bricked n800 - out of the blue
I have an n800 running diablo.
It's bricked out of the blue! It was properly shutdown a few days back. And today, I tried to switch it back on. The Nokia word came up. The blue bar at the bottom when all the way to the right. And stopped there. Nothing else happen. Had to remove the battery to shut it down! What's going on? How do I rescue my device? Do I need to reflash it? |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
1) Is the battery charged? Does it happen with the charger plugged in?
2) It probably wouldn't hurt to reflash. |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
Oh no.
Now I am even more worried. When I plugged in the charger. The Nokia word came up (normal). Then the battery and the plugged in sign came up (normal), no Charging word though. Then everything goes dead. Blank screen. |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
And it will not power on with the charge plugged in.
Need to go look for flashing software on Mac. |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
You won't find one. You'll have to use the linux flasher via the command line or if you have a VM use the windows flasher.

Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
Oh.. I can use linux flasher on Mac?
Sigh. looks like I got to wait till tmrw toflash on a windows machine. It will not power up even after I disconnect the charger. Had to remove the battery before it will power up and hang. Sigh.. Wonder what's up. |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
There's a version of the 770 flasher that will work for the macintosh :)
I've used it multiple times to flash my N810 :) (I'm running OS 10.4) |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
I wonder it has anything to do with :
"Future-proof your Internet Tablet with Diablo" - Enter the SSU. :P Edit : p.s. Hope it will not be an expensive paper weight, powered by Diablo. :P |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
...or, it could be that the battery is dead and needs to be recharged.
The unit will not run directly off the charger without the battery installed. put the battery in, plug the charger in and wait. no need to panic or to wildly speculate that Diablo "bricked your device". Thus far, your description sounds exactly like what has always happened with the N800's when the battery is exhausted; this is not new behaviour introduced by an OS update. |

Well, I do notice my battery is a little cranky. 1. It will not say it Battery is Full even after a VERY LONG time such as 5-6 hours charging with the tablet switched off. 2. It will say Battery is charged after a reasonable time when the tablet is switched on and charged. But it will continue to charge if I switch it off and leave the charger on, usually with the effects of condition no 1. 3. Sometimes, it behaves perfectly well and charged within reasonable amount of time with the tablet switched off. This happened since I bought it and flashed with the first OS2008. I'll let it charge over night (the battery does get warm though there's no display of battery charging). |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
Mine often did this, and I put it down to a rouge plugin on Canola in the end (I think it was the upnp plugin). Mine would go in a loop on the loading screen for about 10 mins, then it would go on normally. Since I've gone without plugins on Canola, I've been problem free.

Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
Am not sure I had Canola plugin.
Just flashed it my tablet using 770 flasher. It works fine now (for now). Now I can go and sleep soundly. |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
Installed OS2008 Feature upgrade 1:4.2008.30-2.
Boots fast now. Will report back if there's any problem. |
Re: bricked n800 - out of the blue
It sounds like your charger, or battery isn't functioning correctly.
the N800 _should_ state that battery is full. If it isn't something is wrong with the charging (again could be battery or charger). I hope this helps, Craig... |

Battery will set me back $$ wise. And am not sure will be able to get it here in Malaysia. Bought my unit from US. |
