting up sip acct, they keep on saying my acct is not setting up properly :( . You think you can point me to some reading which I am NOT that interested :o , or simply just take me thru.... what a lazy bun :)

You have to have SIP phone connected on the IT ( click the green button, presence button, on the "status bar" at top righ of the IT to check)

No. Still wont work.

On GCD Account screen:GC Number is there and working,
a rectangular box: Clear Account Information must reauthenticate
Callback Number: working

Is that clear acct thing suppose to be there?

If I turn on my Gizmo5, GCD will call my gizmo on my tablet, I am calling myself, that is really hilarious. Anyhow, it does not work for me. So far, that is working: I made the call out using GCD, and the other phone will ring. and see my number, then I would rapidly start up gizmo and wait for my party to call me back. that is working, a little bit crumpsy, but you get what you paid for. And certainly this app GCD is a wonderful app. I am goin to go to work now....yup, sunday 12 noon, what a life.

Thanks for you all trying to help, I guess the problem probably lies on RTCOMM or the acct set up?

I have everything you listed, I dont seem to see a callback phone? does it only come up when people call back?

Wait... You are saying that people can call you on the tablet? In other words, when some one calls your GC number, the tablet rings? If this is true, then you DO NOT have a SIP problem. I think I know what the problem is.
First, on your desktop, go to Grand Central and go to address book. Call a number (your house phone would be good) using the Gizmo option. Your tablet and the phone you called should ring. This means that SIP is set up correctly, etc... :D

Now, on the tablet, go to the Grand Central mobile site. Make sure you have WGET, and Cookies turned on. Login, and call your house again. It should ring the tablet and the house phone. (sometimes the mobile site is a little shabby, so try a few times if it does not work)

Great, now you have a cookie with your login details. Use GC-dialer and it should work.

If it does not work, reinstall or something :confused:. I don't know what the problem is

Nay, I am kidding. You need to know what is wrong, right?

First nhanquy's link for the video is critical. I would NOT be able to set it up without following the video. And the point I missed, more than 10 times, (I tried several months back), the acct should be your gizmo acct, NOT your grand central acct nor, any other acct. When setting up the sip acct, you use the gizmo acct. And that is the missing part. Of course, brontide's note about picking up the phone connects the dots. Thank you. Would you two believe a 'smart' guy like bun has this critical problems ;)?

Apparantly, one does NOT have to set up sip acct correctly for GC+Gizmo to work. It beats me. Good try, problem solved, see above post. Add you to my thank you list, buddy! :)

Final Statement:

Now my nokia is finally, a nphone, able to call, able to receive call. Unfortunately, when comparing to the iphone, I missed the $79/month subscription that tag along with the iphone. Darn!

Don't forget you can call anybody in the US and they can call you too, even you are outside the country as long as you have wifi access. AND IT IS FREE. Iphone can't do that.

I have been wondered about this! Maybe I should take a trip and test it now :D

When we receive calls I wish we don't have the dial "1" to receive them then that would be perfect.

Yes that's a nice option, I am using it today while here in Germany. :cool:
