How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Is there a way to play Sirius on the Nokia N800 without having to go through X-Terminal each time and typing in the following steps:
X-Terminal ssh root@localhost cd /home/user/MyDocs cd sipie python sipie.py |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Anyone know?

Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Install personal menu or personal launcher.
Then, add an entry and type the following as the "command to execute": python /home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py Make sure the "execute as root" box is checked, and the one that says run in terminal if you want, then choose an icon and save it. Then, you should be able to run it just by selecting that icon from your personal menu or personal launcher :) Hope this helps :) |

Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Hmm... I'm not terribly familiar with sirius... does it ask you for a password?
Also... can you post the exactly output here when it asks you for the password? |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
I think that password might be the "execute as root" .. so it is either asking for root's password via su, or it is using sudo and your user is not able to run sudo without a password in the sudoers file. (look around the forums for solutions).
I don't think the run in xterm checkbox works.. I've used that before and had the same result.. and empty xterm window opened and just sat there; while the app I ran went into a new window. There didn't seem to be any purpose at all to that other xterm window. |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Hmm... Well if it's asking for a root password, you should install qwerty's "rootsh" package which gives sudo permission to "user"
And interesting.. I've never used the checkbox so I wasn't aware of that. I just thought I'd mention it in case the python script used a command-line menu or something of the sort :) |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Yeah, it basically just says that the password is wrong. I try my Sirius password and my Sudo Root password and neither one work.
So, if I install "rootsh" will it still ask for my password? If so, what should I put? Thanks everyone!!! This is almost perfect!!! (And, after listening to Mel Karmazin on The Howard Stern Show today, this should remain working after the merger goes into effect.) |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
I don't believe it should ask for your password. However I'm not familiar with exactly how personal menu handles the "run as root" checkbox, so my answer is definitely not the be-all end-all :P

Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
And mine was just a guess as well.. if you install rootsh then no.. it wouldn't ask for a pass if it was a sudo/su thing I do not believe..
Do this; install rootsh, then in the personal menu launcher instead of: python /home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py run rootsh python /home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py and then deselect both the run in terminal and run as root options.. see if that helps. |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Thanks, FatalSaint - I will try that when I get home. Does it work for you?
|
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
I don't use Sirius :).. can't really test it. I don't see why it shouldn't.. I've used a command with spaces in the launcher of Personal Menu and had no problems.. and since rootsh is like a sudo it should work fine.
But that all depends what the password was coming from.. |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
It's probably the same password that I type in now that comes after:
ssh root@localhost Right? |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
That would be my guess.. yes. That's the root password. rootsh allows you to do this without a password at all.

Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Installing Personal Launcher and Sudser allowed me to open a Sirius stream without manually, first opening X-terminal, and second getting root.
Personal Launcher and Sudser complete both steps for me, awesome! All I have to do is enter a stream name :D |

Is this "Personal Launcher"...? Where is "Sudser"...? Which of these do I download/install for Sudser: Is "Sudser" the same as "RootSH"...? Can you please explain exactly how you did this? |

I installed "Personal Launcher" and I installed (what I believe) is "Sudser" (it shows up in my list of programs), and I have a satellite icon on my desktop (for "Personal Launcher"), but when I click into it, two XTerm Windows open... First Window: Normal Window waiting for a command. Second Window: Says: "python: can't open file '/home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory Check that - after re-starting, nothing opens. The only time anything happens is when Root & Terminal are NOT checked off - then something comes up saying that Sirius is starting, but then nothing happens. Also, if I only select Terminal - then the error message listed above comes up and both those XTerm windows open. Is there something I need to do with "Sudser"...? Where do I do that? This too didn't work: sudser python /home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Did you try using rootsh instead?? I have no idea how to use sudser .. you'd have to go search it on the forums. But Personal Menu and rootsh python /home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py should work just fine...

Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
I tried this, but it didn't work:
Do this; install rootsh, then in the personal menu launcher instead of: python /home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py run rootsh python /home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py and then deselect both the run in terminal and run as root options.. see if that helps. |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
does it give any error?? is that the right path to the sipie.py file?
|
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
If nothing is checked off, nothing opens. If I start messing with the two boxes to be checked off, various errors arrise.
When I check both boxes, an XTerm window opens asking for a password. I enter the password I selected for Sirius and for RootSH, but they don't work. So then, I try again and the XTerm box opens saying: Sorry, user user is not allowed to execute '/usr/bin/rootsh python /home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py' as root on Nokia-N800-23-14. When nothing is checked, it just says: "Sirius Satellite Radio has started" on the main screen, but nothing happens after that...? |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Select both the "run in terminal" and "run as root options"..
type MyDocs/sipie/sipie.py in the command box. Seems like Sudser works quietly in the background giving root. |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
OK, I did that for both the Personal Menu and the Personal Launcher, but neither worked.
Two XTerm windows opened and one asked for a password, so I tried my Sirius password, but it was wrong. So, I was able to give another password, and I put in the one that I selected when I set one for the "Root" and that didn't work and then I got the following error (again): Sorry, user user is not allowed to execute 'MyDocs/sipie/sipie.py' as root on the Nokia-N800-23-14. Now, when only "Run In Terminal" is selected (with Personal Menu"), I get a line for "Enter Username:" and I enter that... Then it asks for my Sirius Password. Then it wants login type (guest/subscriber). Then it asks about Canada (True/False). And then I get a ton of lines of errors. :-( Here is the full code: Quote:

Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
I had the same errors until I installed Sudser.
For now uninstall Rootsh, use/install Sudser. |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Only when I leave "Run In Terminal?" checked can I get as far as I did before.
I uninstalled RootSH and the same results as before are what I got. Nothing new, nothing less. When I check them both off, it opens, asking for a password. I enter my password and then it gives me an error. :-( Am I not installing Sudser properly? I have it listed in my list of installed programs. (Sudser Version: 0.2.0-2) |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
Does anyone have a clue - PLEASE?!?!?!
See my previous post. |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
try changing the command to:
/home/user/MyDocs/sipie/sipie.py I just read your initial post.. the full path to your sipie.py is the one above.. all my rootsh commands were going to /home/user/MyDocs/sipie.py ... i forgot the sipie/sipie.py part. sorry. |

So, I don't need Personal Launcher, huh? Just Personal Menu, right? I didn't check off Run as Root and it runs. Is that normal? Thank you so much!!! |
Re: How Do You Play Sirius Without Going Through X-Terminal Each Time?
If it runs... does it matter? :D
As long as you have a good way to run it.. try whatever you want.. take off Run as Root.. see if it works.. if not put it back on.. you can even try the rootsh ones again with the right path and i bet they work without the run as root option set.. But ultimately if it's working.. who cares? :D |
