Re: MPlayer which version is suitable

A new build mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.15 was released:
* Tao Huang's patch for motion compensation functions optimization: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/...il/028074.html
* Now MPlayer remembers sound volume settings when using gst sound output module, also '-ao gst:volume=?' suboption can be used to set sound volume from the command line
* Both minimize window and close window buttons should work fine on Nokia 770
* Taskbar icon for MPlayer window is now visible on N800

Packages for both Nokia 770 and N800 are available.

Re: MPlayer which version is suitable

Just an interesting observation. Right now there are more downloads of the latest MPlayer build for N800 than for Nokia 770 at garage downloads page. I wonder if N800 already outnumbers Nokia 770 in spite of being available for much less time?

It is also interesting to know if mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.15 can be considered stable enough to get uploaded to extras repository and replace previous version. Nobody complained about any regressions yet, so I guess everything should be ok.

Re: MPlayer which version is suitable

as far as I'm concerned I only have a 770, but have tried to use the hacker version of IT2007. That's why I have downloaded 800-version of mplayer. 800- version does not work on hacker version though

MPlayer uses hardware specific optimizations, so it is a bad idea to use 800-version of mplayer on 770. It just will not work at all, and even if it worked, it would be slower than the build specifically tuned for 770 hardware.

Did you try 770-version of mplayer on hacker version of IT2007, does it work?

Re: MPlayer which version is suitable

Sound sync problems I was having a few versions ago are gone. :)
I think they had something to do with the VBR MP3 encoding of the audio track. This was on a N800.

I'll try the same files on my 770 HackerEdition when I find my MMCmobile card.

Re: MPlayer which version is suitable

I have a N800 and have been using the r13 build for a while now with no problems. However, upon upgrading to r15, my videos no longer play. It appears to be an audio problem, though I'm not sure. Here's the output from the logfile:

The video (an episode of arrested development) was first ripped from the DVD, then converted via ffmpeg. I have had no problems viewing these using r13, but but r15 definitely seems to have a problem. I'm pretty sure I tried r14 too, with the same results as r14.

Hope this helps....

It can be related to this change:

Please provide a small video sample which can be used to reproduce the problem and I'll fix it. Thanks.

Re: MPlayer which version is suitable

I am having problems playing a few MP4 video files with MPlayer on my N800 also. The video and audio stutter during playback. This has happened on R14 and R15 of MPlayer. I have not tried R13. These files play fine in the built in Media Player and in Canola.
I originally converted these files from .mov files.
Here are the video file details of one of the problem videos...

MP4 video with AAC audio is a known problem, most likely it never did work, check more details here:

Right now I'm most interested in fixing regressions (bugs which did not exist in previous versions but appeared later).
