A 1.0 stable release has sufficient documentation. I think some documentation is on their webpage and wiki, as well as explained in videos.

Demos and statements of proofs-of-concepts are no documentation. Documentation needs to appear in the application, as well as on a dedicated website that has the same, and some additional information than what is included in the app.

This will not be done until the app is ready for primetime. And hopefully, it will be complete enough (an extension possibly), that a person who is unfamiliar to the app can easily reference it for needs.

Alpha version delibertly do not do documentation; its pointless as there can and usually are major changes before all coding is final (optimized).

I have no idea what he is talking about.... You don't have to press 43 buttons or something, and it is intuitive. Just SLOW as HELL.... But its alpha, so...

I didn't see any docs on the site where I downloaded fennec. - More important: I never needed any kind of documentation for any browser so far. Is fennec the first one that requires ppl. to read a manual before they start surfing? (in a way, that's what already happens: they need to explain the concept of left\right swift on first run.)

They are ofcourse not replacements, but they are an option is you want to play with it right now. The interface won't change drastically at this point.

You need documentation (or autodict experimenting) for a new kind of interface. Especially if the interface is very different. That is normal. Espcially when its mouse gestures & hidden options so the user focusses fully on the content. Run Opera. Now tell me you understood all the mouse gestures. Well, kudos, I still haven't figured 'em out (and disabled them actually). The left/right swing is explained at start up.

I never used mouse gestures - they're not compatible with the way my brain is wired. So there's features in opera I don't use. (Probably more than mouse gestures.)

What really matters though is that even in Opera (although I hardly ever use it) I immediately find the features I want. Nobody needs to explain them to me, no searching. Good UI. (Same for the browser on my S60-phone, btw, which is based on webkit AFAIK.)

Fennec, OTOH, doesn't work at all without at least a bit of explanation (swift left/right). Even more, there's still things I wasn't able to figure out like "open in new tab/window", "copy", "save image", "save page", "send to..." - probably hidden somewhere and easy if you know how, but nor obvious. Bad UI.

What's amazing, though, is the fact that nobody else seems to have found out how these things work with Fennec... No answer so far.

benny1967, the first time I use a phone, a N810, a Sharp Zaurus C1000, or (especially) an iPhone (or even a Macbook) I didn't understand how to use the interface either.

I opened Opera with the new SpeedDial and I was like... what the **** is this? First time I used Opera with mouse gestures I was like... huh, its buggy?

In the case of iPhone and Fennec these feelings arise because the interface is very much aimed at touch screen. Also, see it as an every day browser. Saving images is not something the average user does every day. Navigating, using bookmarks, typing in a URL; those are primary features. Saving an image is secondary, and is either implemented later, or not at all. I rather have a browser which renders my page correct, doesn't crash, and allows me to navigate easily that one which allows me to download something (I use wget for that anyway).

The URL bar you get Zooming by dragging the right bar to the left. Zooming happens with you click once. Its based on the HTML layout. You'll be able to zoom into text so you can read it easier using the whole screen.

S60 browser is WebKit-based indeed.

Also, if you want to use Fennec with good performance you can consider to run it on Windows/Linux/MacOS X. It works well then. You don't have touch feature, you'll have to use the mouse. I've run it with ssh -XC but the lag was too big (might been the WiFi though). YMMV.

Has anyone uninstalled Fennec A1? Ever since I uninstalled it my email app went screwy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It give me a wrong password prompt sometimes, sometimes it just says receiving without ever finishing or giving an error. Sometimes I am able to read 1 message and the next gives me a error. It doesn't auto update anymore. And sometimes it works! I'm using IMAP to gmail, and it worked flawlessly before removing Fennec.
