Yes, this is nothing new. It's a hardware issue.

Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

The irony is...

Code:

# apt-get install osso-software-version-unlocked
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
osso-software-version-unlocked is already the newest version.
You might want to run ‘apt-get -f install’ to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
osso-software-version-rx44-unlocked: Depends: gizmo-installer (>= 0.79) but it is not installable
Depends: pre-installed-documentation-rx44 (>= 5.3) but it is not installable
Depends: pre-installed-images (>= 1.0.8) but it is not installable
Depends: pre-installed-sounds (>= 1.0.4) but it is not installable
Depends: rhapsody-installer (>= 0.16) but it is not installable
Depends: skype-installer (>= 1.65) but it is not installable

None of these should be unallowed to be uninstalled IMO. Its proprietary installers and some default artwork (using a lot of space).

It's not really about disallowing it, it's just a less-than-ideal implementation of the upgrade process.

Splitting 3rd-party proprietary stuff and optional media and documentation stuff into an osso-software-version-rx*4-optional would be nice.

If you are root and mounted mtdblock4 on /debian,
just run "chroot /debian"

Thanks once again.

I managed finally and found that my problem was once again dangling symlinks!!

I haven't tried the changes you proposed in another thread but removed and enabled them manually that allowed the update to finish.

Got also a crash of the browser when I double clicked to bring the dictionary add-on to correct what I was typing.

Well, at least for my unit, I did not hear any noise before. I have a very quiet room, with no TV/radio/kids/etc around while I am using the unit.

May be it takes time for the unit to develop the problem??? or my hearing is getting better:) Anyway, it is no big deal, but it is good to know.

thanks

Mine shows something similar (3 partitions like mmcblk0p1, p2, p3). I think the reason why is if you created SWAP then that's one of the partitions. At least that's how my 16 GB card is setup, 11 GB for FAT, 3-4 GB for partition, rest SWAP.

how do i fix this:

Package osso-software-version-rx44 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
osso-software-version-unlocked
E: Package osso-software-version-rx44 has no installation candidate

Erm, huh.

Well, osso-software-version-unlocked is a package rm_you put together to install the correct osso-software-version-rx*4-unlocked package.
Code:

apt-get remove osso-software-version-unlocked
Then try installing the osso-software-version-rx44 again.

Also do:
Code:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list
and post its output here.

I crashed my dual boot system with the latest upgrade Both Laughing man and General Atilles suggested I download Penguinbait's boot menu to restore my boot menu. I went on the site with the browser and clicked on the url that points to bootmenu.deb I clicked on it expecting the application manager to come up and install it (like the green download arrows), but it just sits there and downloads binary characters to the screen and nothing happens in the end. Obviously, I missed a step or two:( Can I get some clarification please.

I installed the SSU update on my n800. Its booting diablo from mmc2.
I had to use apt-get update command becuase i couldnt see the update in app manager. It showed me all the files that it was going to download and all was going well, but I got an error at the very end of the update process posted here:

I rebooted my tablet and now I cant boot from my 16 gig sd card anymore. I select my "internal MMC card, partition2, ext2" from boot menu. I get the messsage "booting from immc2 (mmcblk0p2 ext2)...The blue progress bar never loads and then it goes right back to the boot menu. I have verified that the card is not fried because I can see both partitions when I put it in my kubuntu laptop and all my files are there.
Is there any way I can get my n800 to boot from my card again?
Can I delete the incomplete update files somewhere on the card?
I never got the out of memory error that some have posted, so I dont think my issue is related to that, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Just to add some more info, I was running the rotate kernel before I did the update, but I have since flashed back to the stock kernel, but my issue still remains.
Thanks

Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

I seem to have had a bit of a problem with the update. The packages looked to all have installed correctly. The n800 did not reboot. After a manual reboot, the control panel reports I am upgraded. However doing a:

cat /mnt/initfs/etc/initfs_version

shows the old version of the initfs.

I am using the bootmenu and was booted from SD when I did the update. How do I get the new initfs/rootfs?

I do have a recient backup and could always boot to flash. Run the update a second time and reclone to SD and restore. Is there a better way?

TIA

You should be able to install it without root. Does it tell you what problem it is? (check the problem tabs).

Would this help, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=22155 ,
=============================================

Clone to mmc, I use 1 G Rs-MMC, use PB's clone scripts, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=20534.
Scrolled down to "SCRIPT UPDATED 11:30EST 5/29/08, http://penguinbait.com/install-tools-ad.tgz and dl the install-tools-ad.tgz into flash, not MMC card.

Place in /root
open xterm
cd /root
tar zxvf install-tools-ad.tgz
This will then make /root/install-tools (it has to be in this location to work)
cd /root/install-tools
Now, carefully read PB's instructions regarding INTERNAL-txt.EXAMPLE and EXTERNAL.txt-EXAMPLE. The 770 has only one SD slot and is internal. turn off swap file. Edit the INTERNAL.txt.EXAMPLE to your likeness, and rename it to INTERNAL.txt, and delete EXTERNAL.txt-EXAMPLE; This is my INTERNAL.txt file for a 1 G RS-MMC
" FAT 300
SWAP 128
1 ext2
TIMEOUT 10"

This should generate a ext2 600 MB and Fat 300 MB and SWAP file. and now fire,

./clone.sh

If it's the same as what happened to me, first uninstall Penguinbait's "Install Tools" through the app manager, then install the bootmenu installer.

Hi HowHH

That allowed me to install the bootmenu.deb but it never found the extra possible boot on the SD card so it just boot from the flash though the start menu looks ok - but I think the only option is flash - goes by too quickly. It doesn't work the same way it used to...

Anyone have some other ideas?

Hi Bun

Everything is back to normal. I was pressing the wrong button during the boot up and not the home key. I used the centre key of the d-pad because I remembered using the keys around it to select which image I want to boot from. All works fine now - more or less back to normal and both images are updated and working...

The problem was I hadn't booted my system for over a month (just keeps running) and I forgot how to do it... ;( All is well now

Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

apt-get is definitely not the recommended way to install this update. apt-get upgrade in particular.

Alright, I do believe I have it figured out. Here's how it went down:

At some point in time between originally flashing Diablo and the update being pushed, you, through direct or indirect action, removed osso-software-version-rx44 which cause you not to be able to see the update in Application manager.

Because of this, you decided to take the next-best route and update using apt-get upgrade, which didn't work out entirely, as some packages that osso-software-version-rx44 depends on we're not pulled in and not upgraded.

It was partially successful, though, because at least one important package was installed: nokia-repositories. Which proceeded to update your repository list and do two things. The first, which is actually unimportant here but pissed me off enough to mention it, is disabling maemo.org Extras, and the second, is changing the entry for the Tableteer update repo to point to the diablo-1 section instead of the diablo one.

This, of course, leads to the end result of you not having a completely upgraded system and also not being able to try to complete the upgrade again, as the repository you were getting your packages from is no longer in your sources.list and the repository that replaced it does not contain those packages.*

The solution? First, remove the nokia-repositories package with an apt-get remove nokia-repositories. Depending on the quality of the package (which is already low since it screwed with user settings on a LIVE system. . . .), this may or may not fix the issue. If it does not (you can confirm by running cat on your sources.list again), then simply edit the sources.list to change the diablo-1/ back to a diablo/. Second, re-install osso-software-version-rx44, open up Application manager, refresh the repositories, install the OS2008 Feature Upgrade and your system will be back up to speed.

/sherlock

*This is why it's a bad idea to apt-get upgrade your way to 30-2 if you don't have osso-software-version-rx*4 installed. ;)

Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

I cannot find osso-software-version-rx44. I tried all the suggestions and even manually edited hildon-application-manager.list and made sure diablo-1 was removed.

trying to remove osso-software-version-unlocked results in:
Code:

Removing osso-software-version-unlocked ...
cp: cannot stat '/usr/share/osso-software-version-unlocked/osso-software-version-rx34_4.2008.23-14_all.deb': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat '/usr/share/osso-software-version-unlocked/osso-software-version-rx44_4.2008.23-14_all.deb': No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing osso-software-version-unlocked (--remove):
subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 osso-software-version-unlocked
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Can anyone supply the correct osso-software-version-rx44.deb since it now seems to be missing?

Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

i did apt-get upgrade as a matter of habit. i didn't know about this update until after i had the problem. i had know idea it would hose my system.

My only recourse is to re-flash ?
i guess i learned my lesson. always use app manager.

Well, no, that's not the answer.

Nokia designed the upgrade system to work with the Application manager, but it doesn't handle edge-cases (like apt-get upgrading without an osso-software-version) all that well. If your repositories are in good order (no skanky 3rd-party repos and no SDK repo), and you have osso-software-version-rx*4 installed then you wont have an issue with an apt-get upgrade.

Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

Hi All;

(BTW, I'm using my new $10.00 A4 Tech mini-keyboard on my NIT to type this. Very nice little kbd!)

Today my n810 told me there was an OS2008 update available. I was about to blindly install it but something made check the ITT forum first.

After reading all 28 pages of this thread, I decided to chance it, because anything that claims to make MicroB faster is very tempting. (If you want a horribly slow experience, try google maps in MicroB). I dual-boot; both partitions have Diablo. I grabbed fanoush's latest initfs_flash, got it ready, copied my bootmenu.conf.

I did the update while booted to flash. It seemed to work ok; control panel reports 4.2008.30-2. It wiped out my boot menu but that was easy to fix - used gunzip on initfs_flash.tgz, did a tar -xvf, put it right under / , read Fanoush's README.txt, ran initfs_flash; it grabbed my saved bootmenu and I am able to boot to SD and to flash. I'm booted to SD as I post this.

Here's my confusion. Now, while booted to SD, App Manager is happliy advertising that (4.2008.30-2) is available. However, if I go to control panel, it reports that I am running 4.2008.30-2!

I'm tempted to install it while booted to SD, but I'm afraid. (yes, I frighten easily). I * think* that if I do, the worst that will happen is I will need to redo the initfs_flash. But, I have no idea if I need to. It's very odd that control panel would report the new version when booted to SD after I installed it while booted to flash.

Any suggestions most welcome.

BTW, I LOVE LOVE *love* the new minimalist theme! Thanks to Reggie and all responsible! It is a beautiful thing. Hooo-Ray!!.

Well, that's because the version string doesn't come from the rootfs. ;)

Grab another copy of fanoush's flasher for the SD and upgrade that partition, too.

Re: First Diablo SSU update is out (4.2008.30-2)

Hi, I'm one of those with the broken update. I have an N800, the ! flashed and I clicked, updated through the application manager and everything looked ok. It didn't reboot, so I rebooted, it appeared to work, booted ok, everything works, but in control panel->about product it still says 23-14. And in application manager OS2008 Feature upgrade gives status as broken.
Several people have asked this before, but I couldn't find the answer (short of reflash). How do I fix it?

I did everything as it was supposed to be done, never entered redpill, not one chinook repository on my list, nothing fancy installed (fbreader, scummvm, mplayer, dosbox, rubybox), the only thing I uninstalled was the maemo welcome (I think that is what it was called, after flashing to diablo, when you pressed "2008" it showed an animation about the tablet, not the advertising about the N810), but it never asked to remove dependencies. I have a lot of free room on the main memory (about 107MB) and about 118MB on the internal expansion.

this is my cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list

deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/certified/ diablo user
deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/non-certified/ diablo user
deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/updates/diablo-1 ./
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ diablo free non-free

I had some chinook repositories before (turned them off before updating) that I used for rubybox IIRC. I know that the diablo-1 is wrong, but I can't change them from the application manager.

How can I check if I have osso-software-version-rx44 installed? I saw the update signal, does that mean it is installed?

Any ideas why did it fail? If I flash, and then update again, will it fail again?

Thanks

No, it's not 'wrong'. Nokia has decided (for whatever damn reason) to have a new update repo for each release, diablo-1 is correct once you've installed 30-2.

If you saw the update, it's installed.

It's tough to say why exactly it might have failed, but does the Application manager's log show anything? Does an apt-get -f install fix it? Or perhaps a flash-and-reboot?
