Rotation in OS2008 under new SSU update
Apparently, after reading some threads, it appears that the new OS2008 SSU fries rotation. Anyone found a fix for it yet, or will there need to be a new kernel patch made for it altogether?
If anyone does find a fix for it, please post it in this thread. |
Re: Rotation in OS2008 under new SSU update
Install sliderotate. In settings (found in Extras menu) you should choose to "reinstall xrandr support".

UPDATE: Nevermind, just had to edit mce.ini Now if I can only get sliderotate to auto rotate when I open the thumb keyboard, since I have it set up to automatically open the thumb keyboard instead of the regular keyboard. |

Maybe someone can figure a way to map the N800 opening the thumb keyboard to some kind of "software" equivalent of the N810 opening the slide keyboard. Just some speculation. Either way, it would probably need to be either installed as some kind of daemon to map the thumb keyboard to the slide keyboard, or to code sliderotate to do that. |
Re: Rotation in OS2008 under new SSU update
Yes, I am necro-ing this, because I couldn't find a newer thread.
I saw someone said to edit mce.ini to get the power button back to normal. Not all of us can run intricate systems in Terminal. WHERE is mce.ini, and how can I edit it? |
Re: Rotation in OS2008 under new SSU update
mce.ini is in /etc/mce/ (for future reference, (almost) all system configuration is in /etc/, and all user-specific configuration is in your home directory, usually in hidden folders (those starting with a ".", as in, /home/user/.gnome2/)
The file is commented somewhat, but it's still reasonably technical, so if you're not used to editing config files manually, you may want to ask someone else (maybe on IRC) for this specific issue. To edit it, you'll need root access, and the default command-line text editor is called vi. Thus, the command: rootsh vi /etc/mce/mce.ini would open up the config file. Be warned, however, that vi is NOT newbie-friendly, and you probably won't have fun with it. If you install Leafpad, from the Extras repo, you should be able to launch that from the command line in a similar fashion (I think) and edit it in a graphical program. |
Re: Rotation in OS2008 under new SSU update
Okay, I installed rootsh, as a "just in case" thing several days ago.
I also have Leafpad, on the recommendation over "notes" Substituting "leafpad" for "vi" ........ SUCCESS! Now, I want to make a copy of the file first so I don't utterly screw it up. I'm making it onto my memory card. Now to begin editing... Changed short and double actions back to defaults. (Menu and disabled, respectively) Save. Exit Leafpad. Exit Terminal. Press power button once. NOTHING. Double press. Menu. What did I do wrong? |

Rebooting to test after reboot.

Re: Rotation in OS2008 under new SSU update
YAY! IT WORKED!
I ended up having ot edit it twice, and reboot twice as well. I think it was that I hit "save as..." and used that to copy a version onto my card beforehand, and it just edited that instead. I rebooted to see if it would work (though it was editing the original), and it didn't. So I went through the whole process again, this time without "save as...", just "save" when I was done. Thank you, Jaem, for helping a hopeless n00b. |
