Nokia Compulsive Crashing

Okay, I want back to 2005! Lol.. After configuring my email in 2.0, the device will crash and restart upon loading. Basically creating a continous loop of it loading, stalling for 5 or 10 seconds, crashing, then loading again, etc.. I'm running windows and I tried to use their fancy install wizard, only to find out that I'm not allowed to anymore. Any ideas?

Update: Now, the device works except that the icon on the left where the email should be is just a blank square now.

GlacialPhoenix 2006-06-25 05:54

Haha. I restored it to default settings via the control panel, and everything seems just fine now. It took me forever to find out that the default lock code is '12345' though.

Oh, and for future readers, the method I used to get it to stop compulsively crashing and looping and insead get the blank icon was to take out the battery. Lol.

Hello.
Had you install GPE PIM appli in your tablet under OS2006 ?
When I've installed its, my tablet doesn't crash, but I had a blank square like you said.
I think the reason was GPE Icons. Often, when I wanted use calandar, my tablet was blocked.

No, the only app I had installed at the time was maemo-mapper.

My problem arose after I attempted to configure the email client with my gmail account.
Everything worked fine for a while. It even obtained all of my emails and allowed me to send out, but then after shut down and restart, it started to bug out.

The same problem, and the same root cause: mail application.

I'm afraid that I am having the same problem. My email client worked fine with receiving just a couple of new emails a day. Until I didn't used it for a couple of days and it downloaded more emails than usually. I don't know how much, about 10 I would say. Now it is in the same constant reboot mode and unfortunately for me, taking the battery out doesn't stop it! And with no linux available I hope Nokia releases the new flasher soon :-)

You can download linux on CD

There are tons of places that offer linux on a CD, Knoppix, cool linux, also USB distributions are also good.

Just download ISO image of knoppix and burn it to a CD

Boot it

Download the flasher and the image from inside linux

flash it

There is even a Knoppix version that contains the maemo development environment

I was also experiencing a continuous reboot, I reflash fixed mine, I could not get into the OS to fix it

I too had the same problem but couldn't figure out which was the cause, neither how I solved it... But now it works.

I tried also to take out the battery but no chances, then the moment in which it started working was when I tried to reflash it again in windows: got the "device not valid" (or whatever) message and no image flashed, but it started again to work, without the browser icon, and the mail (well, chat) one moved in the above position, the fixed it through the application manager.

Just my 2(€)c

Thanks Penguinbait and Maxilogan for your replies. I'm giving it a few more tries switching on/removing batteries and if that doesn't help I'm going to download the Knoppix boot CD.

(Being a Solaris C++/Java programmer I suppose setting up a decent linux home machine is something I should have done long ago :-)

Thanks again.

Well, it took me a while to get round to download Knoppix but when I finally found the time a couple of days ago it all worked like a dream! My 770 is up and running again with the latest 2.0 release. Thanks again for your help.

Mine has started again doing it last Friday and just aftyer 3-4 resets the screen was gone (white screen of death) :-(

Now I sent it back to Nokia

reset defaults

When we restore from backup, sometimes old settings conflict with the new OS.

My 770 was rebooting endlessly, but it was due to using my old Virtual memory on the mmc. I had to go into the Control Panel and choose 'Restore All Defaults' which turned off the Virtual Memory for me because my 770 would reset before I could uncheck it myself.

Then, I reformatted my Virtual Memory from the new OS, and I never had another reboot problem thereafter.

Good luck!
