Delayed Reboot when Booting to SD
I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, it seems so tantalizingly familiar, I just can't find it when searching.
I just set up multiboot on a newer N800. Before this, the N800 did not have any rebooting issues. Now, after a few minutes (3-6 minutes?), the N800 reboots. It doesn't matter whether I am using the OS in flash, or the SD clone. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, either. The tablet can be online or offline. The tablet simply reboots without warning. I've fsck'ed the SD partition, but that's not the problem, especially since it reboots from flash, too. (EDIT: I'm using qwerty12's modded kernel...) Any ideas? EDIT2: Seems to occur only after a few minutes of IDLE. If I use the tablet, it doesn't reboot. Also, there seems to be a component of charging involved, too. That is, if I unplug the charger, it doesn't reboot. |
Re: Delayed Reboot when Booting to SD
I'm having a very similar problem... It seems that randomly during the day, my tablet will shutdown, causing me to have to start it back up. Sometimes it will reboot instead of just shutting down. Would love to hear if anyone has a solution!

Re: Delayed Reboot when Booting to SD
It could be
a) something that eats memory, when out of memory it reboots. I've seen this. Or b) there's a watchdog daemon there which reboots the device if it decides that something's not responding. I haven't seen this for a very long time, but in the old times, at least, it sometimes rebooted my N800 due to a problem where the DSP driver didn't respond (that particular DSP problem was fixed with the first OS2007 update) . I guess the watchdog daemon is still there, even though it doesn't see the need to reboot my N800 anymore. Or c) something I haven't thought about! :D |

http://wiki.maemo.org/Reporting_reboot_issues 32wd_to is hard freeze in kernel sw_rst is 'voluntary' reboot triggered by dsme when something marked as critical dies in userspace (X server, some system daemon), maybe even bme can do this too in this case? In addition to information in that wiki it may be useful to install sysklogd and see /var/log/syslog after such random reboot. I'm not sure if reboot clears or moves this file, booting from different rootfs and mounting crashed one can help then. Re: Delayed Reboot when Booting to SD
This is where to get the Jott kernel. And also the new xserver, which I also installed. Everything seems stable now.

Re: Delayed Reboot when Booting to SD
Thanks for that link. I installed the kernel for this version (I, like you, had been using qwerty12's kernel), and after a couple hours of use, I don't see the problems I had been having. Hopefully it was just a case of having the wrong kernel...

As for me, I've been running the latest kernel with a 61KB patch (http://qwerty12.maemobox.org/kernel/uber.patch) and I've been ok... |
Re: Delayed Reboot when Booting to SD
Well, after now having my tablet running with no problems for a whole day... it appears the problem was just having the wrong kernel (for me, at least).
