n800 battery life survey
My n800 is slightly over one year old, and the battery performance has recently dropped. I now get only 1.5 to 2 hrs of continuous usage from it (i.e. surfing or watching video) after a full charge. My experience with other Lithium-Ion batteries is that they last at least 2 years before declining.
Note: I haven't installed any new applications recently and didn't upgrade to Diablo. I'm curious how long other n800 owners' batteries lasted before they noticed a performance drop. |
Re: n800 battery life survey
There is a good thread on this with a lot of data.
I don't care to look it up. |
Re: n800 battery life survey
I am not willing to spend hours seeing how long my battery lasts, but my impression is that my original N800 battery is not lasting as long, and here's a warning for those of you trying to decide on whether to buy cheap Hong Kong knockoffs or authentic Nokia batteries -- my genuine Nokia battery seems to be deteriorating faster than the knockoffs. So, please, don't take a chance when buying a battery -- in the interest of safety, buy disreputable knockoffs!

Re: n800 battery life survey
Typical usage is not the same for everyone, so you'd need to have some kind of benchmark+batterystatus log to do a comparison. But watching movies seems to drain the batteries more than other uses.

Re: n800 battery life survey
3 hours surfing the web with screen brightness on 1/5.
5 hours listening to music via ear plugs with offline mode and screen locked my n800 is only 4 months old. and i dont use diablo i use the one below that what ever that is. |

FWIW I found diablo to improve battery life considerably but at the cost of a non-functional default email application (modest). YMMV....... |

Re: n800 battery life survey
Yep, under the latest Diablo battery life has tremendously improved.
My recent test of continuous web surfing with about 40% brightness: Nokia battery: > 6 hours Chinese ebay battery: 5 hours I didn't test watching videos, but that should be much shorter. MP3 listening with switched off display should be longer, though. |
Re: n800 battery life survey
Nothing scientific (and no surprise) but I only recently realised just how much more battery life I get when off-line. In future I intend to download any long pages for off-line reading.
BTW: Check if your connection power setting and drop it to 10mW if your router signal is strong and reliable. |
Re: n800 battery life survey
I bought my N800 when it came out, that is early/mid January 2007. The battery has been performing as new up to about August this year, I now notice that it starts to drop a bar slightly earlier than it used to. Still quite good though. It'll be interesting to see how it's working in half a year's time.

What really makes a difference though is power-saving mode, and that depends a lot on your wi-fi router. With the one at work I can stay connected continuously all day and not a drop on the bar, with one of the cheaper wi-fi routers I own I can only stay on for a couple of hours before I have to go find a charger. |
