Good media player app for someone with LOTS of music?
Hey guys. I just got a N800 and have loaded it up with two big SDHC cards and have around 10 gigs of music on it. That's quite a bit, I know. I have been trying to use Canola to play it but navigating around all that music just doesn't work very well on Canola. It doesn't let me browse my music based on the folder system I have set up, so I just have to depend on ID tags. However, I just have so many artists and albums and playlists that I can't navigate through them with Canola hardly at all. I have to swipe and swipe and swipe at the screen just to get through the "A"s! It'd be a lot better if you could just search or have the alphabet at the top to click on, but as far as I can tell, Canola doesn't have that sort of functionality. Are there any music playing apps that would let me navigate my copious amounts of music more easily, or at least offer a bit more flexibility in how I can organize it?

I think mediabox will respect whatever folder system you set up.

Canola can also browse your music by folder.
Go into Audio --> My Music Then scroll all the way down and there's an option "Browse by folder" Hope this helps :) |

No problem :)
Also, the Canola team said they're working on a better system for browsing through lots of music (ie ways of jumping to a certain letter of the alphabet) I'd look through some of the threads over in the Canola forum for details :) Supposedly it's going to be included in the next beta |

Are they also working on a standard installation in Diablo with updated dependencies? Just wondering? |
Re: Good media player app for someone with LOTS of music?
Yeah... the story's detailed in a bunch of now very long threads in the canola forum. Basically they're being forced to wait because not everyone that has created libraries that they make use of has updated them for diablo compatibility.
However, they're getting a lot closer :) Canola now works perfectly on my Diablo N810 so I'm guessing they're close to releasing something official :) |

I have one of the new PNY 32gb sdhc cards with ~30 gigs :D In one of these threads I read about someone who claimed whatever player they were using corrupting their mp3's. My solution is just to flip the the little "read-only" switch on the side of the card once it's loaded up just to be on the cautious side. Anyway, I understand your problem and don't really care for Canola. I'm using XMMS, and I just like to let it play everything randomly, but that still doesn't solve the problem. I might have to bite the bullet and try Canola again down the road unless something (hopefully) better comes along. |

MediaBox is made for large collections.
I have recently loaded my 8 Gig SDHC card with tons of mp3s, oggs, and videos and MediaBox doesn't show any sign of choking. :) |
