Re: Seamless Software Upgrade v4.2008.36-5 is out!
Another positive experience....
Couldn't see the update on my dual boot when booting from SD, so; apt-get clean apt-get upgrade reboot no change in version numbers, sort of expected that. reboot to flash update via app manager reboot run penguinbaits install-tools (forget that I didn't uninstall last time, uninstall install-tools, reinstall install tools.. 8-) reboot choose SD version numbers updated... all stable, and microb is noticeably faster on gmail, youtube, .... thanks to all who have taken the time to post their results here... watching and learning from all of your examples and help extra thanks to penguinbait and fanoush you guys rock. |

I still don't understand how updating flash (internal build in memory) would update a boot from SD partition. Maybe the kernel yes. But individual packages should have to be updated on both the flash and SD correct?

Re: Seamless Software Upgrade v4.2008.36-5 is out!
With regards to my previous post. After playing around with my N810 and router (N1 Vision), my N810 will only connect and actually work with WPA2 enabled, not WPA. It worked fine before.
Any ideas? |

Does that mean it is safe to upgrade the sd and leave the flash version as is? (Actually, I tried once to run the update from the sd booted version and got a "corrupt installation file" error after the download. What's with that??) |

In fact, if you look at my post immediately above, you'll see that you *should not* update flash first. Your system may be tricked into thinking that the SD has thereby been already updated. |
Re: Seamless Software Upgrade v4.2008.36-5 is out!
i think you missed the first part of my post:
"apt-get clean apt-get upgrade reboot no change in version numbers, sort of expected that. reboot to flash" the apt-get upgrade par t of this is where my SD was updated... watched it download 33mb of stuff including microb, etc, install, setup, the works. All I meant to say was that even though I could not see the SSU in app manager, I was able to upgrade from the cli, and that after doing the upgrade to my SD, the version numbers had not changed in control panel, about product screen. I have verifired that the upgraded software version in SD and flash match by comparing the upgrade output log I made in SD to the app manager log from flash. all still working well... |
Re: Seamless Software Upgrade v4.2008.36-5 is out!
FYI. 3 (not 4) different flash partitions are being updated (I think):
the linux kernel the bootstrap OS referred to as initfs and the runtime OS referred to as rootfs If the boot loader partition needed to be updated this would have been a reflash. For mulit-booters, rootfs is the only thing that is on your SD. All runtime OS's share the kernel and the initfs and that is why you're seeing version numbers change before you update your SD OS's. You need to update and then re-fanoush for all of your runtime OS partitions. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have an mtd diagram considering the sophistication of this community. Go to the OpenWRT.org project for some more embedded linux info. Ignorance has turned out not to be bliss. |
