Re: Announce: Knots - a video streaming app for non-windows users
thanks! with the update knots can parse the channels from vdr.
When i start a channel i get the audio only. no picture. there is no error message in the knots server log. one thing is displayed, when starting knots from a terminal on the N800: Code:
[MENU] Can't open menu config file: /home/user/.mplayer/menu.conf |

Re: Announce: Knots - a video streaming app for non-windows users
it works now with ts mode :)
Interresting that processor usage is significantly higher on the server when transcoding a livetv with vlc, instead of using streamdev Externremux sript that uses mencoder But anyway, Thanks a lot! |
Re: Announce: Knots - a video streaming app for non-windows users
Glad it works. I have a simple auth stuff now implemented if anyone wants to test it. It's a bit flaky but should work with manual connection. Run the command on post 61 to update the server. Then update the client. There are 3 new variables in config:
remote_auth: false local_auth: false auth_timeout: 60 Local auth is not probably useful but it's there if you want to protect your lan too. Anyone who finds the server automatically is considered local. Clients using manual connect are considered remote. To add a user run: ./scripts/auth add username password You can also whitelist a client so that it's not authenticated: ./scripts/auth add client_id To delete user or client: ./scripts/auth delete username/client_id Use it at your own risk. I will not be responsible of any breakins. And the actual streams are not authenticated so anyone can view them :( |

As soon as I have time to work out the OpenVPN server setup in dd-wrt or PPTP VPN connection on the tablet (pptp vpn is very easy to setup on dd-wrt, while with the tablet it's easier to work with OpenVPN afaik), I'll test it and report how it works. |
Re: Announce: Knots - a video streaming app for non-windows users
of course. good idea to use a secure tunnel :) i won't hijack this thread but forgive me if i ask one follow up question to stangri
i was thinking about using poptop (PPTP Server on ubuntu) and i am looking in the client issue on the N800 right now. Just one question: as i read here a patched kernel is needed, so the pppd client already available on the N800 won't work without a kernel rebuild, right? Is the kernel on fanoush's website for diablo or chinook? |
Re: Announce: Knots - a video streaming app for non-windows users
I am running mediatomb (upnp server) on my linux box, it works ok and can transcode videos on the fly (manual setup required but works superbly). Streamtuner plays the videos without problems.

Re: Announce: Knots - a video streaming app for non-windows users
ukki, got knots working using openvpn, having access to all my media from almost anywhere is amazing, thanks once more.
What I was asking is for a way to control an analog, hardware encoding capture card, in my case a pvr-250 from hauppauge. The card can be accessed in vlc using vlc:// as a prefix. Also, do you have a non hildonized client? I find knots much nicer than mythvideo, and its ability to transcode would allow me to watch content on underpowered clients. |
