Re: Announce: HomeBank
Neat, I'd thought about doing this one myself to see if it's any good.
|
Re: Announce: HomeBank
hmm, i may get some use out of that ;)
|
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Just installed 'successfully', but there's nothing turning up in my Extras menu or any other part of the menu
Update : Just did a reboot, and HomeBank appeared in the Extras menu |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Installed HomeBank in N800, it seemed to go to 100% CPU Usage. Rebooted and works fine.
I have been trying to get gnucash recompiled with no luck so far. Thanks for getting this out. Some Comments Dialogs seems to need a scrollbar, otherwise some controls are not accessible Full Screen mode would be helpful |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Oh man, thanks for this app! Just in time, too, for us to keep track of all our investments...I'm hoping this is one 'bank' that won't fail:eek:

Re: Announce: HomeBank
Hi all! Thank you for your feedback! I've just uploaded a new version, changes:
* fullscreen works on two windows * add transaction now is displayed better on n800 screen If you see/use/need another window/dialog better hildonized just tell me and i'll take a look! Luca |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
great port !
need better 'preference' hildonization ad also "manage archives". thanks a lot ! |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
I like to try homebank. After installing it, I found it would not import OPX files. The error message claim OPX files are a compile option that wasn't used. What am I missing?

Re: Announce: HomeBank
It's OFX right? I don't know if it's the same.. i've never used it :) I'll try to add libofx as a dependency for the next version and ask you if you can test!

Hi! I've just uploaded a new version to extras-devel. See here for a changelog and some screenshots:
http://lucaognibene.blogspot.com/200...sion_3379.html thaibill: if you have some time to test OFX import it should work now.. if it doesn't i'll try to look deeper! Luca |

Re: Announce: HomeBank
There are still quite a few screens/dialogs that run off the bottom of the window, or where the [Cancel] (and other) buttons are placed over the top of other text and/or options on the screens. Take a stroll through the Preferences..., or Accounts... menu items, and you'll see what I mean. I'm not sure it'd be all that easy to set this up for actual use, unless you create the accounts, etc on a regular desktop and then import them into Homebank on the tablet.
I think I'd like to use this app regularly... but there's a bit more re-arrangement and/or hildonizing that needs to be done, first. |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Agree, those first few dialogs that you need to go through to set up your accounts are the only thing currently stopping me from using the app.
|
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Yeah sorry, i started using homebank months ago with my desktop and then copied over my account file to the n800.. i'll try to take a look at porting account/preference and more "first time user" windows! Stay tuned.
|
Re: Announce: HomeBank
i've just released a new version (4.0b-6). news:
* fixed account window * fixed preference window * ported from gtk_file_chooser to hildon_file_chooser update from your application manager :) Luca |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Quick work :D
Thanks! |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
eheh! Does it work fine for you? I'll wait for a (positive) reply and then do a blog post!
thank you! Luca |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
sKaBoy --
Thanks for the quick work! :) The dialogs I mentioned look much better, now! If you try to view the help file (Help | Contents), a dialog is presented that says: No suitable web browser executable could be found. Could not display the URL 'file:/usr/share/locale/index.html' ...there's a similar issue when trying the Get Help Online... and Report a Problem... links. It looks like it doesn't know how to find the tablet's browser... anyway... let me poke around in this now, and see if I can get some accounts set up! Thanks again for your work on this.... |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Great work!
I just imported a QFX file containing all 348 of my checking account transactions for the year to date. It worked perfect except that one of the import screens, where you select the account, had the buttons off the bottom of the screen. I had to use the dpad and guess where I was to select the Forward button. Try importing a QFX when no accounts have been set up to see it. I use MoneyDance in Linux on my laptop (not open source, but very good). This duplicates a lot of the functionality. I wish Homebank had a feature to password protect and encrypt an account file, especially when running it on a tablet that could easily fall into the wrong hands. |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Yep, updated fine and i can get to the buttons now :)
Niggle for the very bottom of your todo list: the horizontal scrollbar on the Manage Accounts page can be removed. |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
great app thanks
|
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Ok, it seems it's all fine.. i'll fix remaining bugs as soon as possible.. maybe this afternoon! Right now i'm trying to save some money for my wedding :)

Re: Announce: HomeBank
well well, congrats ;)

Re: Announce: HomeBank
Many thanks for having done this - it is a great programme. I have been a user of Homebank on the Amiga for many years and only stopped using it when I got my N800 in April of this year. The Amiga upload worked flawlessly and I now have complete records from 2001 until April 2008 on the N800. I am now trying to load some QIF files (from Grisbi) to bring HB up to date but am having problems with P3 of the 'Import' screens which goes off the bottom of the page and, further, when clicking on 'Import' the screen reduces in size (showing the icons on the left). V4.0b-5 is installed.
Just found another minor problem - am using 'Personal Menu' but when going to add HB to the list HB does not show up in the list of available applications - could this be due to the fact that on installing HB it does not offer any location but rather the icon shows up in the 'Extras' file on rebooting? Again many thanks for some great work - it will be good to have HB to use once again. Bill MacINTYRE |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
tso, laughing man: thank you very much!
wamjlb: i'll fix these bugs asap (i think this morning..) and i'll upload a new version to extras-devel (and maybe promote it to extras..) Luca |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
ok, should be fixed now! I've just uploaded to maemo extras-devel a new version. Changelog:
* no splash (faster startup) * fixed import window * fixed desktop file (now it works with personal menu) thank you very much for your support! |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Where can i find source code? Link from project page is incorrect. ( http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=use....git;a=summary )
|
Re: Announce: HomeBank
It seems that freedesktop removed my archive.. It's been a long time since i last hacked on homebank :)
You can find the source for the latest version here: http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p...ce/h/homebank/ ciao Luca |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
After days of struggling, I finally made the first port of version 4.2.1 based on sKaBoy's 4.0 port (with great thanks).
Code is hosted on http://code.google.com/p/homebank-maemo/ and the first deb package is http://code.google.com/p/homebank-ma...emo1_armel.deb During the porting, I fount these questions. 1. Icons in status context seems not supported in maemo, I simply move them to actions context. 2. The row-activated signal of treeview seems not well supported that selection can not be fetched correctly when getting row-activated signal, I changed to hildon_gtk_tree_view with HILDON_UI_MODE_EDIT, but row-activated signal is not fired any more. 3. A GREAT number of UIs are not finger-friendly and wvga-friendly, add transection, statistics, preferences, etc. I have got no idea to solve this. Because the UI design in homebank is hard coded in C++, and I don't know how to modify them in a easy and efficient way other than rewrite the UI codes. Any suggestion? Any way, it's a working port that runs on my N900 and I can use the same xhb file on my laptop and N900 :) |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
Please post a few screenshots of this application. I am looking for a simple app to track deposits and expenses. I know there are other applications such as Buddy but I am looking for simplicity. Is this application optified?

You can find that the account page and the statistics page are quite ugly enough..... |
Re: Announce: HomeBank

Re: Announce: HomeBank
Currently I have all my financial datas on gnucash but I'm ready to export it to homebank wether this app is working stable.
1) Is this release in stable enought despite uses libraries from devel? 2) Do you plan to commit it in maemo repositories? Actually I have only packages from extras, not testing nor devel, in my only phone n900 because I need it everyday. This would be the only app I would install from devel if it's safe enought. Thanks for your work. |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
I have installed it and I would like to use it for daily expenses so I can help you testing.
But at the moment I find inserting amount behave really strange as depending on position it deletes me number ahead or just ignore my input. Furthermore I can't insert any new entry in cash account. And in order to load a file from memory card you have to run in a terminal: homebank /media/mmc1/full_path_to/homebank_file Do you plan to update software while I keep testing it? |
Re: Announce: HomeBank
i cant find homebank in app mgr?
