If it was only 50$ it might be reasonable. The problem is the 3 50's: * 50$ more. * 50g more. * 50 minutes less. |

me too! I now carry three items- company phone, Nokia 6151 for 3G and N770. I've been forced to buy a basic 3G phone to use my N770 out of home WLAN connection. |
Re: Next Nokia tablet definitely has 3G
Nokia tried to get 'access everywhere' with the WiMax edition. That didn't work out so well for the 99.9% of us who do not live in an area with WiMax coverage. Heck - I live in an area without cell phone coverage (upstate NY), so I think that tells you what I'm looking for in the next N.
I certainly don't want to have to pay for a 3G radio if I'm not going to use it. But if the radio adds $50 to the device but releasing 2 different devices (one with and one without) makes them $50 more expensive also, I'll take the radio and just not use it. I do however share a previously expressed concern about functionality. More and more applications rely on an internet connection to function. Whether it's for activation, start-up or constant use, my concern is that there will be applications that will be useless without a connection. That would be a bummer. I barely use the 770 I have (running '08), but I'll admit I'm a geek and as long as the boss allows me, I might go for the next one even if it has a radio I won't be able to use. As long as the other features make up for it, I don't consider the expense of the radio a loss. Just part of the package. |
Re: Next Nokia tablet definitely has 3G
This might end up making the next generation n-series tablet more expensive but I don't see how it would block people from doing what they would want to do with it. Are people thinking this on the grounds of driver incompatibility with the 3G sim card socket?
On the plus side, I would say that Nokia would want to do deals with the likes of 3 and Vodaphone to bundle this next gen Tablet with their mobile broadband deals. |
Re: Next Nokia tablet definitely has 3G
Eh, I'll never use 3G. I don't even have a data plan, and at the rates they charge here, I don't want one.
I had the same opinion on GPS and WiMax. Don't forget the kitchen sink, too, guys. ;) As long as the price stays inline with the previous devices, I doubt most people will care one way or the other, really. Price-point is the real name-of-the-game. At least, it was for me. |
Re: Next Nokia tablet definitely has 3G
Don't forget the potential new customers, and added 24/7 connectivity which aids functionality and potential. Besides that, the device will have a lot additions as well. Ofcourse it is going to be expensive while the older models drop in price, but you get a lot for that. The question isn't 'I will or will not buy it because of 3G' the question is 'is the whole package worth the price'. This is different from N810 versus N810WME.
