Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Hi LurkerN,
I'm glad that you find phonelink usefull. I'll try and answer your questions : - display stored text messages : I should really work on that one as it seems that a lot of people would like this feature ... but it's no simple task - I don't think MMS are supported by gnokki (the backend to phonelink) - I never considered transforming phonelink into an applet or widget : I don't think phonelink should have the bluetooth stay connected and the main window is quite full already : I don't know if it would scale down very well ... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I like the idea of a home applet. Scaling it down should be possible when it's just an extension to the main app. You just need a text input, a combobox or a button to select a contact and a send button. I think it would be enough for a first proof-of-concept :)
You're doing a good job by the way!! EDIT: If you can offer me some kind of api to phonelink I could support you with this task |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I'll see what I can do ...
And, sorry but there is not such thing as an API for phonelink yet but that's a good start for building it ... |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
phonelink already fires a DBus signal when receiving an SMS
I suppose I could add a DBus service to send an SMS ... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Bongo stated exactly what I was thinking for an applet. If at least the display of incoming texts on the tablet could be implemented, an applet would most easily and efficiently serve the purpose of replying to those messages (hope that made sense). So the icon notifies of an incoming text message, the user clicks said icon to bring up the message and a reply field. Type the reply, press Enter; the applet interface hides itself so the user can get back to other fun stuff.
As for the concern for keeping the bluetooth connection alive, my Nokia 6301 is constantly lighting up the display with connect/disconnect notices. There is no way to turn off this behavior. I cannot yet say how this affects battery life, but it is already an annoyance. Anyways, I thought bluetooth inherently has power-saving features? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I would love to be able to receive automated text messages on my N810 from my business server, which are in the form of links, which would launch the browser when clicked and take me to the relevant web page on the N810. That would be real cool.
I'm in the US, am a Sprint customer, and currently have a Sprint HTC Touch, which I can't seem to get to work with Gnokii Gconf. Do I need a different phone? Different carrier, which I ask because Sprint doesn't carrry Nokia devices. Any other tips to help me implement this with Phonlink? Thanks |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
LG Shine here. Not working with Phonelink. Gnokii config installed.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
How do you retrieve the phone's mac address? I have an Ericcsson TM506
I'm trying to make phonelink work, but I guess I cannot even run gnokii successfully. |
