@Texrat + @penguinbait: Yours kids are preteens, right? Wait till they are teenagers.................You have been warned :p

@qole: I think you hit the jackpot with postings/appreciation/thanks. I think that is very true and also in real life situations. About the low self-esteem, i am NOT quite sure about it, maybe it is there I do not seem to recognize it

@ga: I dont care what the title say, or even there is any meaning....I envy your 94 votes. I tried sooooo very hard :( and even try to vote for myself,.... oh well

bun

94, he is still going up, it was 87 the other day, hehe

I got both bun, 10, 11, 14, and 16 (just got his permit) :(

I have a five year old boy that tries to bend me like steel on a daily basis. But no matter, I've just learned The Zohan pretzel technique. Also good for curing belly aches.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing, but I uncontrollably laugh when he lies, and he usually laughs with me, but he doesn't get upset. That's his confirming tell. If I accidentally laugh when he's telling the truth or being serious, he's usually not laughing or smiling.

Yeah, 5 is still in the manipulative stage. Boys usually move past that after starting school.

Teen years are the dig-in-and-defy period. We had a nice little blowup about that in the Rat household just this morning. My 2 heathens do not yet grasp the concept of Mother's Day... and apparently the wrath they subsequently incur from dad has been worth it for years.

Let's see how that plays at 18. They've been warned. :D

Yeah, it seems to be a guarantee that the teen years will be interesting. I've watched plenty of friends go through them, and though I'm thoroughly enjoying the present, I'm actually looking forward to it.

Funny thing is, at this stage, my birthday feels more like Mother's Day.

In general, I don't read much physiological psycho babble stuff, but I do think recent "late adolescent frontal lobe development" findings tell a good story. Specifically in the area of "executive" functions. Here's an NIMH link from the top of my search. What's also interesting is 40 is the average age for our last cranial suture to fuse. What could that all mean?

No arm twisting, but feel free to elaborate.

Exactly. At 18, you'll have society's Law to further bolster your Law. :)

What I mean is they have determined that being stubborn and foolishly argumentive is somehow paying off for them... rather than picking their battles wisely and making sure they have reason and fact on their side.

I don't see any benefit for them, but surely they must, given their persistence at the Someday We Will Grind The Old Man Down game.

I figure that somewhere in their 20s a switch will click and they'll go, "oh man did we waste a lot of opportunities by keeping dad pissed off..."

Thanks for elaborating. I'll always listen to the perspective of parents with teenagers.
