Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
:( Ok new problem:
When I try to connect (click the CONNECT button) I get Error #35584. What is this? & How do I fix it? Thanks Matt |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Hmmm... the only thing I could find about error 35584 is an abnormal exit. Can you try running /usr/local/bin/rdesktop.py from the command line and post the output if the error happens again?

When I ran it from the command line the GUI launches with no problems. I click connect and then: same error as if I launched the GUI from the App / Personal Menu. I am able to connect via RDP from a Vista notebook to the target computer. The only thing that I can think of that changed since the last time I made a successful connection from my N800 was HomeTools updated. Thanks m |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
@TrueJournals
First of all, massive props for such great work. When I had pyrdesktop working it was absolutely fantastic. Now I'm having problems. I've read and re read this whole thread and can seem to figure out what's going wrong. I've got python launcher installed and I'm running OS2008 5.2008.43-7 not booting from the card. Whenever, I launch pyrdesktop the GUI appears and then immediately closes. I've tried qwerty12's fix to no avail. Please help, I'd love to have this working again! Thanks again to everyone for all your contributions. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Just downloaded and installed pyrdesktop. I have been spending almost a day trying to figure it out. Did research in the forum already, and still haven't figure out how this thing work. Opened 3389 on my router and my firewall. Still doesn't work.
PS I'm using Windows XP Home sp3, can someone help me? |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Windows XP Home cannot host a RDP connection. So the PyRdesktop cannot connect to it since the XP Home OS cannot host the connection.
I am not sure whether or not there is a hack to allow XP Home to host a RDP connection. If not, you'll need to use XP Pro, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or one of the Windows Server OS. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
There is a patch for Vista Home Premium which allows RDP input.
http://www.unet.fi/fransblog/2007/08...-home-premium/ On my Vista laptop it works fine as an RDP host ! |

I've quoted some posts above which suggest that there's a solution but it seems to be escaping me. Typing Code:
gconftool -u /apps/rdesktop/load_profguiltig's post seems to suggest that pyrdesktop is trying to pick up a deleted profile. Is there a way via the command line to specify a profile that pyrdesktop will pick up? Any help is gratefully appreciated. I'm using : Code:
pyrdesktop Version 1.5.0-6 |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Hmm... the gconftool line should unset the setting that tells pyrdesktop which profile to load by default, causing it to not load any profile. Since that doesn't fix the problem, it seems you're having a different issue. Can you run
Code:
python2.5 /usr/local/bin/rdesktop.py |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Running that command in Xterm gives the following:
Code:
~ $ python2.5 /usr/local/bin/rdesktop.pyIs there a way to check if the Code:
gconftool - u /apps/rdesktop/load_prefWhen I ran it I was just returned to the command line with no indication of failure or success. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Hmm.. that does indicate that you're trying to load a profile that's been deleted (just wanted to verify). Also, be careful with your spaces! There should be no space between the dash and the u in the gconftool command. On top of that it's load_prof, not load_pref.
To verify, you can install gconf-editor, and browse to /apps/rdesktopand check what value the load_prof key is set to. You can also edit or unset the key by right clicking on it in gconf-editor. |

gconftool -u /apps/rdesktop/load_profIn any case the issue seems to be resolved without having to reflash. Thanks a lot for your patience and help :). P.S. Out of curiosity what does the load_prof key do? |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Just out of curiousity, running this on my 770 with OS2007HE, problem im having is when the screen turns off (got this set for 5 mins at the moment) then is turned back on the rdesktop application is not full screen.
Is there any way to keep it full screen? Besides that, excellent application! |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
nry: Not that I know of... I experimented a lot with getting fullscreen/unfullscreen to work. I have no experience in C, much less dealing with X windows, so my implementation of getting it fullscreen is pretty hacky. I welcome anyone to look over the code and see if something can be done better, but you'll just have to deal with putting it back to full screen until that happens.

Here's my half-working (well, it catches the display going off but the fullscreening is iffy), lame attempt (my C sucks; hoping to catch the Vala and Python ship myself) of getting it to toggle fullscreen when the display goes off: http://pastebin.com/f54a1b074 Actually, come think of it: You'd want to enable fullscreen when state is OSSO_DISPLAY_ON as you unfullscreen it beforehand. And I should really osso_deinitialize... But, anyway, many thanks for this: I find it usable now that I have a keyboard. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I just started using this for the first time and had a question, is it possible to copy a file from a folder on my pc to my tablet?
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Nevermind, figured that one out....any idea why this will connect to my xp machine, but not to my vista, will most routers with a firewall not let you open a port to two different computers on the same network?
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
munky261: It'd be impossible to have one port forwarded to two different computers... Your router would never know where to put the traffic! Try following Microsoft's directions for how to change the port RDP uses... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306759
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
It seems I cant connect cause my vista machine is only home premium. Dammit...lol
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Ok, another question, my xp machine connects fine when on the same network but wont connect outside of that, any ideas what I have to do to get it to connect from anywhere?

they adviced me to port-forward the por 3389 (wich rdesktop use) try to do this!!! it didn't work for me...but it might be my router (alice gate 2 plus...sh*t :( ) |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I already had to open that port in the router for it to work as it is. Do I need to use a different IP address when Im away from the home network?
|

I have two different Profiles for rdp. One for home and one for not at home. I forget hgow I have it set up but if I use a different user name I can get it to go to 1 of my 2 comps on my home network from outside. HTH. Good luck! |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I already have port3389 forwarded for that computer, and the IP that is entered is 192.168.xxx.xxx but that wont work outside my home network. If the address I have entered that works when I am at home isnt the one my isp gives me, what else would I use?

Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Okay. I think I'm lost.
Thought I would post and beg for some help. :) I'm using Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2 I've followed all of these steps with success I believe. Remote Desktop On my tablet, I'm just getting a connection refused error. I finally got around to getting VNC viewer working perfectly but I thought I would try this one out as well. Any advice from you guys? Thanks! Edit: Forgot to mention that the only thing I have installed is pyrdesktop from the application menu and I'm using the most currrent version of Diablo. |

Visit http://whatismyipaddress.com from your browser. That is your external ip address. Then, you can goto http://DynDNS.com and set up a url that forwards to your ip address. There is software that you can download from them, something like "dyndns updater" and it will change where your new url forwards to every time your ip address changes. SO, if your connecting to, say your.ip.add.ress:3389 right now, you can assign yourdomain.whatever.com (which is free to set up) to point to your.ip.add.ress. The result is that you can connect to yourdomain.whatever.com:3389 and it will always point to your port on your machine, even if your ip address changes. |

It honestly sounds like a host issue with the Windows computer since you get a connection refused error. If the error was something like connection timed out, that would be something else. But it sounds like you are getting communication between the host computer and the Nokia, but it is refusing the connection. You are entering your Windows user ID credentials and password into the PyRDesktop connection manager, correct? Are you typing in the host computer's name or IP address? Or have you tried it both ways? |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I only have one home computer with one Operating System of Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.
It does have the Remote Desktop Connection application on it so I'm not quite sure what little step I'm missing here. I supposed I could possibly hack my wife's laptop that's running Vista but I would have to hide all of the kitchen knives first. :D So here's my setup: http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/3...simagesscr.png Paige is the name of my computer and my password and host address should be correct. I did install Pyrdesktop on my old Tablet, would that make a difference? I never edited any settings in the Home Network on my router except for my PC so I don't see why that should matter. Also, am I supposed to install any Python apps for this to work correctly? All I chose was Pyrdesktop from the application manager. Anyway, post some suggestions to keep me going on this. Thanks! :) |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Hi,
Don't use the computer name (paige) but the user name. hih |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Sorry, I should have mentioned that they're both the same.
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I don't believe XP Home can be used for an RDP host, only as a client, at least without doing a little hacking.;)
|
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
check for some old threads through google.
here is one for example: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=15448 i'm sure there was a howto for xp home. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Yeah, I have no doubt that the "connection rejected" issue you are having is due to the fact you are using Windows XP Home. RDP hosting was specifically left out of the Home addition.
Google "XP Home RDP Hack" for more information. It should be possible to modify Home to host a RDP session, but you'll have to do this before it will work on that machine. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
I've got TightVNC plus the Mirage Driver for TightVNC on my home computer with VNC Viewer on my tablet.
The end result on my side is pretty, darn fantastic. Any additional benefits for opting on pyRDesktop over my current set up that I have? The Windows home hack is a little spooky for me, but certainly is something I think I could manage if it would be worth the extra trouble. |
Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Hi there!
This IS the killer app for my tablet as it works great and is fast and reliable. I would just like on simple (I hope) thing that I've seen somewhere for the older app but I can't find how to do. Basically I'd like to know if there's a config file that can be changed in order to make hardware buttons act in a different way. I'd like the "back" hardware button to send "backspace" keystroke instead of "esc" and maybe it would be nice if the volume buttons on the uper part of the tablet could be programmed to increase or decrease volume on the desktop pc. This rdp is perfect for controlling your mediacenter (xp or vista or seven mce) without turning the tv on but just playing some music with the screen off, so remapping those buttons wold be the best thing for me! If there's someone who could explain me how to do it I would really appreciate. Thanks in advance |

Re: New rDesktop (with new frontend)
Sound is not working, well it is, but it is clunky and robotic, so you can't tell a difference between the types of sounds.
Is there a fix for this? I'm using the N810. Thanks |
