Does anyone know of a free service like IPKall that has more than just Washington state phone numbers / area codes available?

I have no problem residing in California and using a Washington State phone number...it works just fine (especially with the settings outlined earlier in this thread- try it- it is free and you'll like it!

I'm sure it works just fine. What I would like is my local area code so that when I am traveling, my family can call my Nokia as a local call.

Having to set up port forwarding makes this thing almost useless. I'm able to connect to access points around town here but can't receive incoming calls.

But if the PC gizmo client doesn't need port forwarding, the N770 shouldn't either (I haven't use the PC version). Hope they fix this so we can enjoy gizmo everywhere.

Good find dattani. I can receive calls now while I'm at home. There is a huge lag though between picking up and answering the call and actually hearing the phone call. So long in fact that people might think it's a dropped call and hang up.

works at work

My incomming calls are working at work but not at home. I am running a Redhat AS 3.0 as my firewall at home on Comcast cable, at work its a small cisco router with a fractional t1. I will need to review my logs in real time at home, but apparently port forwarding is not necessary as its working for me from work.

Dialpad Touch Tones don't appear to work within a call. Can't switch off the incoming landline number voicemail which makes it no good for being in a call hunt.

Why don't you just use Gizmo's free incoming landline feature? It's a Nevada number.

Has anyone else had an experience with Gizmo that they'd like to share?

spycedtx 2006-07-21 17:49

does it work for you?

the problem with the free nevada line is that is has mandatory call screening. to 'answer' the call while it's being screened, you need to be able to press "1". This is fine on the pc client, but it doesn't work on the 770 (or, at least it hasn't worked for me).

i quickly ditched the area747 line and went with ipkall.

I can't login - fails with a login error :(

Gizmo works fine on a PC using the same login so it doesn't appear to be a firewall/ports issue, but on the 770 Gizmo gives a login error after "Starting User Agent".

Have sent the debug logs to email address mentioned in the Gizmo knowledge base but haven't received any reply.
