gps data logging?
 

Is it possible on the N800? I'm more interested in track data which would record track speed and time segments.

I spent the afternoon getting GPSTracer to work. It only logs lat and long position. No time or speed data.

Shouldn't be very hard to add in the (system) time, you can then either post process for the speed or parse another NMEA sentence to grab the GPS outputted speed (you could do likewise for the GPS time if you want that instead).

Well this should an easy project to learn with.

Do some reading about the NMEA sentences and see which ones you need (and their format - try wikipedia for NMEA, then look at the external links if you need more info), browse the source code and see where the data are written to file (which is where you can add in saving the system time), etc.

Have a go, and drop me a line when you've some idea of what needs to be tweaked.

Mapper can save gpx routes. There is time and position in it.

mfortner, as Boke says, try maemo-mapper and see if that does what you need.

Thanks guys. I did try Mapper and it does not log the speed. I'll poke around the source code and see what I can learn.

That should be an easy fix as it certainly displays the speed.
