emelfm2 is a really good file manager WITH text editor. No need to mess with command line AT all. just type
Code:

sudo gainroot
emelfm2

and you have root file manager!

I never even thought of running Xterm first and then running emelfm from inside after I had root. I was trying to run root from emelfm.

*** I just realized running emelfm2 with root will make changing the startup screens so much easier as well. ***

This forum is am amazing resource of information and intelligence.

At first I was a little disillusioned with my N810 for all the bugs and the difficulty you have to go through to customize it. But This forum has been a godsend.

Even if the N900 is plagued with crashes every 30 seconds I'll still buy it as long as this forum is still around.

BacklightTimeout=10

after you are done, go to /etc/init.d and run ' ./mce restart ' and there you go, longer lighting time.

How about if the ambient light sensor decides there is enough light around and dims the keyboard when the truth is that there isn't? I have a dim light coming often from behind my back and it makes keypad go dark although light is far from sufficient.

Is there a way say to my N900: "No matter what the lighting conditions, just keep the keypad lit"? Or to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor?

Ha! Knew that this trick was around here somewhere - thanks! :)
