Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

i'm having troubles with getting the boot menu to work after this update. i went through all the steps i thought i needed to from this guide:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=22771

and it seemed to work but when i try to boot from anything other than flash in the boot menu it says boot failed and resorts to booting from flash.

my setup is: diablo in flash and chinook on ext SD. i would very much like to get back into my chinook install.

any suggestions?

thanks

Wow, I can't believe it. They finally fixed the broken drag-with-stylus scrolling of MicroB! :D

No they didn't. I haven't done anything to my 810 except install from repositories and the update didn't work. It installed, no reboot and still on the old version...

Guess I'm going to have to flash it again now then.

Application manager caches to mmc2 by default, there's no need to interfere with it to make it do this.

apt-get does not do this caching, so you're much more likely to run out of space upgrading with apt-get.

What Red Pill offers you is a way to disable this feature, not enable it. It is enabled BY DEFAULT. . . .

Anything wrong here?

How many times do I have to say this, DO NOT INSTALL THE "Operating System" UPDATE AND DO NOT LEAVE THE DEVICE IN "Red Pill" MODE.

Anybody who leaves the device in Red Pill and does random **** because they think they know what they're doing will get exactly what they deserve (and depending on the repositories you have installed, this is frequently a reboot-loop with the misnamed and frequently misused "Operating System" package).

Whats the solution for having a successful update (no system update listed in App Manager), but the tablet version is still 23-14?

I tried rebooting it manually, but no luck.

I have no idea what state it is in now. I haven't even bothered to get root on it, so I can't even do an apt-get.

What is the 'look' of your bootmenu? Do they have brackets surrounding your other choices? Maybe it is NOT the bootmenu.
More details.

hi thanks for the response

it looks like this:

internal flash
(internal MMC card, partition 2, ext2)N/A
(internal MMC card, partition 3. ext2)N/A
external MMC card, partition2, etx3
power off (when no on charger)

on the previous bootmenu it didn't show the two N/A internal partitions.

thanks please let me know if there is anything else to post to help figure this out.

It is NOT the bootmenu problem. Your choices 2 and 3 are hosted. your internal card/clone is NOT working. Your options:

1) take out your internal card, and stare at it for 10 seconds and put it back. Sometimes that would work.

2) take out your internal card, and redo the cloning process if your card is still readable by anything. Chances are, they are dead :( .

What card are you using and when was the last time you access the card and what did you do to the card just before the update?

Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

The update worked perfect for me, twice. I ran it while booted from mmc2, rebooted to flash because the boot menu was gone, ran the update in flash, reflashed the boot menu (thanks fanoush), and booted to the cloned OS on mmc2. Two successful updates with no problems at all.

I did have the rtcom-beta-os2008 installation problem, but fixed that by adding the Callabora diablo catalogue (thanks qwerty12).

it is the external (option 4) card that has my cloned os on it. i removed the internal card and the external card, let it boot to flash and then put the external card back in. still says failed when i try to boot from the external card partition.

the card is a pny optima 4GB card. i was booting from it most of the day right before i booted in diablo and ran the update.

any more suggestions would be great.

installed to my 810 from application manager. 71.9 meg free in memory. no red pill. not booting from card. nothing major onboard besides a couple of 3rd party apps.

app. manager lists update as 'broken', no explanation.

clearly please - is there any solution besides reflashing?

Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

MANY thanks to Bunanson for creating the separate thread with pointers to the old msgs showing how to reset the bootmenu after Diablo upgrade. I have my old stuff back now and am very happy. (AND I've done a Backup!)

When someone has a chance, can I get a reminder how to set it to boot from the SD again? I have tried chroot (using the instructions in the linked posting) but it keeps defaulting to the wrong choice.

I have the OS cloned to my internal card and can boot from that by scrolling (D-pad) to the right option. I'd just like to make that option my default again.

Thanks!
DF

Is this N800 or N810? I read that you 'removed the internal card', so this is a N800, right
If N800, put the cloned card in internal slot, will it boot?

OK, it is an N810 right, there is NO internal slot. Well, is your card still able to read/write? Try just write a test file to it. If it refused, you have a corrupted card. If you can write on it, then you will have to do a detective work, to find out whether the problem is with bootmenu or the problem lies with a corrupted clone card. Keep trying, we will get to the bottom of it. Dont get depressed.

its a n800 sorry i didn't not mention that before.

i switched the external card to internal card slot and it boots up!

thanks for the advice, this will work fine, maybe even better since i can now have the easier to get to external spot free for my other cards with data on them.

Interesting. What installs are known to do this since I know I didn't rm it myself.

I assume it takes a reflash to fix?

Is nokia not going to produce anymore OS Flashes? I know SSU is supposed to solve all the need for flashing, but if it breaks, its simpler just to have a Flash .bin to restore. There is nothing in the tablets.dev.nokia.com site except 23-14 and the chinook files.

Removing anything that osso-software-version depends on.

I tried the update, it started the install and got no message, so I assumed it was complete. I manually rebooted, but it still shows the old version. I checked my installed apps and the OS2008 Feature upgrade is listed with status: broken and I can't uninstall it. Any ideas?

Rane the apt-get, and just FYI rx44 is no longer available:

Quote:

Package osso-software-version-rx44 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
osso-software-version-unlocked
E: Package osso-software-version-rx44 has no installation candidate

All,

Have you noticed an extended 'hiss' noise(it last about 1 to 2 seconds) after the standard 'tick' sound whenever you interacts(eg. select item) with the touch screen?

I did not hear this 'hiss' before and I had the same sound configuration before the reflash. Is this a bug? It is no big deal, but I guess it would reduce battery life, since it still takes some juice to generate the noise:)

I have 'level 1' for all the sounds level configuration on the unit. I have N800. I flashed the unit to Diabio and then did the SSU update.

Cheers,

are you sure? or could it be that you just didnt notice because of a noisy environment? i hardly notice it if there is any kind of other noise in the room (people talking, music, tv, anything like that).
