I did skim more than I intended, and assumed you intended some sort of poll to "prove" how "broken" the process was. I'm sorry.

I'm not particularly hopeful about people's abilities to diagnose their own symptoms here, and don't think a poll is going to be the most useful of approaches. I'd rather just try to figure it out person-to-person (as I've been doing elsewhere), than shotgun a list a guessed causes and get people to tick boxes.

Spoke too soon... Got the update notification again today and watching traffic here I found that reflashing actually took me backward. Took the chance again and got into the reboot loop again. Only thing I can think may be contributing to this is leaving the mini SD card in place during update?

Re: Seamless Software Upgrade v4.2008.36-5 is out!

Leaving the mini SD card in should not, in and of itself, interfere with SSU.

It worked pre-diablo flawlessly, and now, even after two useless updates later doesn't. Oh yea, I keep forgetting, we're talking about software developers (oops, EXCUSE ME, "engineers") here. this happens with mine too. gmail pop3

Virtually nothing is working now! I have one active SSH session that is kind of working.......

Is there a way to install what was removed using apt-get and the debs I have left in /var/cache/apt/archives ?

No rebooting loops, no removing batteries, no reflashing the tablet, and no real issues... reading here, one might think that I was the exception to the norm -- but I'm willing to bet I'm just being more vocal about my experience than the rest of the 'silent majority'.

So that (and GA and several other "power-users" reporting no big issues) kind of blows away the theory that it is only power-users have this reboot-loop issue.

So let's try to find the common thread that is definitely causing some issues with many people that are not using their tablets in exotic ways.

The only things that I had on my tablet that could possibly be considered non-standard are:
1) rtcomm beta
2) chinook base and extras repos in order to install some old apps that hadn't been moved over.

Are either of these two commonalities anong other people having issues that don't fit into the "5 stages of self-doomed hackerdom" as outlined by Jaffa?

PS ... just to add that it is an N810 that I have that I had SSU issues with.

Re: Seamless Software Upgrade v4.2008.36-5 is out!

rtcomm was installed here, but i removed it partially to make sure i had enough free space (libpurple wanted pidgin-data, and takes up about 20MB).

chinook base and extras disabled here...

Re: Seamless Software Upgrade v4.2008.36-5 is out!

Received the update message about an hour ago. Had to clear some space for it otherwise nothing unusual. AFAIK I don't have rtomm beta but may have chinook base and extra repos, tho I don't think I have Chinook installed. I'm getting the "won't shut down - pulled battery - start loop". I've got 2X 4Gb SDHC cards anyone ideas as to what else could be common?

...which, of course, was supposed to be an example list; not definitive (if I knew, I could fix the problems ;-))

rtcomm-beta's an interesting idea. qole had that installed at the summit, might prove to be a data point.
