I got eurosport fine. Interesting, yahoo link also locked up in my area. Apparantly, all the olympics broadcast are very selective in regions. Perhaps, worry about too many subscription?

I guess I am only to wait for the opening ceremony from our TV later to night.... nice try, verybody, thanks,

in the us nbc owns the broadcast rights for all olympic coverage. no network can broadcast any olympic coverage until after nbc has broadcast the particular event so you wont see anything on cnn/abc/cbs until after nbc has broadcast it.....my guess at least 24 hours later

ItsGameTime.tv. Streamed live using flash so no downloading any programs. Although illegal, there are no ads except a donation button for the Olympics.

CCTVOlympics.com. CCTV will be supplying more than 5,000 hours of Olympic Games coverage for mainland China and Macau.

BBC Sports. The U.K.'s official Olympics broadcaster will offer six streaming channels showing coverage from BBC TV and BBC News Interactive. Channels will focus on on-demand daily highlights and athlete interviews.

Yahoo7. Australia's official Olympics online portal offers live streams, video coverage on-demand and behind-the-scenes interviews, specials and features.

CBC Olympics. Canadians can tune into the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation online for supplemental live streams, video coverage on-demand and behind-the-scenes interviews, specials and features.

Cox High Speed Internet. Cox customers can access 2,200 hours of 25 events streamed live, plus full-event video replays, extensive highlights, including daily recaps of key events, best-of montages, commentator analysis and athlete-specific clips each day, available on NBCOlympics.com via a link from the Sports page on www.cox.net.

Getting Around Location Restrictions
In most cases, users in the United States will be blocked from viewing the footage on the non-NBC sites. But you may be able to view clips or streams from other countries if you use a proxy server located within that country, or if you can otherwise trick the streaming server into thinking you're from a country where it's allowed.

The easiest way for those not interested in paying or dealing with geo-limits is to go to Proxy.org for a list of proxies, organized by country.

Peer-to-Peer Options If you want to move beyond bite-size recaps and highlight reels, P2P sites are your best bet for backdoor access to unedited blocks of Olympics footage. Additionally, content is likely to be available sooner than the 12-hour delays expected with some of NBC's coverage. Try these web workarounds for full access to the Olympics.

Veetle Stanford University's experimental web TV platform requires a downloadable player, but offers live broadcasts of soccer games, basketball and more.

Sopcast. This free P2P internet TV player requires a download, but offers a wide lineup of channels broadcasting the Olympic games.

TVants. This is a P2P Internet TV, which requires a free download. TVants can run on Windows or on Linux's WINE.

PPMate. A Chinese P2P Internet TV network, download. PPMate only run under Windows.

TVU Networks. This P2P internet TV player requires a free download and only works with Windows, but is a good resource for watching global sporting events online.

Recording Events Online WM Capture. If you're looking to make recordings of certain events to save forever, transfer to an iPod, or import into a video editing program, you'll need to use a on-screen video recording program like WM Capture. NBC is streaming using Microsoft's Silverlight, which has an encrypted stream, making streaming videos hard to capture digitally. WM Capture is especially well suited for high quality recordings, as it uses a proprietary high speed MPEG-2 codec for fast video capture from any region on your PC's screen.

Sort of like buy one get one free, it is free, buy the right shoe, we give you the left shoe, FREE.

I guess if one really really try hard, one can find it, maybe. I got more things to do then try to twist the arm of those media tycoons.

Its over. I've seen it live on TV. There was a small lag for 2 reasons: 1) satellite connection latency 2) the Chinese TV lags the broadcast for 20 seconds.

However, if they show photos instead of video (I noticed this on the en.beijing2008.cn as well), then its indeed BS.

PS: All people residing in The Netherlands heads up: DVB broadcasts of Ned1/2/3 and regional TV are free. You do not have to subscribe to anything to receive these on your DVB enabled device. The public television will broadcast a lot of the Olympics, so you can watch 'em for free on your DVB enabled device (such as the Samsung one sold by KPN).

Not to sound too political...
THE opening ceremonies are now over and we all get to watch the replays on real TV's over dinner. Fortunately, I live in Canada (and its greatest supporter) and we have CBC which was live this morning (I was up) and several feeds throughout the day.

The opening ceremonies here absolutely stunning and non-political - all about invention/engineering - (and that's my line and love) I wonder how the next country can hold the world's attention after this. I heard numbers of $2-300,billion bantied around - a sum which could help some of the 800 million peasant farmers that live below the UN poverty line some sort of reprieve. However, I guess the final outing of China makes it all worth while.

A little side note: I met my wife in 2000 when Beijing (her home) and Toronto (my home and now our home) were competing for the Olympic games. We couldn't lose - both of us would win because they are both great cities,

I'm glad Beijing got the games because the poor old tax payer in Toronto/Canada couldn't afford all of this. I think we are probably still paying off the 1968??? Olympics held in Montreal!!! And we can sit back with our NIT's (as long as we don't live in the USA :rolleyes:} and enjoy it tax-free!

Let's hope for a great and safe Olympics and may all our teams do us and the world proud.

I got the CBC live feeds to work on my tablet; beautiful, clear, full screen video.

It was a pain to get it to work. First I got Bundyo's MPlayer plugin. Then I went to the cbc.ca olympics live video website. Then I chose the channel. Then when the MPlayer plugin just sits there, saying "getting playlist", I double click and hit "play" from the menu that pops up. It tries to play something but doesn't work. I double-click again, and copy the URL using the menu choice. Then I pull up a terminal and type

mplayer -playlist <pasted URL>

Of course, I paste the URL into the command, instead of typing <pasted URL> :D

It is magnificent, better streaming video than I've ever seen...

You got lucky, qole! I tried that before and I tried that now, same thing, error message "Region". No cigar :(

I did watch the whole thing from HD NBC, pretty amazing

Edit: My mistakes! I 'assume' qole is from california! What a mistake! I appologize.
