Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
Hi All,
I am looking for a new phone (because I dropped my old one in a pool), but I also would like an internet tablet. The N810 looks awesome! If it could make phone calls and if it was unlocked, I would buy it today. However, I am trying to find a phone that has the same internet experience as the tablet, and I am hoping someone would know of such a device. I would like the phone to be unlocked, and it must be under $500. If the phone is worth it I'll spend up to $1000. Would the Nokia N95 suffice? Or should I buy the N810 and a cheap phone (under $150- unlocked). Please let me know! Thanks |

How about a n810 and the nokia 6555 which has 3g. You can get that for about 150 on ebay. But remember the 6555 battery life sucks on 3g

I was considering that. Any other suggestions?

Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
If you want real high-speed 3G, then a true HSDPA 3G is whay you should look for. and that is what the N95 supports with american frequencies (At&T).
The Nokia 6555 on the other hand supports upto UMTS bands - which is slightly slower than HSDPA. So it all depends on what you are looking for. When the N95-3 dropped in price, I bought one recently, and surfing on the Nokia N810 with HSDPA connectivity has been very good. I wanted HSDPA since I use Video chat a lot on my n810 (Gizmo / Google Talk client) and this is where HSDPA speeds come up as a big winner. Also the N95 5 MP camera is really a treat for me - since I don't have to carry a pocket camera separately (just for casual photography). But its real difficult to justify an expensive N810 and then an expensive phone like the N95 to add connectivity to it. I wish there were cheaper US 3G (HSDPA) phones from Nokia. |

Could the N95 replace the N810?

True, but I need a phone. I can buy both, but I'd rather choose one.

Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
I think it will help to know what you intend to do with the N810. Just browsing? email? Media player? It is because an N95 or a nokia E series phone (they have one with a keyboard) can do those things too. If the smaller screen does not bother you. (check it out on the store). S60 phones also have a lot of software add-ons too(commercial and free). But if you intend to learn Linux or really want a mini-computer then that is different. Experience in web browsing on the N810 is a lot better though (screen and browser) but the S60 phones are not bad.
I choose to have 2 devices path for myself with N76 phone (due to smaller size) and a N810. Like the other posters said they do compliment each other. |
Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
If you're really after a good browsing experience, phone, 3G and WiFi in a single device then I'd recommend an iPhone 3G. The drawbacks of this device is that it's not open source is locked to AT&T if you live in the USA.
Personally I go with the 2 device combo as others here have recommended. My N810 works very well with my Sony Ericsson K850i phone at HSDPA speeds. |
Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
[testimonial] I like the two device combo. Not only don't I have a problem with it, in fact, it makes sense to me, but I don't think you need something as powerful as the N95. A simple cheap phone is enough.
I use my phone (razr v3) to make phone calls because it's small enough to fit in my pocket for easy access. My N810 doesn't weigh down my bag like a laptop and I use it to get to the internet (essentially checking my email) because it's big enough to see/read. And, since I can also use the phone to connect to the internet on my N810 in wireless-less places, the combo is just right for me. Add in the gps, and it's a perfect combo for travel. I've just gotten back from a week long trip and used it for, let's see, checking and writing email, checking my news feeds, watching movies on the train/plane, writing & posting to my blog, showing off photos I took that day and last month to all the relatives and finding my way around in a strange town thanks to the most killa app, MaemoMapper! Did I forget anything? [/testimonial] O right. The camera, or lack thereof. Well, I guess it isn't perfect but it's very good! |
Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
When I'm away I can life without N810 but I can't life without N82.
N82 is: - ActiveSync client (I've a dovecot imap / z-push system at home) - UPNP Server - plays recorded VGA videos w/o problems - 5MP cam / Full VGA videocam - geotags my photos VERY fast - does have working GPS programs (including Google and Nokia maps) - does have a very intelligent tv-out to show presentations at work and photos/videos on a big screen when I'm at my friends home - is small - I've python to do some small own tasks - I can take phone calls :D I can't do that with my N810... a dream combo is the best of N82 + E61 + N810 together in one device |
Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
Thanks for all the replies.
@ slha89, does the N82 support Wi-fi? The N82 is looking better & better. |
Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
@iff2mastamatt: yes, of course.
And N82 (or better: Symbian) does have a useful PIM (no discussion, the actual Maemo PIMs are nice trys) |
Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
Please, if you can wait then read about Nvidia Tegra...
That's SOMETHING!! |
Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
Yeah that processor (Nvidea Tegra) looks cool. Maybe it is a great time to invest in NVDA.........
|
Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
Sony XPeria and HTC Touch Diamond are another option

Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
I'm surprised no one has suggested the E90 yet. That's the only phone out now that can compete with the N810 in terms of having an 800 pixel wide resolution, QWERTY, front-facing camera, and wifi. No US 3G though.

Re: Nokia N95 v.s. Nokia N810
I own a N95 8GB, I rather love it a lot. It is as good as the N82 and better, but lacks some of the Camera Function, like the Zenon Flash, but besides that It works great. I can tether my Laptop via Bluetooth or as a Wifi Hotspot. Tons and tons of Apps for it. Saying all that, I am thinking about purchasing a N810 right now. Surfing on the n95 is doable but kind of painful at times, it will do in a pinch. I'm going overseas next month and I would like something I can use for email and entertainment, as good as N95 is, I think it needs a friend.
