2006 option to extend memory question

Let me first appologize in advance if this seems to rudimentory for people, but I'd like to ask first.

I was reading previously that by extended the swap file memory onto the RSMCC that you would lose the ability to browse to the card with a Windows PC. I use this feature alot, as I use Windows, so I resisted the temptation. Does anyone know if this would still be the case by using the built in feature that comes with the update? If I extended the swap file to the memory stick, do I lose the ability to browse to it when I'm plugged into my Windows PC?

Thank you all for taking the time with me..

David

Well, accessing memory card using SSH protocol looks much more convenient for a number of reasons:
1. You can copy files from/to PC and use them from the device at the same time
2. You can manage your files using wifi connection and don't need to plug usb cable

Probably you can try installing 'openssh' or 'dropbear' on the device and using WinSCP to access your files from Windows.

I have installed OS 2006 today and have extended the memory using the standard feature and it makes no difference to WinXP's ability to read the existing data on the card via USB connection at all. (All very painless, can see the .swap file at 65.536Kb)

I think the reason that people didn't like the swap file (vs. swap partition) is that when you plug-in via USB, your swap file is disabled until you disconnect the USB cable. So while you're transferring files, you don't have swap.

While I almost always use scp to transfer files, I still use the USB cable when I'm at work (and have no wifi access).

Brad.
