sd or sdhc memory card ?

hello. I just got my new nokia n800 and its great!
I would like to buy a 8 gb memory card but I am not sure
which is better, SD or SDHC ?
I saw on Ebay "Sandisk 8gb extreme sdhc" which suppose to be
very fast.

Is it really better or the same as regular sd card ?
thank you

Do not buy a memory card from eBay, as it will most likely be fake, giving you none of the speed boosts that Extreme III cards boast. A genuine one from a known retailer however will give you fantastic reliability and speed, the jump to my 4gb Extreme III Sandisk to boot my OS from was huge. However, if you're not using the card to boot your OS from, you may as well just get a slower card for cheaper, as the N8x0 can't read very fast from the slot anyway.

Also, all cards that are 4gb or above are labeled SDHC, HC simply means High Capacity. If a >4gb card doesn't say it, they simply forgot to add it. Class, however, represents the speed. A Class 4 card (minimum of 4mbps) is average, Class 2 (minimum of 2mbps) is pretty slow, and Class 6 (guess how many minimum mbps this is?) is pretty speedy.

thank you for the answer. if it's really improve the speed I will buy a memory card with class 6.
Is there another site except Ebay that I can find a genuine memory card which can be shipped internationally ?

If you might want to use your card in other devices, I suggest you avoid SDHC. Instead, get micro-SDHC with an adapter. Many micro-SDHC cards come with an adapter included. You can also use a micro-SDHC card in an N810 with a mini-SD adapter.

Handheld products from virtually every manufacturer except Sony have moved to micro-SDHC because of its form factor, so if you get micro-SDHC you are much more likely to be able to use it in other devices.

I know there are many here who prefer the SD form factor, but there have been hints from Nokia that future handheld internet tablet will use micro-SDHC.

Yes, it will be faster, and you will notice this if you use high I/O. You will need to use the kernel with the SDHC patch.

I recently bought a 8 GB microSDHC SanDisk + adapter for 25 EUR. It did not have this 'Extreme III' whatever that may be, and the speed was 15 MB/sec read, 10 MB/sec write. Haven't received it yet.

microSD is a bit more expensive than normal SD. If you need the size, go for normal SD. There are some good deals for 16 and 32 GB SD cards. If you need to use them for archive to read (e.g. movie or audio) then HC or not will be suffice.

thank you! can you tell me where did you buy your SanDisk ?
I saw many good deals on Ebay but I am afraid it's not genuine.
where is the best place to buy genuine card ?

I bought mine at a local computer shop. Just use a price compare shop on the Internet, fill in your preferred GB, and look at the options. Research abou the speed. It will take you a bit more time, but the end result leads to a good performance for a good price.

I got my 4gb Extreme III Sandisk from play.com, for £13.99 with a USB adapter and a little leather pouch to hold the card.

Just, fyi, there's no such thing as a "micro-SDHC". SDHC doesn't have anything to do with the card shape, it's only an extension to the SD specification that allows for higher-capacity storage.

SD cards come in "SD", "MiniSD" and "MicroSD" sizes, which can be SDHC or not, depending on capacity.
