#maemo has a standing rule that bacon must be mentioned at least once a day, liqbase even includes an easter egg involving bacon (is that a bacon n egg then?)

I have always been puzzled by the bacon mentions, though (a) I have seen the bacon in liqbase, and (b) I remember the funny references to 'chunky bacon' in Why's Poignant Guide to Ruby. But I'm not sure that everyone has read that.

Heh me too. I never tried bacon before I went vegetarian (they don't sell it in my country) so I never will unless I get a vegetarian version.
It looks like a heart attack on a plate though. Kinda like our so called "bistec a lo pobre" ("poor" steak) that has fried potatoes, fried onions, a fried egg or two, and a steak.

Turns out that there may be some truth to the cigarette - bacon comparison. It causes lung disease / COPD and cancer...

They do, Elia. I have eaten it while traveling in Chile. It's called 'tocino' or 'panceta' (can you confirm?).

Here in Argentina we call it 'panceta'.

Heh, ok they do sell it, and they sell waffles and other stuff too. But they are not really common. People are far more used to eating ham at breakfast.
I am under the impression that its not the exact same thing, too. maybe prepared different? I wouldn't really know.

take bacon, cover it with saran wrap (cling wrap) and flatten it with the flat face of a meat tenderizer. wrap once around an thawed or fresh sea scallop, over lapping slightly for holding with toothpick or skewer. grill on both sides until scallop is opaque and white all the way through. enjoy.
