thanks to everyone !
Who would be willing to update the wiki page with this usefull information ? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
i went ahead and did a dump of my SE Z710 using sdptool (why its not included on the tablet i have no idea about), and found these uses for 9rfcomm channels...
1: obex syncml client 2: dial-up networking 3: serial port 4: hands-free gateway 5: headset gateway 6: obex object push 7: obex file transfer 8: obex irmc sync server 9: obex phonebook server ymmv, but its starting to smell as if those are standardized somewhere. but i could not find it after some quick googling so... |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
is there any way I can use the dialpad during a connected call to send tones (responses) to my phone? - I often have to respond to automated phone menus and I'm trying to use phonelink w/my n810 without having to touch my cell phone.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Sorry but no.
The NIT is not a sound device for your phone with gnokii and phonelink. You'll have to wait for the proper 2 way support of Bluetooth HSP/A2DP/AVRCP for that ! Fred |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I have a Sony Ericsson TM506, and N800. I can send/receive message with no problem but when I try to make a call from my N800, I got a message "Can't dial the phone:The given memory location is invalid." Any idea?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
What are your gnokii-gconf settings ?
Did you check the gnokii.org site for compatibility with your phone ? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I use phone model -> AT , rfcomm channels 2. It is a new phone, so not that many people use it with phonelink yet. Just hope someone have an idea.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
fredoll,
I am indebted to you for giving my tablet new life in my continuously changing device repertoire! My tablet has been mostly unused because I kept planning on compromising with a smartphone as its replacement. But the compromise would have been too great at this point. And there are still a few advantages to keeping phone and internet device separate. A few questions/suggestions for future development: Would it be possible for Phonelink to pull text messages from the phone for storage & display on the tablet? Are MMS features in the works? Have you considered converting Phonelink into an applet and/or desktop widget? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Hi LurkerN,
I'm glad that you find phonelink usefull. I'll try and answer your questions : - display stored text messages : I should really work on that one as it seems that a lot of people would like this feature ... but it's no simple task - I don't think MMS are supported by gnokki (the backend to phonelink) - I never considered transforming phonelink into an applet or widget : I don't think phonelink should have the bluetooth stay connected and the main window is quite full already : I don't know if it would scale down very well ... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I like the idea of a home applet. Scaling it down should be possible when it's just an extension to the main app. You just need a text input, a combobox or a button to select a contact and a send button. I think it would be enough for a first proof-of-concept :)
You're doing a good job by the way!! EDIT: If you can offer me some kind of api to phonelink I could support you with this task |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I'll see what I can do ...
And, sorry but there is not such thing as an API for phonelink yet but that's a good start for building it ... |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
phonelink already fires a DBus signal when receiving an SMS
I suppose I could add a DBus service to send an SMS ... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Bongo stated exactly what I was thinking for an applet. If at least the display of incoming texts on the tablet could be implemented, an applet would most easily and efficiently serve the purpose of replying to those messages (hope that made sense). So the icon notifies of an incoming text message, the user clicks said icon to bring up the message and a reply field. Type the reply, press Enter; the applet interface hides itself so the user can get back to other fun stuff.
As for the concern for keeping the bluetooth connection alive, my Nokia 6301 is constantly lighting up the display with connect/disconnect notices. There is no way to turn off this behavior. I cannot yet say how this affects battery life, but it is already an annoyance. Anyways, I thought bluetooth inherently has power-saving features? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I would love to be able to receive automated text messages on my N810 from my business server, which are in the form of links, which would launch the browser when clicked and take me to the relevant web page on the N810. That would be real cool.
I'm in the US, am a Sprint customer, and currently have a Sprint HTC Touch, which I can't seem to get to work with Gnokii Gconf. Do I need a different phone? Different carrier, which I ask because Sprint doesn't carrry Nokia devices. Any other tips to help me implement this with Phonlink? Thanks |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
LG Shine here. Not working with Phonelink. Gnokii config installed.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
What settings have you tried ?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
How do you retrieve the phone's mac address? I have an Ericcsson TM506
I'm trying to make phonelink work, but I guess I cannot even run gnokii successfully. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
If you have declared your phone in the phone Control Panel Applet
Gnokii-gconf will retrieve its Mac-Address automatically if the information is not setted when you open the (gnokii-gconf) applet. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Quote:
ok it retrieves it, but it says 'fonction nt yet implemented you'll have to retrieve the bt mac address yourself' it says this when i try to load .gnokiirc file. When i try to identify the phone it identifies as an ericcsson z780. i am clueless as to how the prg works, am i supposed to install something else? do i have to hit that button? 'load gnokiirc'? i searched the web for instructions but did not find any. thanks. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
if there is a Mac Address in the field you're fine
then you should try and find the right model : try with AT and the right rfcomm channel (from the wiki it looks like 2 or 7 might work for se) and that's it. Then launch phonelink and try to dial or send a sms |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad

the phone Model is set to "AT" the mac address is correct. I tried both channel 2 and 7. When I open the phonelink app, it says "This driver doesn't support call signaling. (command failed)" then when I try to dial it says: "Telephone interface init failed: Command failed. Quitting" Any ideas? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
well my phone is set up for thethering so in gnokii config the BT MAC is there and correct. hitting the "get phone" button. brings up an error about the function not being available. Fine.
Phone model: Well at this point I've tried: AT D211 SiM/USM SX1 AT 2711 2731 12 20 hitting the "identify phone" button results in an error"gn_lib_phone_open: command failed" rfcomm has been set to 1. That's it. Of course Phonelink can't do squat. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
update: setting Rtcomm to 3 causes Gnokii and phonelink to activate a connection to the phone and then error out with : "Telephone interface failed: Unknown error"
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Is there a list of instructions somewhere on how to correctly setup this program?
Thank you |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
OK so I've successfully had my phone SE TM506 connect to the phone link app. the mistake I was making was I had marked the checkbox for Load the gnokiirc.
The phone connects, says waiting for call. I can receive a call. I am unable to use both the BT headset at the same time, even though I have my phone setup for multiple BT connections. I've tried all the channels, the only one that really works is channel 4 and 5 also connects to the phone, but can't really make it work. I am also unable to dial a number from the N800. I get some errors: "Can't dial the phone. The memory location is invalid" Any ideas? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Sorry, I was sleeping :)
I should have told you to uncheck the load Gnokiirc ... What model and rfcomm are you using ? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Quote:
I have an N800 and the phone is a TM506 SE for rfcomm: 2 connects quietly and receives calls, but when I try to dial gives me the error about memory location. Also although it receives calls, when I have my BT headset connected as well, when receiving a call I hear nothing, unless I switch the sound into the phone manually from my phone. 4 connects making the phone beep and light up, and when I try to dial still gives the error about memory location. 5 makes the phone connect, light up and beep twice, then it disconnects immediately and gives error: This driver doesn't support call signaling. Everything else doesn't work. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Anyone able to use this program with a TM506?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I have the same problem (ie can't dial but can send SMS) with my C902.
But I suppose we'll have to wait for gnokii to support them ... I use model AT and RFComm 2 |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Ok, I have a HTC Touch Pro with wm 6.1.
I am not having any luck. I read somewhere that this software only supports Nokia phones and that other phones would be add later. Is my phone supported? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Your phone is supported IF it is supported by gnokii ...
You might try the AT model and find out the rfcomm port by trial and error or sdp-tool There was a wiki page about supported phones but I can't seem ti find it anymore since the move to t.m.o ... Fred |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
yes i was on the wiki site, i don't see where my device is supportted or not.
as far as trail and error < tried that. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I saw that some windowsMobile phone are supported via AT on gnokii Wiki ...
in gnokii-gconf is your phone's Mac Address filled ? choose model AT set rfcomm to 1 save try phonelink if it doesn't work change rfcomm to 2 and try again ... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
WORKED!!
Thanks....am sending sms but nothing is happening. But I could see where my phone and tablet are communicating. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
I'm having trouble getting it to work on my Samsung SCH-U900 (Flipshot), on Verizon. If anybody has any ideas, it would be grealty appreciated.
Using rfcomm 8 I can get it to see my phone. The problem with this is that whenever I make a call, it shows up as a data call (Modem @ 14.4k is what it shows, with Tx and Rx, and total bit/byte information). Then when I use to send an SMS, it does not send to the recipient. rfcomm 3 and 4 make the phone say "Bluetooth Audio Device disconnected" and the N810 says "unknown error, well better than nothing!" Thanks in advance. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
could it be that verizon have messed around with the firmware?
i kinda recall reading that they had done such a thing before on some other phone to stop bluetooth file transfers... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] phonelink 1.4 : Dial Pad
Well I know for a fact I cannot send pictures via bluetooth to an AT&T phone, which can accept pictures via bluetooth (her phone is a sony erricson, and she was using bluetooth to send and receive pictures earlier yesterday).
Wouldn't surprise me if verizon did something of the sort but I'm just looking for help :P |
