Buying N810 in Canada?
So I've been considering buying a N810 lately and the only real thing holding me back is tacking down a solid place to buy it from in Canada. Ideally I'd like to buy from a brick and motor store but that seems impossible.
So where would you first think to turn when wanting to buy a Nokia product? NOKIA'S WEBSITE! Ohh ok, I'll just march my browser on over there... http://store.nokia.ca/home.php ...wait, what is this? "The store is currently under maintenance. Thank you for understanding and please visit us again soon." Oh ok thats understandable then... IF IT HADNT BEEN LIKE THAT SINCE MAY I emailed the ****** that works Nokia Canada support and got the same canned bullcrap response that they were sorry and I should contact the stores on their "store locater map" (which isn't even a map its just a list). I did, but all of them only sell Nokia Phones. Not the Internet Tablets, so no success there. |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
I was recently looking at the same thing (I'm in Toronto). I had to go to Michigan to buy my 770 and I'd rather avoid that.
I too discovered the online store was down, but from what I remember when it was up, the N810 is waaay more expensive than most stores. The only brick and mortar that I know of that sells it is Tiger Direct but the price is ridiculous. You can get it for around $385ish from ncix.com which is out in BC. They may have a few stores out that way but I'm not sure. A friend bought two complete systems off them and they're reputable. |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
They're $365 on tigerdirect.ca
I've been to the brick and mortars and have ordered stuff online off them tonnes of times (as have friends). I just bought on, you may want to as well. |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
I just bought mine from here:
http://www.swiftgamers.com/product-p/02703r1.htm they look to be in Ontario. Very good response on email inquiries. And quick to ship when they said they would. |

Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
So far the best online deal I can find is http://www.directcanada.com (Including Shipping, Taxes & etc).
I can save about 10 dollars if I go with ebay. The auction says it's new, not Refrub. Is there disadvantages to buying on ebay? |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
I've never bought on eBay but I know tonnes of people who have (records, etc.) I'd be leery of getting electronics off of there but that's just me. If it's brand new and it's from an online store, check the store's website. If it's an individual, that would put up warning flags for me.

Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
How about an N800?
I can't find them anywhere now. I guess they have discontinued these? And the N810's are much harder to find then they used to be. What is going on? I know they will soon be selling the N810 WME, but is anything else new on the horizon? |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
Got my n810 from NCIX when they first came out [well, it was a couple weeks to get it in, but still]
The n800 claims to be in stock at tigerdirect.ca and I've seen a bunch of deals there. n800 - $268.97: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...7195&CatId=228 n810 - $414.79 http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...156&srkey=n810 NCIX: they don't carry the n800 n810 - $387.07 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...ufacture=NOKIA |

They didn't have any N810's either, but they said they would be getting them back in stock (unlike the N800's). |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
Any Brick and Mortar options in Ottawa? anyone know?

Good luck in your search, though... if I find any places that have reasonably priced n8*0's I'll post it here. |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
My N810 is set to arrive today (Toronto) from tigerdirect.ca. I ordered it last Sunday at $365.99... it's gone up!?

Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
While we're on the subject . . .
Anyone know where to get the Armor Case (by Boxwave) in Toronto? I'll be there in a week for 2 weeks, so I could always order and have it shipped from BoxWave to my destination there. But, I was wondering whether anyone had seen it in store that I could easily snag. http://www.boxwave.com/products/armo...-n810_3045.htm |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
Good news everyone...
After almost a year of work Nokia Canada has finally managed to bungle together a website. Lucky for you because now you can pay the $499.95 (+TAX +S&H) for a n810. Your kind donation will go to support the douche that runs their web department. http://store.nokia.ca/product.php?pr...cat=254&page=1 |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
Who are they kidding? Any people from Nokia Canada frequenting this site? Care to comment?

Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
Sarah,
Given that Nokia tablets are a rare sight in Canada much less Toronto (I know 2 770 owners, 2 n800 owners, and saw one 770 out in the wild), I doubt you'll find something specifically tailored for the N810 out here. Your best bet would be College St. between Bathurst and Spadina as there are about 10 computer stores on the north side of the street. I haven't seen many PDA cases much less tablet cases though. Everything is iPod iPod iPod... |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
The N810 is really overpriced considering how lackluster the GPS performance is... As well as the inability to access the PowerVR onboard. N810 was poorly architected.
I live in Canada, I own an N810 - still deciding whether it was worth it or not. I use the device, but I feel like I got more performance out of my old iPaq H2200... Nokia isn' concentrating on the N810 enough. If they actually made a concentrated effort, I'm sure the N810 could be a lot better. |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
Hedgecore,
I decided it's probably worth it to splurge and order from Boxwave. They will at least deliver to Canada, and it's the case I want (which I can't even find on ebay!) as well they have the Battery back up system (a power unit that runs on AA batteries that claims to power up to 5 power cycles depending on which device you're using -- handy for long trips, especially if stockpiled with charged AAs!) I have a few things sitting in my cart right now . . . |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
"Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Centre.
The pricing on www.nokia.ca is competitive to the pricing of other retailers in Canada. Pricing may also vary between retailers. Nokia is glad to hear that you were able to locate a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet at a more affordable price." ... do companies realize fill-in-the-blank form emails are infuriating? A $125 dollar discrepancy is *not* competitive pricing. Sarah: I got my sister a Power Monkey, which is about half the size of a RedBull can (and a little smaller in diameter). While I don't know if it will charge the battery completely, after the PM charges via wall plug it'll keep any of her mobile devices going. Right now she's using it on her cell phone and N800 and it doesn't take up a lot of space. My N810 rarely leaves the house, or a wall socket's within reach so I'm aces. |

(And for the record, there might not be a brick and mortar store in the GTA selling tablet specific equipment... but if my online store is located in the GTA and specializes in unique tablet products such as OTG adapters, speaky-mikey adapters, etc doesn't that count?? ;-) ) -Rob |

Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
Hedgecore you wouldn't believe the canned responses I got when I quested Nokia Canada about buying a n810 before they reopened this webstore.
They told me things like if I wanted to buy a cell phone I should contact Bell Mobility. I must have filled out 20 or so of their "Customer Service Satisfaction" surveys. Everyone I told them the copy and paste attitude they have to customer support is horrible. |

http://www.electronicproductonline.c...hp?cPath=35_67 I actually just started talking to Boxwave yesterday about bringing in some screen protectors, though I'm waiting to hear back as the pricing they offer resellers doesn't seem to be very competitive compared to what they offer end users... (I'm not going to bring in a whole batch of them just to find that nobody wants to take them since they're not any cheaper than going to boxwave direct) |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
Rob,
Oh, I know they're selling... but what I meant is I've rarely seen them in the wild. Before I started working from home I'd seen two tablets on the subway and a 770 being used as an mp3 player by someone walking down the street... otherwise my sister has an N800 and a guy at work got a 770. Me thinks they live in peoples' homes more often than naught up here because of the ridiculous tethered data fees we enjoy. Seriously, if they capped at 6GB for iPhones at 30 bucks, why not give me tethered data at the same rate? |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?

Eg: http://www.howardforums.com/showpost...&postcount=755 That particular plan requires a 3 year lock-in though. Rogers have their 'unlimited on-device browsing' plans that can't be used for tethering, and for a short while, those were the only plans they talked about. They've introduced more with the introduction of the iphone. |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?

On the other hand, it is only in the last couple of months that Rogers has offered data plans that aren't ridiculous. I guess this has resulted in tons of new usage - so the speed and reliability of their 3G network has gone way down. |
Re: Buying N810 in Canada?
I'm now waiting for our provincial CDMA provider (MTS) to catch up on pricing. Right now they charge $20 for 2mb/mo(yes, that's mb, *NOT* gb).
