n800 with 64 GBs of SDHC space
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmyep
I loaded both sd slots with PNYs 32 gig SDHC cards Here are the initial results after loading them with 64 GBs of data... cards were read in both slots, but browsing them, was, as expected, slow canola2 missed a vast majority of the media (i just copy pasted the first 64 of my music collection over, so it was about 98% music and 2% cover art). From what i can tell it only got about 18 artsits or so (~4 gigs or so). Not sure where the error lies in that one I cannot mount the n800 via usb in ubuntu, windows is about to be tested. I checked my dmesg and it is as follows Code:
[ 275.479877] scsi 10:0:0:0: Direct-Access Nokia N800 031 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2Ubuntu can read the card via onboard card reader, so me thinks it may be something involing the n800 itself anyone got any questions, feel free to shoot |
Re: n800 with 64 GBs of SDHC space
UPDATE
hmm...when i go to windows, the mount option said there were a few errors on teh disk, it repaired them automatically and now canola sees everything, browsing a bit faster too =D |
Re: n800 with 64 GBs of SDHC space
I've got two of those puppies and they picked up speed when I moved to Diablo. They picked up even more speed when I partitioned for dual boot and added KDE and Debian. At start the blue bar now only makes it past the 'O' in Nokia. They are slower only when I'm downloading from computer onto cards. I would have loved to buy the class 6 but they were way too expensive. Still I'm very happy with the cards. The added space allows for a lot more apps, media, etc...

Re: n800 with 64 GBs of SDHC space
Hmm. I'd be a lot more interested in something like this if there was a way to have them both be seen as one disk. (It makes it really difficult to sync music to the player when its spread on two drives). Anyone know if its possible to turn two cards into a form of concatenated storage?

jhoff80/ace:
What if you create links to both drives in one of your media folders in MyDocs? Then point your media player to that folder and the links would appear as subfolders and all of your music would appear to be in the same place. For example something like: ln -s /media/mmc1 /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/.sounds/mymusic-ext ln -s /media/mmc2 /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/.sounds/mymusic-int Change "mymusic-int" or "mymusic-ext" to whatever you prefer |
Re: n800 with 64 GBs of SDHC space
Hmm. I'll have to look into that and maybe give it a try.
Wait, except when connecting via USB, you can't see the Documents folder. The reason its an issue, is if using Windows Media Player (or any other syncing software for that matter) its seen as two separate players, so I'd need it to be visible through that. But maybe I can create a link on one card to another card, maybe I'll have to try that when I have a chance. |

With enough work, there's no reason you couldn't get software RAID/LVM/whatever to work here, but it would be a major hassle, and would render it difficult, at the least, to access them over USB. As for linking from one card to the other, that's only workable if you're using a UNIX FS, e.g. ext2. That's probably a good idea anyway, but you will need Ext2 IFS to access it under Windows then. I'm doing this on one of my cards, and it works fine with Vista -- except Windows is a ***** and doesn't believe in multiple partitions on SD cards, and just accesses the first one. (Really, that's all I want, but I'd rather it wasn't broken...) |
Re: n800 with 64 GBs of SDHC space
Now's the time I wish I had purchased and N800 rather than an N810...
Lucky dogs and your 64 GBs of storage! I don't even believe there is a 32 GB card for micro SD... alas... Good luck with this, fellas. |
