Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
sorry, but full-screen/sleep stuff is still flaky. died on me once (not that i can tell you how to reproduce), and when i restore to full-screen it starts throwing characters (+ signs?) to the focused app on the remote windows desktop-
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
mscdex: Sorry about that. I use diablo, and you actually have to upload the source once for diablo, and once for chinook. I wish I could just upload it once for diablo and chinook... Anyway, since you note that you're using chinook, I guess you have extras-devel installed. I would like to push pyrdesktop and rdesktop-cli to chinook extras, but I needed someone to make sure everything worked, first. So, has everything been working? I'm uploading 1.6.3-maemo1 to chinook extras-devel right now.
sds910: Hmm.. I'm not quite sure. The method I use is detecting if the rdesktop window gets overlapped at all. If so, it gets brought out of fullscreen. In my testing, this was quite reliable, and I still can't make it die unnaturally. I'm also unable to reproduce it giving strange characters to the remote desktop. How long had you been running it when you got those errors? Do the plus signs show up every time or just the one time? Also, do you have a n800 or n810? |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
just for feedback i've now had a session up for 24 hours as a terminal services session to win2k3 a record !!!
a huge improvement, very many thanks... it does seem to drop to a windowed session when the tablet powersaves, but it restores to full screen without a problem. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
might i suggest that the program defaults to the last selected profile on startup rather than having it be blank? would save on some taps in most situations, i would think, even when you have multiple profiles chances are you aren't going to make a new one on the fly as default

Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
willplaice: Glad to hear everything's working well for you!
IcyAirs: Sounds good, I'll try to implement that for the next release. Here's a preview of what's coming in the next release: threading, so the GUI will stay open and working after you open a session, and I've done a lot with detecting whether or not you're connected to the internet. If you aren't, the tablet will attempt a connection, and continue if it works (or fail with an error, otherwise). Also, I've implemented auto-reconnect that will work only if you have an internet connection. A box will popup saying there was an error, and it will reconnect you in six seconds automatically, but you can cancel if you want to. I should be able to get IcyAirs' suggestion in the code in just a bit, and then make a new release! |

And, it does bear repeating: THANK YOU. Even WITH this quirk, having a 95% working rDesktop on the tablet is better than nothing at all. I can work around this problem if need be, after all... |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Thanks for the extended explination. The best I can guess is that it's a bug with Yahoo/Konfabulator itself. None of the keys on the n800 map to the plus sign, and I can't imagine anything in the code that would send a plus sign. Are there any other keys that would trigger this reaction? The code for coming in and out of fullscreen is pretty clunky at the moment, because it actually destroys and re-creates the window. I'll try to play with it a bit this weekend and see if I can get it to work better. I'll also try installing Konfabulator to see if I can reproduce anything. Also, if you have a linux desktop, try installing rdesktop on that and see if the bug shows up. Lastly, it's always good to hear that someone else finds what I'm doing useful!
On a side note, a new version of pyrdesktop (version 1.5.0-2) is in extras! I reccomend you update, but this version is still a bit experimental. However, I have implemented auto-reconnect, and I'd like some feedback on what people think of the implementation. Going to update the first post with the changelog now... |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
The app in question is very simple XML & JScript coding; I've modified it for my own (nefarious) purposes and I'm no programmer -- this should tell you something about its simplicity ;) Like I said, I'll do some testing with the new version and report back. If I can break it, I'll concentrate on the hows and whys heavily. And, no, the N800 is the only Linux unit I have at hand (but I'm not exactly a newbie, having spent several years as a SunOS & Solaris sysadmin in the corporate world).
UPDATE: Well, just forget the whole thing. rDesktop is working perfectly in this regard, as I've just caught Windows' OWN Remote Desktop Client doing the exact same thing to the app in question. Who woulda thunk it? Back to the drawing board on THIS end! |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
problem.. just updated to the latest... (well diablo did) and no rdesktop (never starts)... uninstalled and reinstalled, still nothing ?
can i have the old version back ? |

Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
sds910: Well, that's good to hear (in a way...). Good luck! :-p
willplaice: Hm, strange. The old version can be downloaded from http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p....3.2-3_all.deb . Before you downgrade, can you try running /usr/local/bin/rdesktop.py in xterm and posting the output? heavyt: Also strange. It shouldn't be dependent on python-launcher, but I do see a small mistake I made that could cause that. I'll try to package a fix later tonight. |

Of course, the next problem is that none of the other available standalone apps for XM Radio Online/Windows play as nicely over a 800x480 screen and/or are controllable by the N800's keypad so I'm kinda SOL in THAT regard... but, no matter... I have tons of other uses for rDesktop! 10Q! S. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
hi i can't run 1.5.0-2 or 1.5.0.3...
./rdesktop.py File "./rdesktop.py line 21 in <module> import conic ImportError: No module named conic. I don't have any other apps of consequence installed... tried removing and following link to old version... python missing... installed python launcher, same error as above... I'm away for the rest of the weekend... any ideas ? many thanks... Will |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)

In a terminal window, enter tthe following commands whilst connected to the internet. sudo gainroot apt-get install python2.5-conic apt-get install python2.5-dbus Answer with y when prompted at any stage. You are now good to go. PS: I am assuming you have python 2.5 installed. Check by typing in the terminal window python Ctrl-D |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I installed latest 1.5.0.3.
But it disappeared right after it runs and started Anyone has same as my problem ? |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Woops, it seems I did miss a dependency. 1.5.0-4 should be in extras in a little bit. It fixes the dependency issue, and removes dbus imports because I didn't use them anyway...
therock_80: Try installing 1.5.0-4 from http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d....5.0-4_all.deb (or wait a little bit for it to be in extras). I forgot a dependency on 1.5.0-3. |

Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
OK, can you downgrade to 1.5.0-3 again (using http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p....5.0-3_all.deb ), open X Terminal, and type:
Code:
/usr/local/bin/rdesktop.py[edit]Hmm, I'm now observing this error. Nothing seems to cause it, except python-launcher. I'll keep examining the error to find a fix. |

/usr/local/bin/rdesktop.py ---> not found. So i have to run: /usr/local/bin/python rdesktop.py It works and program window pop up. I exit xterm, run pyrdestop, this program disappeared after started |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Ok, 1.5.0-5 has been posted to extras. This should fix the problem.
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
yes it works now
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
hi, just did a clean install i have pyrdesktop 1.5.05 and rdesktop 1.6.3-1
in xterm ... line 22 in import dbus... no module named dbus, regards, Will |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Woops! I always test these releases on my n800, but I forget that I have a bunch of extra python packages installed that others might not. I just pushed 1.5.0-6 to extras. It should fix the issue. Sorry about that...

Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
This is probably a bit of a basic question. I've just read every post and didn't see an answer (unless it was in that text output box).
I cannot connect using pyRdesktop. In rDesktop I did not need to enter a 'Name'. When I log in on my Win PC I am only asked for a password. So what do I put in Name? In pyRdesktop, if I leave it blank I get the error: Sorry there was an error connection to "". Conn refused. Will try again... The remaining boxesa are completed as follows: Host: Local PC I/P address 192.168.123.xxx Username: Logon Name (with no spaces) Password: my password to logon to the above username profile (no spaces) Domain: WORKGROUP (I believe the default or what many use at least) I did not change the advanced preferences default settings. I did get rDesktop working under chinook to my Win XP pro machine and until recently my settings were still present though I have never connecetd under Diablo. pyRdesktop version is 1.5.0-6. Am I using the correct version as I only installed the single package 'pyRdesktop' and then updated with all the updates as they appeared? I see you have split into two now. Thanks for the help. And thanks for all the work you are putting in on this. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Hmm, that seems strange. Name is really just a vanity field. It's used for profiles, and for errors. The reason it says "connection to ""." is because you didn't put in a name (it would show the name if you put one in). The name field does not affect anything except for the title of the remote desktop window. Try adding a name (anything will work), and see if the connection works then.
You should only need to install pyRDesktop for it to work. pyRDesktop depends on another package, rdesktop-cli, which is really the rdesktop executable (the part that does the connecting, etc.). Make sure that rdesktop-cli is installed, and that there aren't any updates for it. If all else fails, double and triple check your IP address. That's the best cause I can guess for the error. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Well I tried the IP address check first. I was sure it was correct - I hadn't changed it and I even have it written on a sticky note on my monitor. Guess what? It changed! It went up by one. (I did ipconfig to check) and with the correct address it connected immediately! Wow - I haven't seen that for months. Thankyou, thankyou.
FWIW, I tried the sound and it was uniteligable distortion. Didn't even sound like music was playing. I did read something about sound but kind of glanced over such posts as I was looking for initial connection help. Any suggestions? BTW I have rdesktop-cli 1.6.3-maemo1 |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Glad to hear everything works. As for sound... it just sucks ;-)

Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I don't suppose there is any chance that this could run on a 770?
I know, wishful thinking. The software looks awesome - and the auto reconnect may actually be what pushes me to upgrade. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
onhiatus: It could be possible to build this for the 770. Which OS are you running? OS2006, OS2007HE, or OS2008HE? Also, can you post the output of running the following command:
Code:
dpkg -l libssl*In other news, I just started school again, so further development will be much slower now. If anyone points out minor bugs that prevent usage, I'll try to get those fixed ASAP, but other than that, there won't be too many new releases. That being said, I'm glad I was able to get the program to this point before school started for me, as the program seems to work well :-D |

I'll try to remember to get you the output tonight... I have a 5 week old, so I'm usually fairly distracted once I get home :) |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I did some research, and from what I can tell, the chinook version might work fine. Try installing http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...emo1_armel.deb then http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p....5.0-6_all.deb .
Let me know if it works! |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Here's the output from
dpkg -l libssl* Code:
un libssl <none> (no description available)Thanks, Tony |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
onhiatus: I am now 99% sure the chinook package will work. Install these two debs: http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...emo1_armel.deb then http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p....5.0-6_all.deb (in that order!). You should be able to install them in the application manager without any problems. If you encounter any errors, post them here, and I'll take a look at them.

Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
OK, then it seems I will need to recompile for the 770. Libc6 is most likely showing up not because you're missing it, but because you have a lower version than it wants (I'm thinking it's the same for libasound2). I'll try to compile it this weekend.

Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Quick question. Is Memory card supported? I never got this working on rDesktop - always came up with an error, but apart from that rDesktop works fine, but occasionally id like to copy from my NIT to PC (and vice-versa) but this doesn't work in rdesktop.
Cheers BT |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Yes, just check the disk sharing box for memory cards. Then on the remote computer, in "My Computer," you should see mmc1 and mmc2
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I think I've found a bug. Somehow I deleted the first profile, which was also the default profile, and rdesktop wouldn't load anymore. I then installed gedit and load_prof was set to the deleted profile. I've changed it back and now all is well.
Thanks for the excellent updates to rdesktop. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Oops! That would be a bug... I'll do my best to get a fix out tomorrow.
As for the 770 version, I didn't have any free time this weekend, so I'll try to get scratchbox for the 770 installed sometime this week... |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Just a few questions from a upcoming newbie.....
At my company we are using a software package called Wonderware. It has an HMI that we access through terminal Services. I want to get an N810 to access this on the go....but I have a few questions, if you could spare a minute of your time..... 1. I currently use Cisco VPN client version 4.8 on my laptop. Do you think the applications: VPN-GUI and VPNC will connect to my office VPN...? They are supposed to even pull in the .PFC files from my cisco VPN client....but I am not for certain. 2. I want to use PyRdesktop to connect to our terminal server running on windows server 2003.....will this work ok....? And will it work with the VPN software above...? 3. Now the big question.....just give me your thoughts: Our HMI software runs at a resolution of 1280x1024, so when I connect into our terminal server, if I am on a monitor that shows that resolution, then it goes full screen. But if I log into the terminal server at a resolution lower than 1280x1024, it will cut it off part of the application. So my question is: Does the Rdesktop application give you scroll bars to move around the screen if the resolution you are connecting at is lower than the application is setup to display, as the N810 is only 800x480. My work said they would buy me one, if I was sure it would work for me in the field......so I want to make sure it should work ok, before I have them invest the money. Thanks for any help you can lend, Steve Steve.smith@agy.com |
