Also do not cut the metal cover that came with the N810. The metal covers will be available sometime next week.

The cover will be able to be purchased with or without the adapter kit. This way if any one want to make their own project or need a replacement it will be easier to do.

Cravesone,

Thanks much; I don't quite have enough posts to send a PM yet, I'll shoot you an email instead to the address on your website.

Thanks,

How thick is back cover I have a mod idea but never wanted to get into making a new back cover? Basicly how deep is the cover I'm hoping for close to 1/2 inch or more even lol. I have alot I want to cram back there.

i plan on ordering once the covers for the regular battery are ready.....but you know whatll really piss me off is when the new tablet comes out and if they decided to switch back to full size sd slot(s) LOL

There is only 4.3mm on the inside of the case so it will be hard to get anything in it if you need almost 13mm.

Well I'll be ordering one just as soon as the metal covers are finished. I do like the brushed stainless idea the best. Can't wait to get one.

Appreciate your efforts to make this device that much better!

Is it possible to use the car mount kit with this mod (SD adapter, SD card, SHDC kernel patch, Mugen 3600, your metal cover), or would this require an additional modification?

Not unless you mod your car holder or craves1 designs a new one. http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...376#post218376

quick question, you have mentioned before the possibility of adding additional components to this expansion.

Is there a possibility you could add a rear facing camera to the 810?

I can get USB 2.0MP camera modules for the metal covers. The ones I have works in Windows XP using the built-in driver ( UVC, driverless camera)
It is also said to work in Linux Fedora, 7, 8 and 9, and Linux CentOS 4.4.

My question is does anyone have any Idea if a driver can be created for the N810 that would allow such a camera module to work on the tablet? I believe a control software would also have to be created??

Any thoughts?

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

craves1,

since the driver is already available in linux, I would imagine the driver could be built and made available quite easily.

my software - liqbase - makes use of the camera very freely and I long to have it facing the other way.
I've got some really cool ideas I want to try but can't without one at the front.

I've got an n800 on its way to me, but would be really interested in a higher resolution one.
does anyone else think a camera would make a worthy addon?

Unfortunately I am not a software engineer and as the manufacture of the camera is saying there isn't any source code for the driver since it uses the native OS drivers. But like you said it should be easy to make (maybe). If there is enough interest I can make the camera happen. It will fit in the Metal cover.

I tried your software and I like it a lot. I would though like to know how to backup the data base so if I wanted to re-flash my tablet or move it between tablets it would be easy. I never save all my data in one location without a backup. I mostly like the graffiti wall Idea. I decided to look into the camera when I saw how your software worked with hand written notes. This has been my main way of storing notes for more than 15 years. The one thing I would like is to be able to take notes of news clips, receipts, magazines and business cards with notes about them when I am traveling.

I want one device that can do as much as possible that is not a cell phone. The future is 2 devices that are always connected to each other. Most of the people I know are carrying two cell phones are a cell phone and a mini PC of some kind. The cell phones today are too small for most things but making phone calls. That’s if you want to keep you vision.

As far as I know, and lcuk can correct me here, all the data is in /home/user/.liqbase/

And, does the anyone know of a camera that works with the N810? Everything I have tried requires more power than the N810 can offer, so a hub and power supply would be necessary. Aside from the drivers, this problem has to be solved first.

I am looking for a way to do it that is very easy and do not require anything other than file manager. It should be easy enough for anybody to just copy and save. Or maybe just a built-in backup to the SD card.

As far as the power for the camera modules I am thinking of using, the tablet would be able to handle them without a hub or extrenal power supply.
I just need to get past the Driver and the software that would take the pictures and save them to the SD card. These are the same modules you would find in other Mini computers or Mids.

craves,

I am enthralled with the prospects for interaction with a real camera.
I want things like instant postcards and writing on the back of a polaroid, even things like receipts and dinner orders is there, I'm also trying to incorporate almost automatic barcode scanning, just a barcode icon to enable it anytime the camera is out.

I know nothing about how to actually scan a barcode though, but know its feasible from the discussions with lardman and his library.

Simply storing the scanned codes in the stream would be ideal
whether or not there was a net connection, getting the data in quickly and without a fuss is the aim.

The sketching is developing even further, I have an improved render view in mind which will put together threads of your notes in logical sequence (as well as the current graffiti view).

I want it to include the images taken with the camera and sketches as well as the tiny snapshots of notes you make along the day :)

on startup liqbase briefly displays the actual data folder in use that time, though by default it is exactly where Thesandlord said :)

Thesandlord,

I don't know of any, how about you start a proper camera thread and ask?

Sounds like what I want is covered.

One question, can you put a drawing exporter that would export the notes to PDF so I can share my hand written notes?

Just a request.

Thank

He is working on svg support no?

Barcode scanner would be very sweet, mostly if craves can bundle in a camera.

Craves, can you possibly make an adapter with a standard USB host port on it, so we can just attach our own devices without any wires running around? This would be SO cool!

Maybe even a small hub with battery pack to have like 3 USB ports.:rolleyes:;);)

dont really care about size, as long as it is not HUGE

Anything I make must be requested by enough people to pay for the development. So far a hub is not on the drawing board. The tilt sensor, second Flash card or Flash drive and maybe a camera seems to be the most requested. It will all depend on how much of the first adapter I sell to pay for the development of it also.

I am thinking of putting the port on the outside of the kickstand but there may not be enough room since I am trying to keep the metal cover as thin as possible.

I am also developing a leather cover for the Tablet with the adapter and metal cover installed. The metal cover makes for a new way to put a leather cover on the tablet.

Thanks

A USB webcam working well on the tablet:

http://blog.locationist.net/2008/03/...g-goes-webcam/

EDIT: I think you should sell the vanilla kit with custom cover for a while. It will probably sell very well. Then start selling upgrades to your vanilla kit with a camera, tilt sensor, etc.

But I think there are many, many people impatiently waiting for those covers to become available...

This is exactly what I plan to do. I can not make any new products until I see how the plain adapter with the metal cover sells. I am always getting other things to work on while I am waiting for deliveries and prototypes. The SD adapter kit is finished I am just waiting for the metal cover to be delivered before I start selling it.

The Leather cover design is also finished and I have the first samples but I will not make quantities until I also sell the Adapter since they go together. I think people will be very pleased with the leather cover design.

The Camera module is fairly simple if we get the drivers and will be sold as a different kit if it gets that far.

Thanks

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

Craves1, do you think you can design support for CF card? It is way cheaper than SD (32gb=~$60) and even though is bigger than SD it might still have room with the Mugen cover...

Thanks for your Awesome work!

I also would appreciate a CF card. I'm entirely too frustrated with the limitations of the N810 and I haven't even gotten it yet...but...I decided its convenience outweighed its detriments.

A CF card would need to be attached via USB, because it's incompatible with mini-SD. I guess you guys are already discussing USB peripherals anyway.

I received my package today from Craves1. Inside a very nice MiniSD to SD adapter.

This adapter is very high quality. I installed it and it worked flawlessly. It's like the missing piece that Nokia forgot.

Craves, Excellent job!! Great engineering and the build quality is superb. I got no complaints!!!

Thanks for all your hard work.. Looking forward to my expanded storage capabilities. :D

Sorry all I have been a little busy trying to run my remote controls company with this economy.

I received many new samples of the cover in stainless steel but I am having a minor problem with them fitting on my N810. So I checked my tablet and it seems that one corner is out of square. In order to know if it is just my tablet or all I am sending a metal cover to some customers who already purchased the adapter to get their feedback on the fit. I can not proceed until I have the answers about the fit. The clips that lock the cover to the tablet are very tricky to get exactly right since they have to fit exactly.

I also need to figure out how to create a poll or something to see how many I should make since I have not heard from many people here. I can only make what I need the first time so send that email to me if you want one. The people who sent email will be the first ones sent out. cgraves256@optonline.net

Once I know how many to make I will have them made and shipped right away. I may also have a pre-order page this week for anyone who want to be sure the receive one from the first orders.

I am glad you like it. Remember to always open the minisd slot cover before removing or inserting the Full size SD card. Just open it you do not have to take the adapter out. This is the way the tablet knows if the card is in or is being removed. I may have left this out of the first instructions sheets I sent out.

I will have a leather case to go with the tablet with the adapter and metal cover installed soon. The Leather case can also be used with the Mugen extended battery. I will post photos of it soon. It allows for easy access to the tablet without removing it from the case.

Thanks again for your purchase

So far I have not figured out how to install a compact flash. This would have been better but I do not know of a chip-set that will work with the tablet and a CF reader.

I am working on as I said before a second SD card reader that works with the tablet trough USB.

I have also discovered how to possibly add a second SD card to the SD card bus but you can only access one of them at a time. This mean you would not be able to copy between them and you would have to switch them with a slide switch.

It may be possible to eliminate the slide switch and select each card through software but I am not sure yet. This is just on the drawing board but it should work

I am interested in this useful product, but would like some clarification please before sending email regarding my interest in the new metal cover model.

If I understand correctly, the metal cover will be thinner than the plastic cover which is for the Mugen extended battery, right?

So, if that's correct, the metal cover will allow me to use one SD card?

Later on, you might release a (2) SD card version?

With your SD adapter, I will no longer be able to use the microSD slot?

Thanks for your providing this product and your help with my questions.

Yes, it is thinner than the plastic cover that comes with the MUGEN extended battery by about 3mm.

Yes, you would be able to us one full size SD card and store 2 additional cards

If this sell well I will continue to make products for the N810 tablet and one would be a 2 SD card with a switch to switch between them. The other would be a second card using the USB port with a switch to turn it on and off. I even have a 2MP camera that will work but I need a USB driver and software for the tablet.

No, you will not be able to use the miniSD card slot unless you remove the MiniSD part of the adapter. The cable is long enough for this without removing the complete adapter. But I do not think there would be any reason to remove it. Also you can use any card type with an adapter.

Thanks for you interest

Just wanted to tell the community that I had a chance to sample the beta unit of the metal cover. The Beta unit looked so nice, I cannot wait to see what the final production unit looks like.. Nice brushed finish that gives you a little extra grip on the device while holding and typing, very nice touch.

Sooooo much nicer than the Mugen cover... I'm really hoping he sells a good number of these adapters with the covers, cause I want to nudge him to make a slightly larger version to go over the Mugen battery. :D

Once again craves1 fantastic job!!!!

I'm currently caught in a bit of a quandary.

I want to get the Mugen battery (& cover), but I also want to get this SD adapter. If I buy now, I end up with 2 covers I won't use, or 3 if a Mugen replacement materializes.

If I don't buy now, I may not even get the SD adapter, much less the replacement Mugen cover ....

Well, I am heading out next week travelling for work... i got the mugen battery cause i spend a LOT of time on planes and in airports and the stock battery only gave me 4 hours or so of watching recorded tv or movies.. This will be my first trip with the mugen battery, so i will lwt you know what I think of the purchase.. if i don't see much gain, im going back to the normal battery..

klatham 2008-11-16 07:58

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

Knowing if the Mugen battery lives up to its claims would make the decision easier, so, yes, please let me (us) know how it goes!

Though, I'm quickly convincing myself that a few extra covers is a small price to pay for the N810 to become my "main machine". OK, I exaggerate, it won't replace my quad-core server ... but I am likely to spend more time with it than the server!

Ken

P.S. Besides, spending that money will motivate me to find the time to set up full-blown Debian! ;)
